Formerly Hexerei White Magic Witbier

A traditional witbier that we brew to style with a balance of soft white wheat and malts that offer a slight sweetness and distinct aroma flavors with the additions of coriander and sweet orange peel.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Dogfish Head tulip. Cool artwork.

L: Slightly cloudy golden pour with thick fluffy white head. Solid ring of lacing.

S: Light citrus and wheat. Grains and yeast.

T.F: Just like it smells. A little sweet to start... wheat and yeast. Light lemon citrus and fruit. Some coriander and spice at the finish. Light bodied... effervescent carbonation.

O: A solid Wit. Easy drinking and refreshing.

5 oz pour on tap. Pretty standard witbier, nothing to distinguish it from others. Light clove and banana to go with wheat aroma and flavor. Solid but not something I'd seek out again.

Hexerei has a thick, off-white head, a murky, gold-orange appearance, tight bubble streams, and no glass lacing. The aroma is of banana, spices, orange peel, and white wheat. The flavor is the same, with no bitterness. Mouthfeel is heavy, and Hexerei finishes mostly sweet.

Has an odd berry flavor throughout - not like natural berry flavor but like 5 hour energy stuff - yeast is way over the top but certainly spicy in the Belgian / black pepper sense. Pretty bad

A - Hazy pale gold color with creamy white lacing, light carbonation.

S - Slight breadiness, coriander, some mild seeds of paradise peppery aroma, and yeasty.

T - Some lemon peel, coriander, delicate pepper spice, yeasty, and finishes with a light lingering yeasty coriander finish.

M - Medium body.

O - An easy drinker that would pair well with warm weather and grilling!

It pours dark burnt orange with a small head. A very spicy nose. Notes with apricot, banana and clove. I don't get any of the orange or coriander. While this is a witbier but it drinks a lot like a hefeweizen due to the yeast esters. In many ways this is a hybrid of these two styles.

As I remarked in the New Beer Sunday (Week 633) thread, today is New Odds & Sods Sunday here at Chez Woody. I am using The Who's 1974 album as the soundtrack & I am simply winnowing down some unrelated oddballs as a part of the Eradication of the Bottle Backlog here at Chez Woody. No rhyme, no reason, just bottles.

I deviated from my norm on this one. I began by vigorously agitating the beer in the bottle, giving it a little time to settle & then once I Pop!ped the cap, I gave it a really heavy-handed aggro pour. This raised two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, bone-white head with great retention that left sticky lacing in its wake as it slowly fell. Color was a murky Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9). Nose had a peppery spiciness to it. Mmmm. Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, partially due to its inherent effervescence. The taste was spicy, but pleasant. I had said pepper on the nose, but the actual taste was more subtle and nuanced than simple pepper. It was reminiscent of patchouli, but not as strong as when it is applied undiluted. I like the smell of patchouli, but when used as cologne or perfume, it is too much. This was a lot like Baby Bear's Wit - just right. I will cop to some sneezing, which may be indicative of Spring allergies or a mild allergic reaction to the yeast in this beer. Finish was dry, lightly spicy & quite refreshing. This was great on a relatively warm day in early Spring.

Undated 12 oz. bottle poured into Teku glass.

L: 1F+ head with poor retention, spotty lacing, leaves only thin ring. Beer is a hazy light straw gold.

S: Basics of witbier = flaked wheat, light orange and lemon peel, coriander, some ale yeast.

T: Follows nose, citrus up front, wheat in middle, coriander and other spices come in on finish.

F: Light bodied, medium carbonation. Crisp and refreshing. Reasonably decent construction and balance.

O: Decent witbier you can easily and enjoyably drink all day.
