Purchased from the brewery recently, coming in a 330ml slim brown bottle, bottle-conditioned; bottled on 17/10/2013, BB 17/01/2014, served lightly-chilled in Hapkin’s short-stemmed tulip-shaped sniffer.

A: pours a dark yellow-ish straw colour with even hazy, coming with a thin layer of off-white foamy head and healthy feed of carbonation.
S: cane-sugary malts, savoury-sour apples & lemons, very light funkiness, and a breezy note almost like Saaz hops (although Amarillo is said to be used here) come upfront; given a good swirl, peaches, ripe oranges, light spices and pear-ish esters emerge from underneath, rendering a very pleasant, multi-layered aroma structure.
T: rather effervescent upfront, not in a harsh way though, the taste is immediately zesty&zingy citric with a dry-ish palate following suit, leaving notes of “sweaty” funks, oxidised apples, grassiness, and a chewy and spicy finish packing more hop bitterness than one’s more typical funky farmhouse ales. The hop performance outweighs the impact from farmhouse yeasts overall, but in the long finish the sourness retains the intensity quite well, albeit not pronounced by any standard.
M&O: very refreshing as the fine fizziness remains throughout the drink, medium-bodied with very little alc. shown, while the flavour profile is nicely demonstrated which invariably packs a bigger hop presence due to the hop variety used and perhaps how it is rendered during the brewing and maturation processes. All in all, a good solid Saison that is quaffable and nicely different from the more traditional examples.
