Purchased from the brewery recently, coming in a 330ml slim brown bottle, bottle-conditioned; bottled on 01/10/2013, BB 01/01/2014, served lightly-chilled in a straight imperial pint glass.

A: pours a murky, light orangey colour coming with a thin off-white frothy head and rather healthy but mild carbonation.
S: sweet citric fruitiness and decent quality pale malts come hand in hand; given a good swirl, an almost flowery&musky grape aroma, unripe lychee-fruits and dried citrus peels come to the fore, along with a pleasant touch of pear-ish acidity and notes of honey.
T: lightly effervescent, spritzy even, due to very fine carbonation on the entry, the foretaste is initially lightly acidic-sweet citric-zest-ish & pear-ish, against a thin-bodied maltiness, soon ensued by a wave of (almost earthy) hop bitterness with faint savoury spiciness and faint malty aroma lingering in the background. Lightly chewy in the finish and generally quite refreshing throughout the drink.
M&O: the mouthfeel remains refreshing but not fizzy, against a generally thin body of flavours settling on an overall light malt composition and a moderate application of aromatic hops (i.e. the flavour extraction is kept at a rather low level); also the alc. content hides very well indeed. All in all, this is an unbalanced but pleasantly hoppy & bitter pale ale turning to be interestingly drinkable. If you ask me, this is more like a modern “British Blonde Ale” utilising American hop varieties than in the fashion of an “American Pale Ale”, as the malt bill is tuned so light and thin, an observation which might be taken as somewhat “not-true-to-style” by the puritan beer-style guardians…?
