Pours a smaller but decent looking 1/2 finger fizzy head that at least fades slowly, decent lacing, over mostly clear slight hazed honey orange slight amber hue.

Nose brings some nice hops, fresh smelling with a faint citrus fruit, fairly grassy and a bit piney, a little floral, nice bright hops overall, with a faint caramel like sweet malty aroma behind that.

Taste starts with a hop malt balance. Malts bring a bit of a sweet caramel flavor and a little toasty malt. Then hops start blended well, with a little grassy slightly spicy and faint pine. Then the hops ramp the more I leave it in my mouth, a big grassy slightly earthy like hop, very strong grassy hop flavor almost as if there is dried grass right in it, and a little pine and fairly spicy. Finish is drier with a little malt flavor, but mostly the grassy slightly spicy hops dominate with an almost astringent taste, very bitter on the finish.

Mouth is med bodied, nice carb.

Overall an interesting IPA, starts with a nice malt hop balance, good profile in both cases, then sudden ramp of hops that gets very grassy and spicy and very bitter. Fairly tasty.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into an imperial pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep amber color, with a large foamy off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick but spotty lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains citrus, caramelized malts and earthy hops.

T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of caramel and citrus. Then a hearty malt character comes in. The hops presence is earthy and strong but not over-powering and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly hoppy and slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, decent kick, good representation of style, there are better choices in the style but this is still a solid beer to drink for a long time.

Pours medium clear amber with a 1/4 inch of white foam. Lace rings with each sip and the head reduces to a respectable skim.

Some light floral scents and some toasted malt in the nose. A slight whiff of caramel.

Malt profile is very similar to the brewer's 1775 release. Bitter brown bread crust, some earthy notes. Not a drop of sweetness in this beer. Hops have no fruit or citric/pine profile. Pure tongue-buckling bitterness. Aspirin bitter. Full on bitter as the beer clears your palate and long and bitter/dry on the palate at the end. Wow is this unforgiving. While I get the purity of the flavor, this one is so one-dimensionally bitter that I really don't want more than one bottle.

Medium bodied. It works. Some bubbles rising and they help.

Solid brew, a bit unbalanced. This may be better with food than on its own. I like what they are doing with their beer, and encourage people to try this for a different type of American IPA. Again, beer for sipping, not swilling.
