A; opaque; very dark brown - almost black in color; 1 finger medium brown head that receded to a wispy cap; very little lacing;
S: deeply roasted grain and bittersweet chocolate; a little dark fruit as well;
T: deeply roasted grain and bittersweet chocolate for a moment, then dark fruit comes in and increases through the finish; by the end, it's all dark fruit; mild to moderate bitterness at the end;
M: medium to full bodied; moderate carbonation; dry finish;
O: there's something about the flavor that i don't like;

Poured at room temp from an undated, 12oz bottle to a diagonally cut tumbler.
Dark black body with a hint of brown at the edges if you hold the glass to the light. Lacing is nice, but the tan head fizzles before your eyes within half a minute of the pour. It actually effervesces during this period, like a soda or antacid.
Aroma is of molasses, booze, roasted malt and the results of Maillard reactions.
Taste is musty but sweet and sticky. This one goes to 11 (ABV) and you can sense it well enough.
That effervescence appears again with each sip, but in a way its welcome due to the stickiness. On the other hand it makes it so you can only really taste the beer after the fuzz fades. Maybe if my sample came from the Fridge this would not be so prominent, but neither would the flavors.
Overall, points off for the head, smell is great, bubbliness may be my fault (temp) --- Decent, would not refuse one in the future.

Very good RIS. Simple, not too sweet, not too bitter. ABV very well hidden. A bit thin, but not in a bad way. Worth having.

Poured from a 12oz bottle that is over 2 years-old into a tulip glass.
A: The beer is a deep dark brown color with a thin off-white head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.
S: The aroma contains chocolate, roasted malts, licorice and molasses.
T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of chocolate, molasses and licorice. Then a hearty roasted malt character comes in. The hops presence is very mild as expected but brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.
M: Crisp and very smooth, medium-to-heavy body, light-to-medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.
O: Tasty, goes down dangerously easy, slightly filling, strong but well-disguised kick, very good representation of style, this is a nice big stout to drink for a long time.
