On tap at the Barrel Republic.

Appearance: Opaque black-brown with a durable tan head that leaves patterned, sticky lacing.

Aroma: Dark roasted malts with coffee and dark chocolate. Some complexity.

Flavor: Moderately rich. A bit too sweet but otherwise quite good, and some bitterness (and faint smoke) kick in for the aftertaste.

Feel: Medium+ body with good light carbonation.

O: True to style, albeit with a touch of smoke, and worth trying.

22oz brought back from San Diego.

A- Poured from the bomber to a snifter with a pitch black body. Light tan head builds to about a finger high and has decent retention and a creamy texture. Thick, frothy ring leaves some nice clouds of lace at the top of the glass.

S- Impressive blast of dark roast malts for a 5.3% brew, stacks up with the higher ABV stouts as far as richness of dark grains. Notes of chocolate, coffee beans and toasted cracked cereal grains. Some yeast hints.

T- Follows an inviting aroma with a roast malt decadence on par with other great Milk Stouts I have tried. The yeast opens up a bit more here with some fruity, apple and bread hints but the dark grains dominate. Coffee, chocolate, toasted nuts, cracked grain mash and some sweetness comes to mind.

MF- Silky support from the use of lactose in the brew to a nice creamy thick body. Moderately high carbonation. Drinks bigger than 5.3% in a good way. Finishes with some roasty bitterness lingering.

Random grab in San Diego bottle shop that payed off. I enjoy a stout that drinks easily but also brings a ton of roast malt flavors to the table. Not quite Left Hand Milk Stout good but worth trying for any fan of stouts.

a: its a rich, silky black color with a 1 finger tan head that fades pretty quick and looks like something on top like a coca cola

s: tons of toasted malts, a nice sweet milky creaminess. milk chocolate powder, and some nice woody notes

t: right away i'm thinking this tastes like a cola. there is a definite milky sweetness in here, as well as like a sweet vanilla too. malts play their role in in providing the caramel-syrup flavor. it an extremely smooth tasting beer, and fizzy - like a cola

m: its a light mouthfeel, that i might expect from a porter. but the carbonation is such that it (as mentioned) is almost fizzy in the mouth. like soda. very drinkable due to the lightness of the mouthfeel

o: its very sweet and fizzy - not something i was necessarily expecting. its sweet like a milk stout. i'd like a little more of the roasted notes. the sweetness and carbonation do make it feel like a cola to me, not decided if i'm down with that yet

Remarkably good brew that blurs the styles in the best possible way. All the dark flavor with just enough sweetness to mellow it out. Pleasant spritzy and velvety mouthfeel.

Attractive beige foam on the dark, dark brown beer with nice lacing in the Crooked Line tulip. Aromas of iced coffee and some cocoa. Rich grainy taste with some hints of charred malt and burnt sugar. Some sweetness but not in the usual realm of sugary Milk stouts. Modest bitter aftertaste with the dark roasted malt lingering.

Great balance and highly drinkable. This may be the brew that keeps this brewery on the map. From the 22 oz bottle bought at Barons Market on West Point Loma.

This is a very easy semi sweet stout. Head is a kahaki color 3/4" thick. Goes down very easy. Nice combination of choclate, toffee and coffee. You will smell the sweetness upon presentation. You'll have consumed the entire glass before you know it.

Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy patches of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, toasted oat, and cocoa aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa and coffee flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is quite tasty and much better than the peanut butter version in my opinion.

Appearance: Black with a brown head, leaving moderate lacing.

Smell: Roasted and caramel malt.

Taste: Sweet malt up front, fading into roasted malt and coffee. Coffee flavors are strong without being overpowering. Mild bitterness towards the end.

Mouthfeel: Creamy and smooth. Despite the thickness, it leaves no residual feel.

Overall: Very flavorful stout with a great feel. It is good to have a thick stout without the requirement of 10% ABV. If have tried their Peanut Butter Milk Stout, imagine replacing the nut flavor with coffee.

Pours thick and solid,
Laid in a chalice glass with a thick cocoa head, which dissipated quickly but stubbornly held on to glass for the duration of enjoyment. Very dark, muddy stout.

Delightful smell, vanilla-chocolate milkshake. Unmistakable roasted malt on the nose is very pleasant. Nothing else matters, simple and straightforward on the nose.

Rich toasted chocolate right away on the tongue, a little sharp and slightly burnt on the edges. Milky lingering taste is unusual, I personally like this a lot but it may not be for everyone at this point the lasted aftertaste has the slightest hint of cola. Strong urge to gulp this.... Phenomenal

Thick and luscious mouthfeel, great after meal beer or last beer of the day

This is my first time drinking from bottle, have also enjoyed on tap.

Hell of a bargain at the price, will buy again and again. Will insist friends try it when they visit ;)

Pours very dark brown with a nice finger high khaki head. Retention is brief leaving rings of suds on the glass.

Blackened malts, chewy cereal grains, and some coffee. A very roasty aroma for a milk stout. Notes of lacto and some dampened honey bread.

Roasted malt is husky and even a bit ashy before a hint of bready sweetness comes in to balance. I get some nuttiness, dried fruit and herbal hop bitterness adding some complexity but largely the dark malt dominates the palate. Finish is also somewhat burnt with a lingering lactic acidity.

Body has some supportive heft and the carbonation is smooth. No detectable alcohol and while I found the aftertaste a bit unpleasant this one goes down easy.

I was expecting a sweeter stout than this one but it is well balanced and for those that enjoy roasted malt this stout definitely highlights it.

Enjoyable, easy drinking stout. Murky black, with a big brown foamy head on it that lingered. Looked really good for such a low ABV stout.

Smell is roasted malts and lots of coffee.

First sip tasted really sweet to me, almost put me off a little. After a little more the sweetness subsided and the bitter hops and roasted malt flavors appeared for good balance. Harmonious.

A little clumpy on the mouthfeel. I'm not sure what the archetype of the style is, it's closer in body to an imperial or double stout than many of the Guinness-like Irish stouts I've had.

awesome stout-like look, thin topping of creamy head.
amateurish kind of aroma, but decent. smells of dark malts.
tastes like milkshake. lots of vanilla. smooth. creamy. very easy to drink and without the additives the peanut butter has. this is straight up milk stout and very decent. better than the peanut butter in my opinion. not sure I like lactose in my beer, but this still tastes decent....

At first I was getting a slight woody smell or perhaps a smokiness. As it warmed this went away. The smell overall is pretty nice but the flavor is better. Dark cacao with a slight roastiness. The chocolate flavor was more of a bitter than sweet. The mouthfeel and flavor were full considering the ABV. Overall a pretty good milk stout.
