A 330ml bottle with a BB of May 2014. Picked up a little while back from Trembling Madness in York. The label claims that this has 20 IBUs.

Poured into a tulip pint glass. Bottle conditioned. A very hazy orange-amber hue with ultra-fine sediment and low carbonation. Yields a smallish head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before subsiding to a patchy surface layer. Aroma of grainy malt with hints of grass, hay, mild noble hops, faint spice, earthy yeast and a touch of stewed leaves. Slightly sweet, along with a very subtle sour twinge. A whiff of solventy booze in the background.

Tastes of rich grainy malt with a dry finish. Notes of grain, grass/hay, peppery noble hops, faint spice, earthy yeast, husks and mild stewed hops. Slightly sweet, with more than a hint of solventy alcohol in the background. A delicate leafy bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth and lightly tingly, with good body but unenthusiastic carbonation. Weakly astringent, followed by an aftertaste of grainy malt, earthy yeast and faint grassy hops.

A decent stab at the style, though marred by subtle flaws. Looks pretty lacklustre, with an excess of haze and insufficient carbonation. The head also vanishes rather swiftly. The aroma and flavour are better; grainy and lightly hopped with noble varieties. A tad heavy on the booze. Body is OK but enhanced carbonation would improve the texture. Not terrible but could use some work - perhaps extended lagering would do the trick. Worth trying but no need to seek it out.
