I tend to steer clear of "red" beers for their overall lack of character. This beer, although not to style, has an amazingly complex malt character and is my favorite beer at Big Dog's. It pours a deep red in color, has a few millimeters of persistent head which laces down the glass as you polish it off. The flavor and mouthfeel are both unbelievably smooth. A nice, rich, malty beer with enough hop character to keep it in balance. This is a MUST HAVE if you stop at Big Dog's.

I had this on tap at the draft house in Las Vegas, NV. It poured a deep rosy-red golden color, and with a good bit of lacing. It smelled quite flowery - a rose smell to go with the color. The taste was ok - mainly of hops, but the aftertaste was a bit strange...maybe yeast, but kind of undefinable.

Served From: Bomber
Bottled on Date: 8/14/12

Appearance: Dark brown with two fingers of an off white head with good retention.

Smell: Slightly toasted malt.

Taste: Malty with a hint of bitterness at the finish. Nutty notes throughout. Tastes “brown”.

Mouthfeel: smooth mouthfeel, appropriate amount of carbonation.

Overall: Tastes like I would expect an English style brown ale to taste. Not always my favorite style, but I like this one better than others I've had because it is well balanced. First time trying this brewery, definitely excited to try more of their offerings.

this poured a deep clear red/amber with a medium/small white head. a much stronger aroma of malt than expected with some fruity notes as well as some caramel (they use all caramel malts) and a touch of hops. in the mouth it was medium bodied, slightly leaning on the heavier side and satisfying. taste wise it was maltier than expected. sweet and flavorful with a hop presence that didnt quite balance out the malt charater. a touch fruity and ending with a light lasting sweetness. this was a solid and enjoyable red, different than wat im used to focusing more on the malt than the hops. damn good.

Served in a pint glass at the Draft House.

A - Translucent reddish brown hue with a 2 finger head. Retention was decent for a Red, lacing was mostly nonexistent, although that may be attributed to the recently washed glass.

S - Sweet smell of caramel and toffee, and something akin to fresh toast.

T - Rich, malty presence, but not very complex. Mildly sweet with a clean finish.

M - Clean, crisp, slightly watery. Sharp carbonation.

D - Surprisingly drinkable. It won't knock you out of your socks, but it is a great brew to have on hand during a good conversation.

Poured on-tap at the Ale House into a pint glass. The beer has a great coloring of vibrant auburn-reds, with a decent foamy head. Unfortunately, it is downhill from the appearance. The flavor of the beer is bland, with sour and malt undertones. The beer has a lingering film on finish, with a slightly sweet aftertaste. Not a beer I would order again.

Clear bronze amber color with a thin spotty head. Some light lacing developed. The aroma is of mild malt. The flavor is a clean caramel malt with a touch of hops and fruitiness.

The mouthfeel was smooth at the start and finish. Medium bodied. Some caramel lingered on the tongue after swallowing. All around decent and nicely drinkable red ale.

Pours a clear, dark brown color. 1/4 inch head of an off-white color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of sweet malt, slight hop, hint of roasted malt, and dry hops. Fits the style of an English Brown Ale. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with a low carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, hint of roasted malt, slight dry hop, and hint of hops. Overall, good appearance and feel, simple otherwise, nothing outstanding.

Got this one from my buddy Dave from LV doing some canyons this weekend.

Pours a nice deep amber/copper color, nice little off-white foamy head, with some minimal sticky lacing left behind. The nose is malty, with lots of caramel. The taste follows the nose, malty/caramel. Medium body. Drinkable, this is a pretty tasty amber ale.
