Poured from a bomber, bottled just yesterday, and poured into my Deschutes tulip...

A - Pours a crystal clear golden yellow color, with a huge 2 1/2 finger off-white head. I can see right thru this. The head slowly falls, leaving nice fluffy peaks and loads of lacing.

S - Very dank hop-forward aroma. Combination of tropical fruits like papaya, mango, and pineapple, and musky earthyness. I also get hints of carmel malts. Nice balance.

T/M - Bursting with citrus hops on the front. Grapefruit and lemon on the initial taste. A slight alcohol note that transfers to a tongue coating hop resin. Hop dominant, just like a DIPA should be. Medium mouthfeel, good carbonation.

O - I think this is one of Las Vegas' best kept secrets. This DIPA is everything I look for, Not watery, but not too heavy. Hop forward, and a great aftertaste. I've also had this on tap, and it's amazing. If you're in Vegas, and you see this on tap, don't pass up this seasonal release.

pours a murky golden with a thick thick head boy. smells tart, floral...bitter. taste wise? oh snaps. big grapefruit like hops up front with more in the back. yea theres some malt sweetness but its is overruled by the hop. its has bit of a grassy like, "weedy" taste. finishes on a dry note and is actually a bit strange right off the bat, but the more you indulge the more you grow to like it, even love it. a small hit of alcohol reminds you its an imperial, but it is never offensive. deadly in its drinkability, this is good shwag.

Poured a hazy godld orange and amber color with big, foamy white head that left shards of lace all over the glass.
Aroma of a citurs grove with resiny hemp.
Flavors were a bit muted but a nice interplay of juicy caramelly malts intertwined with some citrus and hop oil notes.
Mouthfeel had just a hint of thinness and metallic notes to it. (slight oxidation maybe) Anyway not unpleasant just not quite full on kick ass DIPA material.
Drinkability was pretty high, potent yet really thirst quenching.
This place has promise.

sampled on tap at the brewery & draft house june 8th/07.

pours very hazy orangey amber with a small incredibly dense white head. the head drops fairly fast and leaves lots of spotty lace down the glass.

aroma is nice. bit of alcohol. big blast of pine and orange hops. bit of apricot too. light caramel sweetness. bread and biscuit hops.

taste is great. medium-high bitterness level. big orange and pine blast, with some light apricot and grapefruit. bit of resin. nice light sweetness in the orange and caramel. big bready malt. bit of biscuit. light alcohol.

mouthfeel is good. medium-low well integrated carbonation level. nice big body.

drinkability is great. the alcohol is hidden very well under the big malt and hops. bitterness isn't too high either. well balanced and very enjoyable. definitely worth the drive from the strip.

I enjoyed this one on tap.

Poured a medium amber color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of floral hops, citrus -orange peels-, and light caramel. Tastes of citrus -the same citrus peels- and lighter maltiness. Medium bitter with a lighter sweetness.

Very enjoyable dipa. Color was pretty good and smell was not over the top but seemed to lack something. Taste was good...not to boozy and good hops blend with citrus. Feel was good and overall a good enjoyable dipa.certainly would get this again and would like to try more from this brewery.

On tap at the Draft House, served in a standard pint glass.

A - Nice amber coloration, good 2 finger head, mild retention, slight lacing.

S - Pine hits the nose first, and oh yeah, it smells pretty hoppy. Makes my mouth water.

T - Yeah, the pine flavor is back, but it has a nice citrus backing. A little lopsided, and not quite as hoppy as I was expecting, but still quite good.

M - Crisp, light to medium body, mild carbonation. Finish is dry and bitter as expected.

D - Very good rendition of a double IPA. Not abrasive or abusive to the senses, nice flavor, pleasing going down. Much much better than their regular IPA. I'd recommend this one in a heartbeat.

Hazy orange in color with a 1/2" head. Lacing through the drink was as thick as possible, almost like someone painted my glass. Aroma was of huge floral hops, grapefruit, and malt. The flavor was well balanced as thick malt, strong bitterness, grapefruit, and alcohol were up front, but some softer tones of vanilla and honey were detectable.

Medium to heavy in body, with a smooth and mildly syrupy mouthfeel. Bitterness and citrus tones ride the tongue long after swallowing. This is a very enjoyable and drinkable double IPA.

Thanks to schmittymack for bringing a growler of this one back from Vegas ("another tick") Dark golden color, with a surprisingly huge amount of white foam (considering this growler was filled 4 days ago--I thought it might be flat, at this point). Fairly hoppy, medium to full bodied, crisp and carbonated, Fairly sweet, malty and good. Thought I might have to find someone to share this growler with, but I think I might just finish it myself (tomorrow morning's gonna suck).

Presentation: Sampled on draft at Big Dog’s Brewing Co./Draft House during a recent visit with UncleJimbo. After a 5 Set Sampler of the Dirty Dog IPA, Black Lab Stout, Doppel Weizenbock, Moon Dog Barleywine and the Chocolate Lab Porter – after a sample of what Jimbo had been supping, I too decided to take a full pint of the War Dog Double IPA.

Appearance: UncleJimbo’s first brew had a lovely hazed pure-orange body, but my pint appeared to have a lighter body when served later which exhibited more of a dark-golden hue. Thin but virulent head that was off-white but stayed the distance. Low conditioning, syrupy almost, the bubbles that released from solution were slow to rise to the surface. Looked good though.

Nose: Dark juicy hoppy aroma, fresh - yet aged character. Lots of bitterness with some grapefruit and oranges prevalent throughout.

Taste: As with the nose much more intense. Juicy feel, in fact juicy is the one word that best describes this DIPA. Lovely body, almost perfect steel framework structure from the malt bill with a facing of thick oily hops that have a luscious grapefruit vivacity and deep strong orange aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Juicy rich hoppy mouth that exhibited a string malty backbone. Nicely balanced and thick to the feel, a little oily at times, tingling hoppy aftertaste.

Drinkability: Even at 8.6% this one was dangerously drinkable and was deceptively easy to slurp down, even after an earlier 5-Sampler of their stronger brews.

Overall: UncleJimbo dared to mention that this reminded him of Frank DIPA….I have to say that I agreed wholeheartedly.
Highly Recommended.

On tap at Big Dog Draft House. Menu listed the beer @ 8.8% abv

A- golden with a one finger. Impressive lacing on the whole glass, but the color seemed to be missing something

S- I didn't get much smell. A SLIGHT piney astringency

T- big pine hops. A little cereal maltiness, but very little. A slight alcohol burn at the end as well

M- quite thick and left a lot of bitterness

D- nice overall

Pours a hazy, orangey gold with a slight head. Nose is thick with malt and resin, some light grapefruit. Flavor is very full bodied, very malty with accompanying bitterness and resin. Ciitrus tones are well into the background as is the sweetness. This is one that the malts win, but none the less very tasty. Thanks to BlindPig for the opportunity to try this one.
