The India Red Ale, or IRA, brings together the alluring red hue and malty body of a red ale with all the intense citrus, grapefruit, and piney hoppiness you’d expect from an American IPA. This beer features first-wort hopping to achieve a smooth bitterness.

Poured from a bottle into a tulip.
Pours a cloudy--almost murky--reddish brown with a good head and moderate lacing.
The aromas are an interesting blend of toasted caramel malts, grapefruit, and pine, but they seem to clash.
The brew delivers robust flavors, but like the aromas, they don't necessarily mesh very well. Caramel malts hit the tip of the tongue but are quickly met and balanced by bitter grapefruit. The mid-palate arrives with grainier crackery malt and fruity yeast. Pine, herbal, and vegetal notes arrive with some booze at the finish. Each of these notes are fine. They just all seem to be jockeying for top billing instead of blending.
The brew has solid carbonation that helps balance a just-beyond medium brew.
This is definitely an original brew. It melds toasty malts with a melange of hop flavors. If the flavors complimented each other just a bit more, this would be outstanding. As-is, a solid brew.

I got a bottle of this from my good friend and old neighbor from Oswego. It poured a hazy amber with thin white head that is leaving some lace. The scent had faint caramel malt and hints of bitter fruit. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with sweet malt base with bitter citrus highlights. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall its a good beer.

Thanks Vanessa. This was poured into a becher pint glass. The appearance was a burnt toasty red color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that fell off at a decent pace. The aroma had a nice blend of caramel/toffee malts to piney/resinous hops. Slight spruce-like wood with a little bit of citrusy zest then some leather and dried leaf. The flavor rounded the previously mentioned aromas together gently, somewhat sweet with an embracing bitterness striding in. Zesty sort of popping hops to caramel malt base in the aftertaste rolling into the finish. The feel was about medium bodied with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation and ABV felt appropriate. Bitter harshness was there but not distracting as there’s some acceptable creaminess softening along my tongue. Overall, is this what we call a Nebraska styled IPA? I’m not sure, but this was good and I’d have again.

Murky, dark orange body topped with a dense, sticky, creamy head. The aroma exudes bready, malty qualities with spicy and citrus-like hop qualities. Big malt sweetness to the flavor, accentuated with fruity esters and a nipping hop bitterness. Heavy body; rich with residual sugars; mostly sweet finish.
This beer delivers the sugary sweetness of red ales with notes of pine and oranges. The hops provide some nice counterpoint to all the sweetness, offering some tingling bite and general bitterness to things.

Poured out a deep, auburn color with a tan, foamy head. There were some yeasty floaties in the beer. It smelled of pine, grapefruit and roasted caramel malt. Nice bitterness with a strong toasted flavor.

Amber in color with a heavy amount of fine sediment. Clearly this was meant for me to keep the last of it in the bottle. There's a half inch of tightly packed beige head. Light lacing. I smell nutty malt and lightly piney to citrus hops. The taste is nutty to bready malt with just a faint hint of pine in the back of the palate. The mouth is a bit dense due to the sediment and it is otherwise dry.
