Tasted this beer by half-pint at my Wetherspoon local on 20/05/05. A really surprising find!!
Appearance: it pours a dark amber colour, with an extremely foamy, pale-brownish beerhead which is so lasting and leaving pretty white lace along the way...
Smell: refreshingly aromatic hops and low-profile nutty malts approach me--understated but quite balanced on nose.
Taste & Aftertaste: mouthful of dark malts--tofee, walnuts, lightly-sweetened dark chocolate...comes with a little hint of hops (quite contrary to the nose?!); the finish sees more "chewable" hayish hops in action and a vertical structure of malts sustains for quite a while.
Mouthfeel & Drinkability: quite light in body and strength for this medium-flavoured ale; it's very refreshing and extremely quaffable to me, although I would always prefer a beer with rounder palate and fuller taste. A nice and fresh beer I'm very lucky to bump into though!!
