Nice cloudy straw-golden colored pour with white head. Nose has bright fresh fruits with a whiff of See's hard candies. On the palate the fruit is there as well, but also a pleasant malty component that isn't overly sweet. Rather light bodied but smooth texture of course, with nice carbonation. Good drinkability.

500ml bottle poured into a Duvel tulip.

Pours a nice golden yellow with a small white head with some nice lacing. Nose is malty, dry, yeasty and a bit fruity.

Taste is sharp, got that signature German lager flavor that's very crisp and refreshing. It's got a nice light noble hop bite but there's also some creamy maltiness to it. It's super drinkable, especially when it's 90 degrees out.

3.53/5  rDev -2.2%
look: 3 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.5

Poured from 500mL bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: body is slightly hazy with a medium-light golden hue. Head is a thick finger of pillowy white foam. This looks OK, overall, but is way lighter than I think of an alt as being.

Smell: aroma is slightly fruity; slightly biscuity. Malt is quite sweet and there's not much here in the way of hops. Not bad, but again, not super altbier-ey.

Taste: quite fruity: pear and apple, mostly. The beer is sweet and bitterness isn't strong enough for good balance (though there is some bitterness at the end). Earthy hops are present, and they are nice, but overall this beer is kind of sticky and I feel like the brewers could have put a bit more care into it. That said, it's not *too* bad.

Mouthfeel: at last, something to celebrate. Medium body (concomitant with all that residual sweetness, no doubt) mixes with a decent carbonation to yield a rich, creamy texture. Like it.

Drinkability: to me this beer is a little too sweet, not really to style, imbalanced and generally flawed. It is pretty refreshing, though, and I dig the texture quite a lot. Split the difference.

look: 3.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.5

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 1 pint 0.9oz bottle into a tall stange glass.

Appearance: The body has a slightly hazy golden body which seems a bit light for the style. There is some visible carbonation that helps support it tall white head. The hangs on very well and makes good splotchy lace patters on the glass.

Smell: Its aroma is mostly malty and nutty with some classic German spicy floral hops mixed in with just the slightest touch of mineral.

Taste/Palate: I get a firm medium bodied beer with loads of bready and nutty maltiness with just a touch of dry earthy yeast. This is balanced by classic German hops that add some spicy and floral flavor notes as well as some moderate bitterness and dryness. Its finish is bready and dry with hints of the hops.

Notes: To some this beer up quickly I would call it simply liquid bread and a tasty one at that.

Transcribed from undated notes.

The pour initially netted a massive two fingers' worth of rocky, bone-white head that settled into a marshmallow Fluf-like consistency. Color was a beautiful straw-yellow with NE-quality clarity. Nose was light, slightly sweet, but quite tempting. Mouthfeel was medium with a very dry quality on the tongue. Finish was totally, bone-dry. Man, this would be fantastic in the summer.

a beer with slightly more than a golden look. sort of mild white head. a nose of apple and a hint of sourness. very very discreet. palate of hay and apple doughiness but also a very mild sour finish. no smokey qualities though. and the malt is a bit lean. the carbonation is good on the tongue. and a good late summer early autumn feel.

My first Alt bier. Very nice.

It's yellow with a white head that dies down fairly quickly.
Aroma is mostly malt.
First taste is surprisingly clean. The flavor hits the tongue and disappears almost immediately. Kind of sour, but in a good way.
Nice carbonation and mouthfeel.
Very drinkable.

pours a surprisingly light color, peachy gold and quite hazy. Head is big and frothy, quite inviting overall, though so far it is far from what I'd expect from the style.
Aroma follows suit. There is big fruitiness here. Orchard fruits, some citrus, suggestion of doughy malt before hops and more likely yeast takes over. If blindfolded I'd have said this was more like something using the Fullers yeast strain than an alt.
Flavor continues the fruitiness. There is a honey-ish sweetness like a fresh peach to the flavor with moderate tartness in the finish. Moderate bitterness though it doesn't really linger. It's not particularly clean with a mildly sticky sweet fruit flavor coating the palate, again at odds with what I'd expect. Not particularly caramel-y either.
Carbonation is medium low, body medium, drinkability high after I quit trying to figure it out and just enjoyed it.

As a general beverage this falls somewhere between good and excellent. As an alt, I can't see how I'd even rate it as average. I shall have to do more "research" on this beer!

Germany's oldest organic brewery has quite the extensive selection in the Organic Market. Pours out an "untypical" Altbier color of light honeyed amber. Light carbonation makes a nice light fluffy head. Looks a bit like a Keller bier.
On the nose--tart lemon, musty grains, touch of orange, lightly sweet-apple,pear, grape.the sweetness is nicely cut by the blast of mineral, grain, and fresh grass.
Flavor is reminiscent of a Berliner Weisse. Lemon, acidic, light, nicely carbonated, and just the right amount of creaminess to balance. this finish is long and lingering with pepper, honey and lemon.
nice, light tart and refreshing. Maybe not a typical Altbier but tasty nonetheless. I'll be living near Munster soon, so looks like I'll have lots more in my future Cheers

500 mL bottle,

A: Pours a cloudy yellow with a light white head, no real lace, looks like a hefeweizen.

S: Classic German malt smell, bock like a 180 from what I was expected due to the colour. Smells like Alt. Nice minerality.

T: Pilsner malt, with a nice tartness bringing notes of lemon and hard water. Nice flavour, unique for the style.

M: Crisp mouthfeel with carbonation that just dances on the palate makes this beer very refreshing, in this aspect it reminds me a bit of Berliner Weisse.

D: Pinkus has brought a smorgasboard of German beer styles together and created a fantastic ale. This would make a great beer for the summertime.

A: Golden/straw color. A bit cloudy. White head dissipates to a thin line of white foam with pretty good lace.

S: Carmel sweetness comes through on top. A little doughy maltiness. Just a wee bit of grassy hop character.

T: Sweetness and maltiness, honey character. I also get a sort of sourness, a fruity acidity that is a little off putting at first, but then begins to lend itself to a nice crisp finish. The hop character is restrained, but in nice balance with the sweetness.

M: Carbonation is a little too thin for me. Other than that it has a nice clean finish and a lingering sweetness. The taste left on the tongue after a glass of the stuff is almost as if you just finished off some cider.

D: Smooth and crisp. The finish is really the best part of this beer. You could drink a few of these, especially on a hot day.

Poured from a 16.9oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a light gold color, with a short white head that fades slowly and leaves a spotty lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is of light caramelized malts, honey and a little bit of hops.

T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of honey and caramel. Then there is some breadiness from a hearty but not too heavy malt character. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings some balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean.

D: A little tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, not the best representation of style, this is a decent beer that it worth drinking for a while but there are others in the style that I would pick first.

T: Very malty again, not too surprising. Some sweetness to it. Apple juice? Nice crisp finish

M: Medium body. Pretty light carbonation.

D: Awesome drinkability. Very refreshing.

I can't remember ever having an alt beer before let alone an organic ale. I was pretty impressed.

Pours cloudy rich golden in color with a moderately thick white head, good retention and plenty of lace. Inviting aromas of German malts, apples, honey, estery yeast, and a citric hoppiness. Tastes lightly sweet, but with a dry tarty balance--malty but with apples, tart wheat, estery, and a malty cookie and floral finish. Very light in body, but creamy and complementary to the nicely balanced flavor. This beer gave me a new appreciation for alt biers, very tasty stuff. Very easy to drink, very good.

Poured from bottle into stange. (Warning: don't serve this too warm, or you will get lots of foam!)

A: Clear straw color with a copious head that faded with nice lacing.

S: Earthy, grass with a hint of noble hops.

T: Classic altbier. Crisp, tart, and refreshing. Sharp bite up front gives way to a malty center. The finish is grainy and hoppy together.

M: Rather light in body with massive carbonation that cut through the fat in the meal I was having it with.

D: When you're in the mood for an alt, this is one to reach for.

500 ml. bottle poured into a stange.

A: Pours a light golden/straw-color with 2 inches head. Slightly cloudy. Good carbonation.

S: Some hops and citrus. That's about it...

T: Hops and malt. Really tastes a lot more like a pilsener than anything else. Not too much flavor.

M: Clean and crisp. Goes down easily, but that might also be because it hardly has any taste to it.

D: Not too impressed with this one. Easy to drink, but isn't anything special.

Hazy straw yellow pour out of the 500ml bottle with a couple fingers of fluffy white head. Has some sweet banana yeast on the nose, but then the smell of a musty barn enters. Faint hops in the aroma and taste. A bit of lemon-like tartness mixed in with a touch of sweetness. This beer just doesn't do it for me. I'm not real familiar with this style, so I may have to come back to this at a later date.

A: Poured from a bottle to a stange. Had a brownish-yellow color and a cloudy-murky consistency. There was a small amount of foamy head that quickly dissipated. Not much lacing.

S: A sweet, grassy smell, with some hops and a sugary quality.

T: The grassiness, more than anything dominated the taste. Also had a tinge of hops and caramel in it as well. An OK taste, but not overwhelmingly awesome.

M: A high amount of carbonation with a dry, smooth finish. Light-bodied.

D: For an organic beer (with which I haven't had much luck) this one is drinkable. Not something I'd come running back to.

This is light but tasty, with a firm character, a little complexity, and high drinkability.

Slightly hazy straw-gold, it has a medium white head steadily shrinking to a thin foamy ring and a little weak lace.

Aroma is fully fruity grain, herbs, bread, apple, pear, yeast - a bit like a Belgian blonde/pale ale crossed with a helles bier.

Taste is similar, light, crisp, but with a solid, firm character and a little complexity well-rounded. It is strong, fruity grain, yeasty-tangy bread dough, mineral, light herbs, hay, light pear and apple. It finishes with a mineral-lemony dryness, slightly yeasty-lemony-earthy tartness, before a slightly sweeter, lingering aftertaste of grain.

500 mL brown bottle with no freshness code on it. Pours a mostly clear light gold color with a full three-fingers worth of fluffy white foam. Retention is excellent, as is the lacing. A bit lighter in color than expected, but it is a really good looking beer.

Smell is grainy and rye bread maltiness with a fair shot of grassy hops (Hallertau?). Malts continue to develop as it warms into some nice sweet caramel and toffee notes. Pretty big nose for an alt.

This is a pretty refreshing and tasty brew. The malts are slightly sweet and crackery. Hops provide enough balance and even a bit of hay-like grass flavors. Mouthfeel is a touch on the thin side and it is not exactly a complex beer, but its a nice drinker that I wish was cheaper and sold in six-packs. A good sessionable beer.

Poured from a bottle into an arrogant bastard glass. Beer is dark yellow / light brown. Smell is wheaty but no hop character. Carbonation / head was large to begin with and fell away quickly, carbonation persists through the life of the beer. Taste is great, wheaty, nice, not hoppy. Mouthfeel is full, drinkability is high. Pinkus is a great brewery and they produce excellent beers. This is one of the best they produce. Check it out if you get a chance.

Pours a transparent yellow orange color with a thin white head. Sweet malts, grainy and lightly toasted, although slightly muted, the floral hop character creates the aromatics of a large pilsner. Crisp and bright in flavor, great balance. A little thin on body, bubbly, but very refreshing. Sure its not true to style 100% per say but a damn good beer, especially now in the summer time.

Sorry, I can't get as worked up about this beer as its rating would suggest. Alt is one of my favorite styles so I assumed Munster Alt would be similar. Not so. The appearance is fine, light straw with a decent head, and the nose was encouraging. The mouthfeel is somewhat thin, the taste delicate, but bland. This maybe a case of rating a beer based only on personal perception rather than judging it as compared to other examples of the same style - but realistically, how many authentic Alt beers am I going to find?
