500 ml bottle. Poured into a cylinder glass.

A: Deep golden-blond color and slightly hazy. The head is somewhat fizzy, yet substantial and white. Lacing was pretty good as well.

S: Has delicious fruity and flowery qualities about it. Also present is a dry crispness from the pale malt. Absolutely gorgeous nose on this one.

T: Starts with an ale-like fruitiness and is complemented by a slightly chalky, lager-like crispness. Pretty sweet, but not overly so by any means. An intriguing blend of flavors.

M: Fairly light-bodied, but substantial enough. Decent carbonation and the finish is slightly sweet and slightly dry.

D: Goes down so smooth and easy that it would be understandable if one lost track of how many of these he/she has had.

A very solid, delicious brew. At first the flavors reminded me of many different styles, and given what I've read, it seems that this beer is lighter (in color anyway) than most altbiers. Nevertheless, this one is infinitely drinkable and tasty. I could see this being a good gateway beer. I'm not sure how its being organic factored into the taste, but hey, it's organic (for what it's worth)!

A: Straw gold liquid with a big puffy white head.

S: Fruity malt without any hop character that I can distinguish. Some vinous yeasty notes.

T: Lots of fruity grain flavor. Mild apricots are somehow brought forth from malted barley. It has the meticulous attention to grain that you find in German beers. It just doesn't draw me in as much as the best of them.

M: Pretty good mouthfeel. It's a touch thin but fresh and crisp on the palate.

D: Interesting but not incredible. It's a surprisingly solid beer, but I can't say that I'll necessarily buy another bottle.

A: Medium gold and a tiny bit cloudy. Head diminishes quickly.

S: Dominant scent is of spicy German hops, and a little malty smell to back it up. Otherwise, not terribly aromatic, but Alts just aren't.

T: Clean and fresh. Flavors are subdued and balanced. Nothing jumps out and grabs you but the balance. Not quite as much of a caramel flavor as other alts.

MF: Very light bodied and mildly carbonated.

D: Very drinkable. This would be a great session beer on a hot day. No real bells and whistles, though. Do all beers need bells and whistles? I have to continuously remind myself that the answer is no.

1pt, .9fl oz brown bottle. no date found.

pale golden straw, almost clear. some head, but fades to wispy layer. nice lacing.

aroma of toasty malts and noble hops. hint of white grape or yeasty esters.

similarly malty and toasted flavors with classic noble hops. gentle to moderate bitterness. clean finish with flash of more malt and even a trace of acidity beforehand.

light, but smooth. moderate, spritzy carbonation.

paler than i've come to expect of alts, but manages to retain quite a lot of malt character.

A: Slightly hazy gold with mild carbonation from small bubbles. Bone white head starts out fizzy, turns rocky and then settles to a thin film. Leaves bits of lace.

S: Fruity apple and pear scents, with a straw backbone. A little bit musty too.

T: Quite hay like, with a pepper bitterness that provides nice balance. A pear flavor can be tasted throughout the experience. Finishes tart and dry with a lingering lemon flavor.

M: Medium body feels bit syrupy. Carbonation level is a tad too high.

D: A nice unassuming beer. I'm glad I picked it up. Relatively low ABV makes for easy drinking. Seems like a good session beer.

Altbier? I can't say I get too much altbier. This should be interesting.

A - Poured the pint perfectly into a weizen glass. Clumpy head, not much lacing, clear dull-sunflower colored body.

S - Upon opening, the aroma of this beer was unmistakable. Nothing too unusual, just a good fresh beery aroma. I also get lavender as the beer warms and the aroma opens up. I really like the fresh, clean smell of this beer.

T - Again, nothing too unusual. Bread-crust malt bill, hops of the spicy, earthy-grassy variety; I'm guessing Saaz. Pretty well-balanced. Very clean to me, this comes off like a very good lager.

F - Crisp feel, with plenty of active carbonation. Light-medium bodied.

D - Not the most unusual beer I've ever had, but crisp, refreshing and tasty. It would be a good, and perhaps excellent, pairing for a wide range of foods. I'm especially thinking raw oysters at a dockside Florida restaurant. File under "refreshing," "versatile."

500ml bottle with no dating info.

I've never had an alt before so this review is strictly based on my impression of this beer.

This beer is a very hazy gold with light orange highlights and fizzy white head. The head started at about 1 finger but quickly diminished to a small film and a nice collar. No lacing.

The aroma is light a fruity, similar to champagne. Taste is tart and dry. Again, this is like a champagne or fruity white wine. The finish is clean with very little aftertaste. The flavor is not very strong, though. I would like a little more punch.

Mouthfeel is light and clean. Very refreshing.

This is definitely a beer that I could down a few of. I imagine that on a summer evening five or six of these would disappear without too much effort.

Poured from a 16.9 oz bottle into stange.

A - Slightly hazy, bright yellow. Two fingers of white head have decent retention before falling to a thick collar with a thin film. Moderate lacing also.

S - Biscuity, bready, and quite sweet. Lots of helles lager elements. Some metallic aroma is noted along with grassy and somewhat floral hops.

T - Extremely bready backbone and overall sort of bland with a modest sweetness. Suggestions of lemon juice and chalk try to break through but are never full realized. Some grassy/borderline floral hop character appears mid to late palate. Slight graininess and a smidge of bitterness enter late palate with an extremely clean finish.

M - Light to medium bodied with a very soft, almost nonexistent carbonation. It's actually a little strange feeling as I'd expect this beer to be a little more crisp.

D - A refreshing, thirst quenching beer. I'd like to see some more character in Munster Alt, as it's bland enough to drink quickly and easily without having to spend too much time pondering over the flavor. Overall a decent beer reminiscent of southern German pale lagers.

5L bottle poured into pint glass
A - Pale yellow with off white head that falls to a ring
S - Sweet rich malt, grass, hops
T - Sweet up front with hop bitterness and a dry finish.
M/F - Light in body. Lively carbonation yet smooth.
D - All night long!

Pours a hazy straw yellow with a thin, white head. Smell is grainy and wheaty. Taste is also wheaty, very tart, with a large citrus flavor as well. Very little bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium, slightly prickly carbonation. Pretty drinkable though, I would drink this again. I think this is the first Altbier I've had, its OK, but I suspect there may be better examples out there.

a:light golden color chill haze that never cleared. medium carbonation. large bubbled thin white head that was short lasting. lacing on the low end.

a:lemon/tart. german pilsner malt . oddly sweet tea-like aroma. not much hop aroma but what is there is floral. some roasted/munich? malt

t:moderate bitterness. pilsner malt with slight rusty oxidation. some yeasty esters. mild tart(wheat?). minimal hint of sulfur. floral hop flavor is low. lingering pilsenr graininess.

m:medium body and carbonation with slight oiliness. mildly dry finish.

o:mild oxidation skews my perception. pilsner quality is initially offensive and then savory.
expected more color and haze is not to style.
an enjoyable beer and ive not had many alts but adds to my growing list organics that i'm not dying to have again.

A: Poured a pale golden-orange with a bright white pillowy head. Visible carbonation was moderate.

S: spicy and yeasty with oranges and citrus.

T: The flavor had some nutbread, oranges, and citrus. There was a moderate citric bite (lemons) and a light breadiness with a light herbal hopping. The beer finished with a nice spicy and zesty lemony tang.

M: citric, tart, with light carbonation.

D: Ok drinkability, a modest drinking alt.

Pours lemon yellow color. Very clear with no head. Smell - mostly honey with touch of grapefruit. Very nice. Taste is the same - honey, malts, a bit too sweet to me, but stil pretty good. Mouthfeel - nice, crisp, not overly carbonated. It's very light beer and it's very drinkable. I would definately have another one (it's fair to mention that it's pretty pricey - about 4.5$ per bottle)

Pinkus Organic. One of the coolest beer labels out there. Who are those dudes in black and white? The Muller brothers, that's who. Or is it father and son?

Poured into a Belgian snifter, just for the heck of it. Appears dirty, dull blond in color. Thin film of foam on top. Nothing to shake a stick at, that's for sure. But the nose is where this alt really begins to shine. Buttered popcorn, butterscotch, peach, faint lemon, some distant pepper, strawberry. What a beautiful aroma we have here. Seriously, this is perhaps the most pleasant alt nose I've ever enjoyed. Taste follows suit, but with less butterscotch, more lemon and citrus, and a much fruitier overall quality to it. Mouthfeel is full-bodied, rich and creamy, and evenly smooth. A tad watery in the finish, but it doesn't detract too much.

I love this beer. I'm not as familiar with the alt style as I am with other beers, but I really love this one. Totally quaffable and thoroughly enjoyable. Nicely done, Pinkus men.

Pours straw yellow with two finger white head. A little light for a Dusseldorf Alt? Perhaps in Munster Alts are lighter in color. Nice floral aroma. I detect some butterscotch and citrus in the taste. Malt is medium and finishes with a nice citrus bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium and drinkability good. I could drink several of these-good for a warm summer niight.

Appearance: Cloudy dark yellow. Off white head with some staying power. Adequate chunky lacing.

Smell: Very fruity. Earthy lemon with a touch of banana. A bit of floral in the aroma.

Taste: Similar to the nose. Starts off strongly herbal. Goes to a grainy sweet malt with touches of lemon/peach. Finish is tart.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with an effervescence carbonation.

This is a nice alt. Fairly light and refreshing. I could definitely throw back a few of these. Another well done organic brew.

Think I got a bad bottle. Butterscotch aroma. Butterscotch flavor and odd carbonation. Bleh. Very little head, no lace. Not drinking more of this. Hints of bridal leather and kerosene, reminds me of the fresh earth at a funeral. The finish was thankfully, not that long nor lingering. No bbe date.

Single bomber bottle copped from Gary's in Madison for $2.75...
Very different than your average Altbier, with a pronounced mustard and butter flavor, very unique with a strong body and flavor to match...
Pours a hazy, murky hue with rising carbonation and a significant amount of lacing...
Smell: Replete with bread, butter, carmel, and slight sugars...
Taste: Flavor strongly complemented the aroma, and as mentioned before, had a mustard-like aftertaste, with bread and butter on the tongue as well...
Good, creamy mouthfeel along with a great level of drinkability...
Certainly a different-style beer...
Worth a try...

Mellow aroma of sweet breads, lightly spicy. Dark yellow with a huge white creamy top and nice lacing, slow carbonation. Mouthfeel is full and creamy at the very start but finished with a little bit of a thin quality. Flavor is mild and easy on the palate making this alt very drinkable. Slightly sweet with a good breadiness. Enjoyable but slightly better than average.

Bottle from local grocery store. no fresh by date. By the state of it though i suspect that its fairly aged. poured into a pint glass

Inch pearly white head sticks to the glass. Golden yellow

Smell is very interesting Herbal and grainy. with maybe a little apple in the background

taste is mild and sweet but musky. Taste like pear bread and butter. lots of yeast and a tiny bit of hops at the end

lingers on the tongue grainy and thick

I haven't tried many organics. This beer is a nice start. Very pleased.

Light toasty Pilsner-like malt with touch of honey sweetness and snappy fruit.

Pale-medium yellow, good clarity, mild head, good retention.

Dry toasty malt hits first with grainy overtones and subtle malt sweetness. Touch of fruit and then overcome by bitterness. Few sips. Bitterness mostly gone, now a little tart. Few more sips. Crisp carbonation on medium-thin body. Apple-like fruit sensation and sweetness. Modest hop provides just a light balancing edge on the malt. Few more sips. More malt depth and a growingly tighter balance are interesting.

Pretty light, fairly refreshing, somewhat interesting on the palate.

altbier my foot!?! ... very pale gold... some foam but low .. some nice flavours, honey lychee- kinda of intriguing ... again, if this is an altbier, i'd be very surprised- i am not an altbier expert but it seems like a light version .. a decent enjoyable beer but nothing like i expected..

I tried this alongside a Pinkus Hefe-Weizen and found many similar characteristics between the two. The Alt is a cloudy amber with a sticky head that lasts all the way down the glass. Aroma is mostly bready but with a decent hit of citrus, but the citrus really overpowers in the taste: way too much orange for me in this style, almost to the point of tasting like a cough drop. Bitterness is quite present, which cuts the sweetness somewhat. In fact, this had more bitterness than other Alt biers I've tried, but in a pleasant way. Not bad, but probably not something I'll try again.

Pours easily with an almost three-finger thick, pale, just barely tanned, off-white colored head. The beer is a murky gold color that shows an only lightly hazed, bright, pale gold color when held up to the light. The aroma is noticeable spicy as I pour this, though it seems to be a bit more grassy / hay like with grain notes upon deeper inspection. This is definitely interesting smelling, spicy & grain-like, but somehow in a stale grain sort of way. It almost has a savory herbal note to it, somewhat earthy and definitely reminiscent of funky whole grain notes. I am not sure I really dig the aroma of this beer, but I wouldn't say I dislike it either.

Spicy and a bit peppery from a decent carbonation. The beer is very thin bodied, so much so that it almost seems to develop a tartness. This finishes with a light bitterness and graininess that is both grassy as well as a bit like stale crackers. Other flavors of earthy herbs, perhaps a touch of DMS and some green apple like flavors (especially towards the finish). There is not a whole lot of complexity to this beer and for some reason even the flavors I have mentioned have bee hard to pull out.

Really not a very good beer, it might be a bit past its prime, but many of the flavors don't really seem attributable to oxidation; a bottle date would have been really nice as I just bought this. This really just seems poorly constructed.

Aroma is strong and malty with fruity undertone, banana and a little apple. Pours a clear golden amber with a fairly thick and fluffy white head. Flavor is a bit thin but not bad - malty with a hint of bananas and just a whisper of sweetness. Texture is jazzy and lively. Not outstanding, but not too shabby.
