Pours a very hazy, dark golden yellow color with a one finger frothy white head that slowly settles into a lasting ring. Sporadic chunks of lacing left behind. Much lighter in color than expected for the style.

The aroma of this beer is extremely bland with some bready yeast, subtle pale malt and a very faint earthy hop presence. There's really not much else going on and it's hard to pick up anything except the yeast and faint grassy hops.

On the lighter end of medium bodied with an odd combination of bready yeast, grassy hops, citrus and astringent metal. Really weird and off style with a very watered down mineral like flavor. Some zesty spice, bready yeast, citrus peel and rusted tin. Bland and very unpleasant.

Think I got a bad bottle. Butterscotch aroma. Butterscotch flavor and odd carbonation. Bleh. Very little head, no lace. Not drinking more of this. Hints of bridal leather and kerosene, reminds me of the fresh earth at a funeral. The finish was thankfully, not that long nor lingering. No bbe date.

1pt, 9floz. served in a Dogfish Head pint glass

A - Pours a hazy orange color with an odd hue of green. Stark white sinks pretty quick.

S - Soured stone fruit, grapes, salty limes, hay, grain, faint sour berry aroma.

T - Stale grain, hay, chalky yeast, thin honey, faint peaches and general stone fruit. It turns more grassy in the middle and has a tangy sweetness to it. Finishes sweet and tangy.

M - Light thin body with low to medium carbonation.

A strange brew for sure. I almost thought it was brewed from lager yeast. Odd tangy notions that didn't blend well with a ho hum base beer. I like the fact that it's organic but this is a no go.

Poured a huge thick, white head atop a very light golden brew. The color is almost as light as budweiser which really surprised me as the last alt I had was Zum Uerige and it looked nothing like this. Aroma reminds me of hallertauer hops and it is blended with a dry toasty malt flavor and a weird ester I am not familiar with. The flavor is hoppy at first then it segues into an isipid watery flavor that finished very clean except for a touch of misplaced hop flavor. Very weird beer and I find it hard to call it an alt as it is sort of a mix between pilsner, alt, and kolsh. I would not buy this beer again.

The beer jumps out a pale translucent yellow color with a big foamy white head. Whaa? There is a light berry aroma. The flavor is very fruity, again, berry. It is sugary sweet with a slight soapiness in the finish/ aftertaste. Mouthfeel is the best thing here. It's mid-weight and fluffy. I was really expecting more from Ayinger on this. Maybe I'm just a dumb american, but his beer is not only antithetical to my idea of alt, its just not a very good beer for any style.

A: very cloudy, hazy. Color is a dirty, ruddy dark gold/bronze. Small thin diminishing head. Doesn't look like an alt, and worse, is not pretty to look at.
S: if I didn't know better id think I was smelling a hefeweizen. Very yeasty w/bananas and spicy cloves-or butterscotch? Just weird and seems off.
T: medium sweet bready malts and again tastes kinda like a hefeweizen. Manages to finish almost dry despite an almost undetectable hop presence.
M: thin and a bit watery. Could use more frothiness and fullness.
O: not at all like any alt I've had and just not good, to my taste.

This Pinkus comes in an unattractive old school style bottle. As it pours out it's a yellow tinted color with a very white head. The head goes away in about 2 mins after pouring it into the glass. The whole while the beer bubbles away like mad.

It smells kind of like sour milk and wheat. Not the most appetizing smell.

Slightly sweet wheaty flavor. Reminds me of baking. Not a big fan. The bubbles are a little much too.

Overall I'm not a big fan of this beer. This is the second time that I've tried it and both times now I've not been a fan. Maybe it's my dislike for the Alt style of beer.

Poured from bottle into pilsner glass. Liquid is a hazy yellow with a small white fizzy cap that quickly settles. Smell is incredibly bready, lots of raw dough and crust. Some yeast and malted wheat in the smell as well. Taste seems off - it is equally tart and sour as it is malty. I cant remember having an altbier that was this tart, not to mention this lacking in hop flavor. Mouthfeel is light body with a medium high carbonation. Drinkability is not too good because of the off flavors... Overall this beer's flavors are a bit harsh and unbalanced. Pinkus, meet drain.

Cloudy, straw color. Decent head (pure white), a little lace on the glass.

Grainy, thin smelling--rather similar to N/A beers.

Thin bodied and surprisingly similar to a pilsner. Very high carbonation. A touch of citrus. Very low hop level--could this be the German version of Bud?

This is not what I expected. I'm used to something closer to a British Mild. This is a weak expression of an Alt.

Half liter brown bottle, no bottling date.

Burnished straw gold in color, with a small white cap that quickly reduces to a thin halo.

Has aromas of lemons, & herbs.

Wheat, a sour tingle, some pepper, solvent, & floral hops.

Medium bodied, slightly crisp.

Not really what I'm after in an altbier. Not a lot going on, and what was going on didn't interest me.

Organic Munster Alt

Appearance- piss yellow with no head at all.
Smell- yeasty, pilsner. Sweet.
Taste- sweet and yeasty. Flat.
Mouthfeel- watery and disappointing. Went down smooth though!?

Overall- what is this?! Too watery, too cheap tasting. Maybe I have a bad bottle but this was a total waste.

Hazy straw golden. A little beige head provides minimal lace. The aroma is quite bready. And yeasty. And mildly fruity. This beer seems slippery on the tongue. Quite slick and not too enjoyable. There's a trace tart quality that really isn't appropriate. Lemony as well. Some bready malts and german hops noted as well. Probably my least favorite alt to date.

Brewed with up to 40% malted wheat in the grist, this Alt is very different than the class ic Dusseldorfer Alt.

Poured from a 16oz brown bottle (no freshness date) at cellar temps. Cloudy light amber (dull pale colour). A tight 3 finger head head formed which left decent laceing on my ale glass. The aroma was mainly tart with a background maltiness. The large proportion of malted wheat gives this alt a very tart taste profile. Some sweetness from the malts can be detected in the middle, and the finish was a bit sour and dry. The body was thin. Very little hop character.

This Alt is more akin to a poorly brewed American Wheat or Berliner Weiss. It displays none of the characteristics of a classic Alt. For lovers of classic Alts, please avoid

Misty cider (how telling) with a thick broth of white head.
Nose of musty pressed apples and brown stalky hops.
Enter with a tart notion of granny smith apple sauce. And here it lingers for a good long while. Doughier in the midlands, but still with a raw tartness that seems ultimately out of place. Fades with vague notions of herbal hops.
Medium in both body and carbonation.
Maybe I just prefer the Dusseldorf renditions, but this one has little worth to me.

500ml bottle from Gourmet Haus Staudt. Straw colored with some haziness. The head doesn't stick around long on this one, receding in minutes to a thin film. Smells very fruity, but it's hard to place - persimmon maybe? A bit of tartness, citrus zest, light bready malt and a bit of aspirin. Similar on the palate, ambiguously fruity with a touch of lemony tartness and orange peel. Fairly sweet, and lacking the bitter finish I'd expect from an alt (or any finish to speak of, actually - it just falls off the palate). Finishes with an aspirin-like flavor that puts me off. The body is thin and carbonation a bit too low. Pretty mediocre, though it goes down easily enough.

Drank this from a pint poured from the bottle. A gold that's almost transparent. Bubbly and I got a single finger head that sounds clearly then recedes with hardly even a lacing.

Picking up hints of citrus but mostly malts and not a lot else.

The first sip is stinging and it stays that way through out. I'm getting coriander through mild carbonation that provides zero cover. That being said, the flavor lingers with citrus and garlic and it's all front and no back. There is a staining aftertaste that offers little more in terms of flavor. Re-asserts itself, I suppose. Very malty and opens up to serious citrus toward the middle third.

It's a light brew that's doesn't pack much in the way of carbonation. Can't hold it on the tongue for long, honestly.

Sting is admittedly problematic as this is not a necessarily smooth brew. That being said, it can be dealt with quickly and the lack of back helps this area out.

Pours easily with an almost three-finger thick, pale, just barely tanned, off-white colored head. The beer is a murky gold color that shows an only lightly hazed, bright, pale gold color when held up to the light. The aroma is noticeable spicy as I pour this, though it seems to be a bit more grassy / hay like with grain notes upon deeper inspection. This is definitely interesting smelling, spicy & grain-like, but somehow in a stale grain sort of way. It almost has a savory herbal note to it, somewhat earthy and definitely reminiscent of funky whole grain notes. I am not sure I really dig the aroma of this beer, but I wouldn't say I dislike it either.

Spicy and a bit peppery from a decent carbonation. The beer is very thin bodied, so much so that it almost seems to develop a tartness. This finishes with a light bitterness and graininess that is both grassy as well as a bit like stale crackers. Other flavors of earthy herbs, perhaps a touch of DMS and some green apple like flavors (especially towards the finish). There is not a whole lot of complexity to this beer and for some reason even the flavors I have mentioned have bee hard to pull out.

Really not a very good beer, it might be a bit past its prime, but many of the flavors don't really seem attributable to oxidation; a bottle date would have been really nice as I just bought this. This really just seems poorly constructed.

500 ML bottle>massive mug

AP: A pale golden color with a mild white hazed effect, very macro-lager-ish with a small, thin all-white head that displays some decent retention and a bit of lacing.

Nose: There's a slightly sweet roasted barley and-wheat smell with a mild yeast and bready effect. some minor herbalized hop scent way down deep.

Taste: A watery and slightly sweet malted wheat taste that is rather thin lager-like. There's a yeastie and bready effect, but is not nearly complex or deep enough to keep my taste buds happy. Much, much thinner and weaker than most good Altbiers that I've had.

MF: This feels very lively and active but thin and forgetable.

DA: Another, not-so-good organic offering. I was really routing for this one to be decent. I expected an Alt and got a thin American Macro Lager. Oh well.
