This Pinkus comes in an unattractive old school style bottle. As it pours out it's a yellow tinted color with a very white head. The head goes away in about 2 mins after pouring it into the glass. The whole while the beer bubbles away like mad.

It smells kind of like sour milk and wheat. Not the most appetizing smell.

Slightly sweet wheaty flavor. Reminds me of baking. Not a big fan. The bubbles are a little much too.

Overall I'm not a big fan of this beer. This is the second time that I've tried it and both times now I've not been a fan. Maybe it's my dislike for the Alt style of beer.

When poured from its pint bottle to my pint glass, it had an awesome gold color with a bright white head. The aroma was delicate with a sweet malt base and a piney hop scent probably due to the noble hops used (Saaz?).The flavor was delicate with a light body and a dry finish. The piney hop flavor is present during the entire tasting. All and all, it was a light, refreshing, delicate beer. And best of all, it's 100% organic!

Extremely drinkable, and that's about all I liked about this one.

I need to get more familiar with this style, but like most reviewers I really feel this beer is lacking in many areas.

Had this one poured from bottle into tall pilsner glass, drank with some fontina cheese.

Poured pleasant golden with pillowy 3 finger head which dissipates fairly quickly.

Smell and taste is pretty flat. I detect a lot of yeast presence with an odd bitterness and some pronounced fresh apple and grapefruit with a touch of spice (nutmeg?)

Silky mouthfeel with good carbonation. Finished it in 5 minutes due to drinkability and my overall desire to get through it and grab another from my fridge.

Be hard pressed to buy this one again. Time will tell, at least to me, whether this is at all like a true altbier.

A - Cloudy, hazy shades of gold. Thin head formed at the top and dissolved after a few seconds. Looks much like a slightly darker hefeweizen.

S - Smells of alcohol and citrus. Hints of overripe banana and other herbal aromas.

T - Solidly good all around. The beer spashes on the tongue spicy and assertive yet it does not overpower the senses. Grains, cereal, and lemon peel were the first flavors I detected. There's actually a lack of presence of flavor, maybe because this feels like a traditional Belgian - but it works!

M - Thin on the palate and it kind of stings when it sits. Not very good in this particular area.

D - Goes down smooth and delicious. Decent drinkability.

Pours a hazy golden lemon cloud color with long lasting foamy head. The bubbles are moderately tight on top and larger and more soapy looking further down. Tastes of a lemon haze - pilser/hefe mix. Notes of lemon, sweet vanilla and plain graham cracker. Nicely drinkable.

This .5l brown bottle of Pinkus Münster Alt poured a hazy blond to gold color, definitely unexpected for an Alt. It had a thick fluffy white head which dissipated slowly leaving a slight lacing. Fine bubbles evolved from the sides and bottom of the glass throughout.

The Aroma was dominated by toasty, bready clean malt. Spicy noble hop aromas were also evident with a slight earthiness reminiscent of wild mushrooms.

The flavor profile was dominated by clean bready malt, but contained fruity, floral and citrus elements as well. Hop bitterness was mild but assertive and the hop flavor was of spicy noble hops. This beer had a relatively dry finish with lingering bitterness and a slight hint of earthy wild mushroom which came out late.

The body of this beer was lighter than expected… it had a light mouthcoat and a light degree of carbon dioxide bite.

An unusual Alt to be sure, Pinkus Münster Alt was not what I had expected, but was a great beer none the less. Organic and unfiltered… this beer was full flavored and enjoyable.

Pours a hazy dark yellow with a dense off-white head.

The smell is fruity with notes of banana and malt. Some slightly off putting earthyness.

The taste is complex with fruit and malt sweetness and herbal hops and a slight lingering bitterness.

Very smooth and drinkable with a surprisingly rich mouthfeel.

Sorry, I can't get as worked up about this beer as its rating would suggest. Alt is one of my favorite styles so I assumed Munster Alt would be similar. Not so. The appearance is fine, light straw with a decent head, and the nose was encouraging. The mouthfeel is somewhat thin, the taste delicate, but bland. This maybe a case of rating a beer based only on personal perception rather than judging it as compared to other examples of the same style - but realistically, how many authentic Alt beers am I going to find?

A - Pours a very light golder yellow with a thin head. Fairly active carbonation.

S - Light and crisp with citrus, apple, and fresh hay.

T - Orange, lemon, and sweet grain.

M - Crisp, but a little on the thin side.

D - Goes down pretty easy, but it is very light, almost like a macro. This is ballpark beer. Gave my wife a taste, and she thought it tasted like a very heavily watered-down Hoegaarden.

500ml bottle with no dating info.

I've never had an alt before so this review is strictly based on my impression of this beer.

This beer is a very hazy gold with light orange highlights and fizzy white head. The head started at about 1 finger but quickly diminished to a small film and a nice collar. No lacing.

The aroma is light a fruity, similar to champagne. Taste is tart and dry. Again, this is like a champagne or fruity white wine. The finish is clean with very little aftertaste. The flavor is not very strong, though. I would like a little more punch.

Mouthfeel is light and clean. Very refreshing.

This is definitely a beer that I could down a few of. I imagine that on a summer evening five or six of these would disappear without too much effort.

Pours much lighter than expected for a Dusseldorf Alt, but this is from Munster. Very light head, and the color is a hazy orange-yellow. The smell from the yeast in the bottle is evident along with malty aromas. The taste is mostly from the malt with an almost astringent hop flavor on the tounge. This could also be from the yeast I guess. The body seems very thin yet there is still a good malt base. I would definitly choose a Dusseldorf Alt over this, but still an interesting beer.

Poured from a 500 ml bottle into my Lazy Magnolia glass

A - Pours a very pale yellow with a fizzy head that quickly dissipates to a very thin cap. This doesn't look like what I think an alt should look like.

S - Smells of earthy malts, with a crisp, very slight hop backing. This smells very "German," if that makes sense... probably from either noble or hallertau hops? Also, a faint pear/cider like aroma pulls through, maybe a result of a cross atlantic trip?

T - Bready malt is very assertive up front, and this is good. A sweet, fruity hop character comes through towards the very dry finish. Still getting a sour, pear-like characteristic.

M&D - Extremely carbonated, and not the smooth, creamy, yet light mouthfeel I love about alts. Pretty weird. However, I could see myself drinking this in the summertime, but over a good hefe or german or czech pils or lager...?

Beer poured cloudy with slight to medium fluffy white head. Nose is mostly Munich malts (bready), along with a slight hop note mixed in yeasty notes (earthy, cedary).

More assertive in flavor than a German larger, and without the hard water notes that are common in English ales. More low key than American ales, but much less astringint than a typical American micro-ale, thanks to European malts. Flavor profile opens with hop bitterness, followed slowly building mellow sweetness from Munich and caramel malts, and a sweet finish.

A: Golden/straw color. A bit cloudy. White head dissipates to a thin line of white foam with pretty good lace.

S: Carmel sweetness comes through on top. A little doughy maltiness. Just a wee bit of grassy hop character.

T: Sweetness and maltiness, honey character. I also get a sort of sourness, a fruity acidity that is a little off putting at first, but then begins to lend itself to a nice crisp finish. The hop character is restrained, but in nice balance with the sweetness.

M: Carbonation is a little too thin for me. Other than that it has a nice clean finish and a lingering sweetness. The taste left on the tongue after a glass of the stuff is almost as if you just finished off some cider.

D: Smooth and crisp. The finish is really the best part of this beer. You could drink a few of these, especially on a hot day.

A- hazy golden with a white head that dissipates quickly

S- bready, yeasty smell, with a hint of something zesty, like orange marmalade

T- slightly sweet bready malt with a sour finish, in tune with that marmalade smell

M- Well rounded, right amount of carbonation to drink a bunch of, very smooth

O- overall I like this, but I think it is a little too sour to be a really good Alt. There is not enough malt flavor and aroma or bitterness, and a little too much fruit/yeast ester going on to make this a quaffable Alt.

a:light golden color chill haze that never cleared. medium carbonation. large bubbled thin white head that was short lasting. lacing on the low end.

a:lemon/tart. german pilsner malt . oddly sweet tea-like aroma. not much hop aroma but what is there is floral. some roasted/munich? malt

t:moderate bitterness. pilsner malt with slight rusty oxidation. some yeasty esters. mild tart(wheat?). minimal hint of sulfur. floral hop flavor is low. lingering pilsenr graininess.

m:medium body and carbonation with slight oiliness. mildly dry finish.

o:mild oxidation skews my perception. pilsner quality is initially offensive and then savory.
expected more color and haze is not to style.
an enjoyable beer and ive not had many alts but adds to my growing list organics that i'm not dying to have again.

A - Straw colored, dramatic white head that dissipates as quickly as it appears.

S - Sweet malts and earthy muskiness.

T - Very sweet and floral with a honey finish.

M - Lighter than expected, very pleasant.

D - I had no idea what to expect with this one. I expected something much darker and rougher but was given a sweet surprise.

Organic "monster" alt is straw yellow in color and slightly. It is nicely carbonated. The head dissipates quickly. The flavor is straightforward -- nicely malty and clean, just a bit sweet with a pleasantly lingering aftertaste. Overall light but flavorful and well balanced.

First off, it doesn't look like an alt, I'm used to Hannen and Kutscher alt, instead of the usual dark amber it is a cloudy pale gold.

Like I've said before, my nose doesn't work too good so I can't comment on the smell.(no, I'm not a coke head).

Now it comes to taste. It doesn't taste like the alts I'm used to, but it's still a pretty tasty beer, not something I'd drink on a regular occasion but a not unpleasant change of pace.

I don't know, I lived in K-Town so maybe there is a difference between southern and northern alts but for an alt, I much prefer a Hannen to the Pinkus.
