Poured from a pint bottle into a weizen glass on 03.02.14.

A: Yellow. Typical opaque yeast cloud at the top of glass. More see through at the bottom. 1/4 finger head.

S: Lemon with some bitterness.

T: Tangy lemon dominates. Wheat is there too. There's also a strange funk or skunk flavor.

M: Smooth. Watery.

O: This wasn't a complex hef. It was too watery and had no yeast flavor. The funk or skunk quality almost prompted me to drain pour it, but I held on and didn't get sick afterwards. Maybe it was a bad batch. Based on what I had, there are many better hefs out there.

This beer poured an almost crystal clear gold until I decided to activate the yeast and pour in the rest of the beer. There was a stormy mess of a mixture until it all settled into an opaque straw yellow brew. There was the typical thick head, but on the Pinkus it quickly dissipated and left little lacing. There was faint banana on the nose, but I picked up more of the clove spice typical of the style. The taste was strong on the Hefe spice and begins with a bready wheat that melds into the spice. I did not have much in the way of the signature banana and bubble gum yeast notes that I have come to expect, but more spice and wheat. The opaque appearance and creamy mouthfeel belied its light and refreshing finish.

Appearance: Cloudy, golden yellow color with one finger of white head that fades to a ring with little lacing.

Aroma: Grainy wheat malt, yeast and a little cooked veggy.

Taste: Creamy with a fair amount of wheat malt up front, then some mild earthy bitterness and some lemon as the carbonation builds, then finishing a bit dish-raggy with hints of banana and clove.

The Rest: A fairly mediocre Hefe, lacking a bit in character. Not as crisp or as yeasty as I like.
