It's okay. Very bitter and tastes of espresso and chicory. Medium body feel

a very good interpretation of this style, didnt know this had vanilla in it, but now that i do, its a pretty impressive stout, fancy even, nicely made, fresh for the style which is strange but relevant here, and overall higher quality than so many of these, why did it take me until now to get into it? its dessert forward yeah, i wish they were more forthcoming with that, but the base stout is nice too, a bit light as these go, but almost as a challenge, somewhat annoyingly so, but here we are. its not too sweet, but it does have brownie elements, the richness is real, the malt runs the show, but i get a little something on the ferment too, and its quite dynamic overall, robust and with light smoke, baked with a hint of cocoa, and also cigarettes and cigars. i stand for this kind of thing, even though i wish it came in a little drier. good quality, works with breads and pastries and pretzels (i assume). something easily overlooked but it shouldnt be. good smells and tastes, no pretension, there never is from this modest brewery. if this was in a dark glass bottle with a cork and some gold leaf on the label or something, it would be on all the best beer lists, unassuming then in a good way, rather this than that...

12 oz can. Pours nearly but not quite opaque black with a medium brown head. Aroma: roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla. Taste is the same with a dry malty woody finish.

1 month old can into a pint glass. Mahogany color with slight translucent character, great 2 finger head, off white with good lacing. The nose is all candied blackberries, some roasted stone fruit, not much smoke. The taste follows suit with some woody fruit, chocolate covered plums with fruity cacao and cinnamon bark. The body is very smooth while being nice and dry, not cloying.
Good dark fruit stout, although I personally prefer the more smoky and roasted style.

Look: Pitch black with a dense and vigorous tan head that billows up to a pillow and slowly settles, leaving great lacing behind
Aroma: Chocolate, roasted barley, coffee, a little vanilla bean, sweet cream, and freshly baked bread
Taste: A whirlwind of roast, chocolate, and vanilla come onto the scene and soon joined by waves of creaminess and rich bready malt. Hints of coffee peek in occasionally until more chocolatey roast holds to the close
Mouthfeel: Full and smooth, creamy, and soft throughout, including in the finish
Overall: I dig it. This is a delicious cream stout with enough vanilla hints to let you know it’s there but without overpowering the overall flavor profile in the process. Lots of dark malt and bread depth plus good ol’ tasty chocolate and roast all help to tame this deceivingly 7.7% beast. A warmer for sure and well done. Recommended

"Our ode to starry, starry nights" Canned on 9/2/20 from Bend, OR
L: A Black as night poor, not a star in the sky. Seriously, black. A silky light caramel head forms after settling tall and effervescent. Head subsides in a few minutes.
S: Sweet malty sea salt caramel and toffee. Deep and rich sequential nose.
T: A creamy mocha with caramel drizzle. Notes of vanilla and hazelnut. Coffee hits first then the roasted caramel follows at the back of the palate. Bitterness nonexistent. A sure holiday brew.
F: Again, creamy. Velvety in the mouth, medium-full body, reaches all corners of the mouth. Surprising absence of booze.
Lights Out American Stout is a heavy hitter at 7.7abv but you would not think so by the way it drinks. The silky body and blankets the booze while the coffee and caramel caress it across the palate. There are not a slew of flavors present, no spice save vanilla, but the coffee and caramel toffee satisfy a tender sweet tooth. I would drink it again but still prefer Deschutes Black Butte. Worthy is a safe second.

I bought this cold turkey without doing my usual meticulous research. Wife said I needed to be more spontaneous in my beer buying - we have been married long enough for me to let that comment pass without a rebuttal. Was pleasantly surprised with this one. Rich color with a light brown head that dissipates quickly, perhaps too quickly. Solid taste with a hint of coffee and vanilla. A solid brew at a reasonable price, and the 7.7 ABV will help me endure those dark wet winter Pacific Northwest nights.

Pours dark mahogany with nice pocked mocha head. Smells light. Taste is surprisingly light in the front but develops into a refined malty toastiness. Light body and dry finish.

Six pack of cans picked up at Total Wine in Lynnwood, Washington.
Canned on 10/30/19. Poured in to a Samuel Smith pint glass.
Look- Mostly opaque, dark mahogany color. Modest light mocha colored head that quickly recedes to a light foam ring around the edge of the glass, light lacing. Small carbonation streams visible.
Smell- Roasted malts, brown sugar/molasses, dark fruit, white chocolate, a little coffee, spicy/herbal notes.
Taste- Roasted malts, coffee and light chocolate, a bit of dark fruits (raisins and dates), caramel/brown sugar, sweet soy sauce, slight licorice notes.
Feel- Fairly light bodied with a soft texture. Semi sweet finish, soft carbonation on the tongue.
O- I wanted to like this one, but just can't get behind it. It's ok at best, not worth a repurchase.

Dark brown with a red tint and plenty of foam in the chalice. Aroma of roasted malt. Dark caramel flavors but an overall bright and sweet maltiness. Lush carbonation adds to the mouthfeel. Just a faint bitterness, and more than a touch of dark chocolate. This is pleasantly sudsy dark brew with more interest than a lot of Stouts. From the 12 oz can purchased at Elizabeth Station.

Apart from its slightly watery mouthfeel and lighter body, there’s not too much to dislike about this brew. All the flavors are spot on for a perfect stout, I’d imagine a stronger ABV with a little more back bone would put this brew in exceptional territory

12oz can poured into 14oz teku. Poured the expected solid black color with about a half-inch of tan head that moderate retention and very light lacing.
The nose was the expected roast, some additional grain, and a light hit of vanilla. Pretty similar on the tongue; roast, malt, a bit of vanilla.
The body was fairly typical, perhaps a bit lighter than I would have liked, and nicely smooth. A nice level of carbonation carried throughout the pour. Drinkability was fine, I could knock back more of these. Overall, a nice brew, one that doesn't particularly stand out from the pack, but enjoyable enough. Worth a shot if you see it.
