An aggressive pour yields a dark chestnut body with a nice bubbly soft head of dark cream. Better lacing than I expected. Nose leans more into the IPA side of the CDA with some light floral and citrus notes. Then comes some grains and round caramel and a lightly burnt character. Sweet dark grains lead in with a nice blunt bitter hoppy counterbalance. Maybe a little thin on the body, but it's creamy and smoothe and the finish is a nice combination of burnt malts and bitter piney hops.
You don't see many CDAs out anymore and that's a shame. Glad to have come across this one!

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a very dark mahogany brown with a half finger dark khaki head with good retention and thick lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, citrus and piney hops and a hint of cocoa. Flavor is dark, moderately toasted malt, citrus and grassy hops with a grassy and lightly charry finish. Medium bodied with light creaminess. A well made CDA with a pleasant toasted malt base and IPA level hopping. The hops are a bit more grassy then citrus, leaving a distinct hay note to the finish, but overall this covers all the bases for a good CDA, a sadly uncommon style that I really like. Glad to see a few beers rom Populuxe in cans, I'll try another style when I see it. It appear they boosted the ABV a bit, this can states a 6.8 ABV.

I had this beer on-tap at the brewery in a taster glass.
Appearance: very dark brown, nearly black, with a moderate haze and a thin head of ivory foam. I like it.
Smell: very bright hops right off the bat, with a hint of a coriander-like fruitiness. I like it a great deal!
Taste: big, bright hops, with a very light caramel flavor and a light ashy roastiness at the end. The hops just persist all the way through with an amazing fruitiness. Wonderful.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a great, well-integrated carbonation and an amazing creaminess for the style. What!!
Overall: this beer floored me. I do not usually love CDA type beers, but this worked for me in spades. Woo!

CDA - on tap at the brewery
Dark, black body - foamy mocha lace. Moderate roasty tones throughout, sticky pine hops that I would suggest amplifying in future batches. The flavors were pretty good, but it just needs more of them. As it stands, an easy drinking CDA that shows some potential
