Bottle poured into a FFF Teku

A - Dark copper color that is dark and slightly reflective like copper. Nice frothy white head that settled down to foam on the sides with lacing 4

S- Tropical nose with loads of mango, passion fruit and pineapple. There is also a slight hint of bitterness but not much

T - This is a tropical fruit loaded sweet beer as up front you get loads of mango, pineapple, passion fruit, and strawberry. There is a light pine bitterness that comes through on the backend to cut the sweetness. Light pine lingers in the finish. This is one of the most tropical IIPAs I've had.

MF - Medium body with light carbonation that gives it a nice overall softness. Slight pine resin remains on the tongue in the finish

O - This is a stellar IIPA loaded with tropical fruit. Flavors that give it a nice mango and passion fruit sweetness. This has just enough bitterness to cut the sweetness and give it a nice edge.

(Served in a teku)
A- This beer has a crystal clear orange body with a slow carbonation of microbubbles and a creamy beige head that last or a good bit.

S- The pungent earthy hops have a nice citrus pith to them with some cat pee aromas growing in the finish.

T- The pungent dandelion green hops has some pineapple weed taste in to follow that turns into more of a canned tropical fruit and apricots hop flavor as it opens. Also some caramel sweetness starts to bleed through the mountain of hops as it opens. The pungent hop bit lingers and grows until it stains the tongue.

M- This beer has a medium-light mouthfeel and a slightly slippery texture with a gentle fizz and no real alcohol heat until it warms a bit.

O- this beer has a wonderful depth of hops and good malt support but all flavors are pretty soft compared to the punishing bitterness of the hops. That bitterness really dominates and grows as it opens until the tongue is done for the night.

Bright crystalline orange, with rising carb trails, a billowing head of creamy white foam sits on the surface. As it slowly recedes, a sticky halo of lacing adheres to the glass.

Big aroma of cantaloupe, melon, sticky hop resins and earthy mango. Dank and resiny, some dry sandalwood comes out at room temperature.

Earthy fruit sweetness, citrus peel, super resiny and moderately bitter, bursts of mango and greenery. Dry bitter finish, supple feel, pretty smooth and fairly complex. Nice hop delivery system and so much more.

Great first batch from 18th Street, looking forward to what the future holds...

Hey Chicago, you got a goddamn great new brewer nearby !
I know they use Spiteful's equipment but Sinister is great stuff.

Pours a golden with some orange and amber hints.
Pure white head that does not maintain a large amount of volume.
Aroma of mango, pine resin and some grapefruit.
Flavors of sweet malt, some orange and grapefruit and, little bit of spicy and residual sweetness.
Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy and much more dpeth that color would indicate.

Just a really great beer. combination comes together with phenemonal depth and really a great beer.

Reviewing Sinister from 18th Street Brewery, a local gypsy brewery founded by a Pipeworks' employee named Drew.

Score: 90

February 2012 vintage bottle served in a taster glass and enjoyed on 02/22/13. Review is from iPhone notes. This bottle is the third one from the left in the graveyard photo.

Appearance: Clean and clear bourbon color. Pours a finger of off white head that settles to a thick ring around the glass. Good lacing and retention. 4/5

Smell: Dank, resinous pine sap, dirty hops, orangey malt, mango, juicy pineapple and a little spice. 4.25/5

Taste: Earthy malt. A lot more maltiness on the palate than anticipated by the nose. Slightly oniony, akin to the Goose Island Imperial IPA (but not oniony like Deviant Dales or Devil Dancer). Some spice on the tongue too. Some acidity to boot with the bitter hoppiness. Residual bitterness. 4/5

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, medium carbonation. Nice bitterness. A little alcohol warmth on palate. 3.75/5

Overall: A solid first brew from a local brewery. I am excited to check a few more of their selections out as they become available.

Cost: $9.99 for a 22 oz (bomber) bottle.
