Here is a father’s toast to his son. Brewed with cocoa nibs and lactose, Hunter boasts a creamy texture and rich chocolate flavor. Vanilla, roast, and caramel sweetness are met with a bright hop bitterness.

Bottle of this stuff from Masterski. Thanks!

From a bottle into a snifter

APPEARANCE: A dark brown, opaque pour yields a one finger, medium looking, dark tan head with good retention. Black body with lower levels of carbonation evident. Head fades to a decent wisp and ring. A ring and splotchy wisp remain but leave no lacing down the glass.

SMELL: Roasted notes, chocolate for sure with some milk sugar, sweet cream and some vanilla. Definitely a milk stout, though there's a bit of stale coffee in there that hurts the cause.

TASTE: Light roasted flavor with sweet cream and some lactose sugar up front, moving into a caramel sweet and vanilla sweet cream finish. Medium but lingering aftertaste of lactose, some roasted notes, caramel sweetness and a bit of bitter, dark chocolate as balance. Some stale coffee lingers as well, which doesn't help.

PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. Creamy enough on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes slightly dry. Okay here.

OVERALL: This was alright, with some good roasted notes and plenty of sweet flavors that were enjoyable, but the stale coffee aroma and flavor plague an otherwise solid effort. This was fine, but it could have been much better. Thanks again Masterski. Always a pleasure.

(Served in a globe glass)
A- This beer pours a thick opaque black body with a thick deep tan head and a matrix of microbubbles trailing up the side of the glass.

S- The rich coffee aroma and black malt have an earthy quality to them with a cream note and mellow char in the finish.

T- The big roasted coffee malt has some earthy black graham notes and a dark fruity ester in the finish. There is a nice soft sweetness and some tartness that lingers after that.

M- The medium mouthfeel has a gentle finish with no alcohol heat.

O- This beer is a nice rich full stout with some good hints of sweetness and no bitterness or harshness. I couldn’t find many of the flavors described on the bottle but it was very drinkable none the less.

A meal in itself. Almost perfect balance of bitter chocolate and some sweetness. Black with some head, bittersweet chocolate aroma. Smooth mouthfeel. Incredibly drinkable. Fresh bottle from 20 west. Nicely hopped, being picky I would ask for a little more hops - but that's just to make it perfect for this day and mood.

650 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Pours black, shy of inky. Small khaki head. Thick collar. Wispy swirls on the surface.

Smell - Rich dark chocolate. Some burnt roast. No lactose, which surprises me.

Taste - Lactose makes an appearance right up front. Then the chocolate sets in. Great rich chocolate. The burnt notes come back too, which is a little odd. Lactose comes back in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Thick and not overly sweet from the lactose. Good body.

Overall - Tastes great, which I don't often think of milk stouts.

Black with a thin layer of tan mocha foam on the surface. A little bit of wispy skim and lace present.

Creamy feel with some light acidity from the roast malt. Residual ashy char, green hops buried underneath. Smells very malty and roasty, a little bit of coffee and blackened malt. Dry finish with a light bitterness. Very smooth any creamy from the lactose, though the acidity trips it up slightly. Slightly sticky on the lips though not overtly sweet, well balanced with the bitter roast. Overall a nice milk stout from 18th Street, worth trying.
