I went to Umami Burger last night with a big group while in town for a convention. It's a nice place.

6 handles including 1 cider. About 12 bottles also available. Some good stuff in there; Yeti, Racer 5 and Rare Vos on tap, and no more than 1 bottle for a given brewery. As another reviewer notes, draft beers are mostly served in cheater pints, although Yeti was served in a decently sized and attractive tulip.

Not worth going to just for the beer, but the food, service and ambiance are outstanding. Great restaurant, just not a beer destination.

Umami Burger has made it to Orange County, and yet, what is it? I'm aware of its success in Los Angeles, and having it sit just a few feet from Ananheim Brewery means that I don't need to go out of my way for my first visit to one. It shares the same Packard building as Anaheim Brewery, seperated by a wall and glass window which you can actually see into the brewery. The interior is rustic, and there's a rectangular bar which sits right in the middle of it.

The bartender was not only very welcoming, but also eager to talk up the Umami Burger concept; what type of meat is used, what type of bread is used, noting all the sauces are house made. This made me even more excited when the burger arrived with my side of tempura onion rings. Extremely juicy burger, topped with stilton and port marinated onions. What a great meal that was! But it was made better....

A brewery next door wasn't enough. Umami Burger hosts 6 taps and 12 bottled options. While not large in selection, the picks were good, and two of the three burger combos actually come with beer. On-tap; Yeti Imperial Stout, Kona Golden, Drifter Pale Ale, Racer 5, Allagash White, Old Chub. Bottled; Allagash Curieux, Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout, Chimay Blue, Delirium Tremens, Anaheim Amber, and several more options (Singha was the "worst" that I saw). The Allagash White I got was fresh and delicious. Only cheater shakers for the pours, I'm curious if there's a second glass used for the Belgians.

Great place, but it will cost you. Burgers are a la carte and typically cost $11-14, and they're not large ones. Drafts are $7, and are served in cheater pints, meaning a pint runs for $8. That said, there is a weekday happy hour, when drafts drop to $5, and sides (fries, onion rings) are half-off. I'll be back for sure when I have few extra bucks to spend.
