Honestly, I know that officially this is an IRA (Imperial Red Ale), but as far as I am concerned and for all intents and purposes this beer come in 2nd on my IPA list right now, just behind Ruination from STONE.

It just has everything a good IPA should have, aroma, color, depth and complexity of taste, and of course a 110 IBU count, it however also mixes in a few traits of the red ale style to balance it out. This beer comes in at #4 overall on my personal beer list at the moment. LOVE IT.

A well balanced imperial red that hides it's 8% abv well. There's a nice spicy, almost Belgian like nose to it although very mild. Nice moderate caramel sweetness in the flavor that leans a bit more to the hop side with a spicy, woody, piney, citrus hop presence. It warms nicely and has a slight bitter aftertaste. Clear orange I color with a modest off white head and a moderate carbonation. Overall a nice double red that I would buy again. I have to admit, I like this better from a keg, but the can doesn't fail to please. I'd take a 6 pack to a game any day.

On tap at the Cellar in Blacksburg, Va. Listed as an imperial red ale. Nice red appearance. A very mild and subdued aroma. A hop bomb, the name is accurate. Bitter up front with a sweet malty undertone, excellent balance. Above average mouthfeel, not too thick and not to thin. Excellent ale overall, more like a double IPA. Good stuff.

I was not familiar with the term "Imperial Ale", until now.
The name conjured up every aspect of this Red Hoppocalypse to mind.
The smell begins with muted notes of promise expanding somewhat as it warms.
The taste is a bittersweet hop smack. Also expanding as it wakes if restraint can be exercised.
After receiving a 12oz can as a taster and really being pleasantly surprised , I feel I have been craving more for 2 weeks, just to see if it was real. It was.
Massive creamy head. Heavy lace. Syrup-like yet crisp ,smooth. Pucker Bitter chew -almost super metallic Very tasty and self balancing between its own peaks.
Is wanting more of an Apocalypse even possible?
Well done man.
