The Siberians believed there was a ‘World Tree’ that served as the Axis Mundi, connecting the different worlds through its roots and branches. While this Russian Imperial Stout isn’t necessarily the world’s cosmic axis, it does connect rich flavors in a way to deliver you a cosmic beer.

Thinner looking dark brown with almost no head.
Smell of coffee, chocolate malt.
Taste of coffee, bakers chocolate , slight cinnamon and smoke. Good complexity.

POUR: On draft into a tulip. Enjoyed at MadTree Brewing Company in Cincinnati, OH. APPEARANCE: Dark, black and solid. Off white head which appears thick and rocky. Head retains the thickness upon settling. Lots of glass lacing. AROMA: Chocolate/ cocoa. coffee. sweet cherry. TASTE: Somewhat follows the nose. Dark chocolate. A touch of burnt. Roasty and chewy. Thick mouthfeel and velvety smooth. AFTERTASTE: Somewhat astringent with some latent bitter notes. Chocolate, cocoa, cherries. Not too boozy on the backend but does retain warmth. NOTES: Good brew. Well crafted. Has complexity and well defined flavor profile. RATING/ REVIEW: Very Good/ 4 out of 5.

From the growler via Jungle Jim's in Eastgate in a snifter.
This FINE RIS pours a deep muddled blackish brown with a
fantastic head of khaki foam that settles to a thick ring and layer
showcasing some awe-inspiring lacing. Nose of bakers chocolate,
strong black coffee, moderate herbal hops, strong booze, and a touch
of earthy black strap molasses with dark fruit notes. Flavors exceed the
nose with heavy bakers chocolate touched by char with strong coffee and
notes of toffee and black strap molasses mingling with black licorice and notes
of earthy malts and medium strong herbal bittering hops that present themselves
with warmth. Dark black berry notes and present themselves with warmth as does
more assertive warming booze. Solid mouth feel; full body, medium low carbonation
to keep this beast lightly lively, and a sweet char touched malt forward finish with coffee
and bakers chocolate mingling through the finish with strong booze.
Overall, on of my favorites from the rather hop forward brewery that I never tire of.
Excellent!
Cheers

500 ml bottle, label says bottled on 12/16. Served in a MadTree 2.0 stemless snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about a couple inch tan head that stuck around for a really long time. There's also a good amount of lacing. The brew smells like milk and bittersweet chocolate, roasted malt, dark fruit, coffee and licorice. Taste is pretty much just like the aroma, but with the addition of some burnt/charred malt, cream and vanilla noticeable too. There's a nice amount of both sweet and bitter flavors going on here (probably more bitter than sweet which is fine with me). Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's creamy with a good amount of carbonation. I really enjoyed this stout, I'd buy this again in the future! Bought this bottle as part of a MadTree gift pack with Axis Mundi, Coffee & Cayenne Axis Mundi and the stemless snifter for $29.99.
