Poured from a bomber into a snifter, the beer is a deep, opaque, ruby-highlighted caramel coloring with no trace of head whatsoever. Looks heavy and rich. Aromas of rich, old world fruit sweetness forward, with booze notes, rich honey highlights, oak characteristics, apple and vanilla blend, and hints of maple cream. Smells incredibly sweet and rich. Flavors are rich and roasted forward, with a tangy sweet raw honey backbone, fig and date notes both rich and layered, wood and booze highlights throughout, and hints of maple, apple tart, and pepper spice. Heavy throughout, but the roasted characteristics and spice notes help cut a bit, keeping the beer very drinkable despite it's size. Smooth and heavy bodied, this is full and robust from the first sip to the last drop. The aftertaste is more wood character, with a solid roasting, and a fleeting highlight of all of the fruity characteristics. Smooth, slightly lingering finish, giving you a sense of accomplishment as you polish this brew off slowly. Despite the weight of the beer, it does not feel heavy or overpowering while you are sipping, making it a drinkable beer at any time of year, or for any occasion. Tasty!
