A- Deep rich copper/amber with light tan head and medium fine lacing

S-Citrusy, tropical hops predominate, grapefruit and pineapple.

T-Dominated by bitter hops with a hint of roast malt, very dry and crisp

M-Lighter bodied and low carbonation

O-Great hop aroma, could be a bit more malt sweetness for an amber/red ale.

Pours with an enormous tan head and little body. Reddish amber body, but I've seen IPA's this color.
NIce aroma. Fresh hops. NIce mix of citrus west coast, but also a blending of something a little more earthy - maybe it's a bit of grain with a toasty quality. Soft malt in background.
Flavor is more blended in approach with a solid hop presence but also holding a well heeled malt character. Strong, firm and tasty bitterness on the finish.
Soft and fully moderate body.
Solid. Very solid.
thanks Chuck

12oz bottle with no date... no nothin' but the ABV and the brewery's address. 6pk caught my eye.

look is a chunky orange-red with a big head. smell is malty and savory, with some english-y hops. the taste has lots of savory roasty malts, with an almost rye-like spice and peppery hops.

drinks well above it's ABV - blindfolded i'd say it's ~8%. will be picking this up in the future

Amber red beer with a heavy creamy khaki head leaving thick lace. Smell is pine and rye, dark caramel, and a hint of earth. Taste is lightly pine resin hop light bitterness with earthy rye spice character. Some caramel and biscuit malt build in later. Medium light mouthfeel is a bit watery. Slightly hop forward no sweetness easy enough to tip back and drain.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tall pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a deep and fairly hazy amber red with a moderate amount of bubbles. Solid three fingers of off white head with decent retention. Leaves a lot of creamy lacing around the glass.

Smell: A toasty and earthy hoppy red ale aroma with good hints of caramel and citrus. Earthy and floral hops upfront with hints of grass and spicy pine resin. Citrus hop hints of orange peel, grapefruit, and lemon. Toasted malts with bready hints of biscuit, sweet caramel, toffee, toasted bread, grains, and yeast. A nicely wet and earthy red aroma with good balance.

Taste: Like it smells, a nicely sharp mix of earthy hop notes with a good balance of toasty malts. Earthy, floral, and herbal hop notes with some wet grass and dank spicy pine resin. Juicy citrus hop notes of orange peel, lemon zest, and grapefruit. Bready toasted malt presence with notes of sweet caramel, toffee, biscuit, grains, toasted bread, yeast, and cracker. A pretty solid taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Nicely sharp and juicy. Somewhat oily. Finishes pretty dry.

Overall: A pretty impressive Red Ale from this new brewery. Good sharp and juicy hop presence with a solid caramel malt backing.

Bad Weather Brewing Company, Minnetonka, Minnesota. Windvane Minnesota Red Ale. Alc. 6% by Vol. So, not an Irish Ale? Not an American Red Ale. Just good ol' Minnesota Red Ale, which means??? I guess we'll find out, once I open the damned thing…

Appearance: Dark red, deep and murky, slim, but tight, off-whitish head.

Aroma: malty stuff, some hops, fruity esters. Some bright citrusy hop character mixes in. This is a very nice meeting of malt and hops, good balance, none taking spotlight.

Taste: Huh. That's a hoppy red, all right. The harmonious marriage of malt and hops detected in the nose seeming like it's gong through a stormy stage as it rages in the mouth. (I swear to keep the weather related jokes to a minimum.)
Bit of a dry, copper-y feel in the flavor, as sweet malt is check in check by hops, but in the end I'm not feeling anything especially distinctive results.
Some fruit notes, apple, cherry, and it is tasty, for sure, …however, I'm still on the fence here. There's nothing to not recommend it, but on the other hand…eh.

There's no gobbledygook on the label, but there is on the 6-pack carrier. " Our flagship year-round release WINDVANE stands strong through all types of weather and is a great fit for all seasons. Pouring a deep brilliant red, this is your go-to beer. If you want something hoppy, you definitely have it. America hops give WINDANE a swift bitterness with piney, citrus and resinous flavors. If you want something with strong malt shoulders, you have that too. Roast malt layers add complexity and keeps the beer dry to showcase the hops."

Okay, sure, but still…eh.

Hop froward red ale with a nice dose of piney notes on the aroma and the taste...burnt caramel/toffeish aroma gives way to a slightly spicy malt backing on the taste....medium bodied and comes off slightly unbalanced towards the hop side...nice drinker and definitely a red ale with some hop character.
