A 500ml bottle with a BB of April 2014. Acquired quite a while back from a local off-licence. Described on the label as a milk stout with a chocolaty character.

Poured into a tulip pint glass. A very dark reddish-brown hue that appears pitch black in the glass. Yields a decent head of creamy light-brown foam that lasts for a few minutes before subsiding to a patchy surface layer. Aroma of dark malt with hints of chocolate, mild roasted grain, faint coffee, dried fruit, subtle molasses, ale yeast and a twinge of stewed leaves. Slightly sweet and nicely balanced.

Tastes of sweet, dark malt with a mild finish. Notes of chocolate, roasted grain, subtle coffee, prunes, dried fruit, a hint of molasses, earthiness, ale yeast and faint stewed leaves. Slightly sweet, followed by a restrained, malty bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with pleasant carbonation and decent body for the style. Could perhaps be a shade creamier. Mildly astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of chocolaty malt, roasted grain and stewed leaves.

Rather nice - not a stunner but goes down easily. Looks alright, while the aroma and flavour possess a well-rounded blend of chocolate malt, mild roasty notes and dried fruit. A hint of sweetness seals the deal. Decent body; could be slightly thicker but satisfying nonetheless. Well-crafted and worthy of sampling if you come across it.
