Roger Maris made history when he beat Babe Ruth’s home run record in 1961. He played straight, to the point baseball and wasn’t flashy or boastful. He clocked in, knocked dingers and clocked out. He did his job and did it well. Our Pale Ale intends to do the same. Brewed primarily with Maris Otter malt, Maris* is a down to earth nutty beer made for a day at the ballpark.

From the Brew Box, Bucky selected a 650 ml bottle of Maris Pale Ale brewed by the Left Field Brewery of Toronto, ON. Packaged on December 30, 2016 and 4.5% alcohol.
Maris poured an attractive, crystal clear golden colour topped by 1” of pillowy white head which faded to a thin collar and film, leaving plenty of lacing left down the glass. Its aroma was lemon and lime, with a touch of a sweeter citrus fruit that isn’t quite strong enough for me to pick out. The taste was sweet caramel up front followed by lemon, lime and a hint of mango, with a bitter finish that lingers on the palate. There are elements of both the sweet and bitter here, but the bitter dominates in the end. Maris was fairly light bodied with an average carbonation level and crisp mouthfeel. Left Field hasn’t knocked it out of the park with this beer, but we’ll call it a ground rule double. I would certainly drink this beer again.

Another home run for this baseball themed east end brewery. Totally sesionable with a respectable ABV. Looks great in the glass. Nicely balanced. Refreshing and refined.

Pours gold with modest head and good lacing. Aroma, grassy, bready - flavour caramel some citrus comes through.

A-Deep gold colour with a white head that is not really apparent
S-Feint sweet malt aroma, no hop that I can distinguish
M-The mouthfeel on this beer is perfect for me, on the lower end for sure, but adds to the party. There is a nice body in the mouth from this beer
T-I get a nice bitterness upfront which is balanced yet remains pronounced with the malt
O-I really enjoyed this beer, refreshing and satisfying. Perhaps it was also because it was the end of a tough workday in the sun. Recommend.
