BIG thanks to dmsohyea for once again hooking me up with some great west coast stuff including this one! No freshness info but it was bottled around 3 weeks ago I believe. Enjoyed on 08/11/11.
A - Beautiful beer. Clear bright gold color with a half finger white head. Leaves surprisingly good lacing for an 11% beer.
S - Literally smells like fresh fruit. Grapefruit, mango, citrus, tangerine, wow this is good. Some alcohol and sugary sweet malts are also present in the background.
T - Follows the nose. Incredibly fruity hops. Not overly bitter as I expected from the description on the label. Not much piney bitterness to speak of, it's just some sweet malts, hints of alcohol and a lot of fruity hoppiness. Balanced up front and then a huge hit of grapefruit and citrus on the back end. Finishes with some alcohol burn also.
M - Mouthfeel is perfect. Nice and creamy with just the right amount of carbonation for a beer of this strength.
O - When I saw a "Which is better: Pliny or Expo" thread a few weeks ago, I laughed thinking there would be no contest. But wow, this beer surprised me. Actually holds its own against Pliny which few beers can do. Great stuff here.
