Had this on 2012-03-04 in Lititz, PA. Special thanks to matador677.
A - Lightly hazy, golden-orange with a short white head and moderate lacing.
S - Lots of hop floral, pineapple, grapefruit, pine, oak, lemon.
T - At serving temperature, an initial blast of pineapple juice, orange flesh, grapefruit zest and wonderful, gooey hop bud resins with a vegetal overtone. As it warmed, the subdued malt took on a nutty flavor. The oak, with hints of vanilla, provided some nice tannin tang and balance, the citrus become more nectarine than pineapple. The alcohol is very much in the background for such a high ABV. There's a nice fruity sweetness to balance the significant but not tongue-scrubbing bitterness. All of this continues into the lingering, astringent aftertaste, which is surprisingly dry. Superb.
M - Medium body and light carbonation. Smooth and firm (matador677 suggests added dextrin). Moderately prickly and nicely resinous. A very fine mouthfeel indeed.
O - A magnificent brew.
