Style | ABV
American Double / Imperial IPA |  11.00% ABV

Availability: Rotating

Notes/Commercial Description:
This Hop Monster uses multiple kettle hop additions with the technique of doubling the hop amount each addition (exponentially). Add in the hop back and the continuous dry hopping and your starting to get the picture. The beer is finished off with a "body-bag" sized hop-bag full of hop cones and oak chips. There it ages and mellows, disguising the alcohol content for a double strong, incredibly hoppy, yet drinkable beer.

My second bottle from the Friday release. Beautiful golden color with a rather thin white head that dissipates rather quickly. This beer is very clear and clean looking. The nose s all monstrous hops, I mean HUGE hops with pine resin and bitter citrus notes on the back end. The first impression on the pallette is holy hop monster, hang on baby this is not for the faint of heart. Unbelievably the guys at Alpine have crafted a hop centric beast that is not only incredibly balanced but brilliantly flavorful without any noticeable heat from the 11% abv. There are tons of hops, oak and tropical fruit that just attack your taste buds in an amazingly refreshing way. The mouth is cleaned with great carbonation that leaves your pallette clean and bone dry, no cloying sweetness at all, the finish lasts thirty seconds at least. This is just a freak of a beer. So huge in every way but so drinkable for it's size. I am glad I was able to grab several bottles. This is not an everyday beer but a brew you sit down with when nothing else needs to be attended to. Bravo to the crew at Alpine for crafting another amazing beer.

Got directly from Alpine thru Ummagum - many thanks! Poured from a 22oz bomber into a pint glass after getting to proper temperature. No dating info but picked up day of release. Was a slightly hazy orange color with slight carbonation. It had about a finger of off-white head that slowly settled to a thick collar and thin covering film. Great lacing with plenty sticking.

The aroma was great. Very hoppy from the c-hops and grapefruit with touch of pine but also very sweet from the caramel malt and tropical fruit (mango maybe). Enjoyed the tropical fruit addition and the malt smoothness but wouldn't have minded the balance leaning a bit more towards the hop. The taste follows the aroma and again very hoppy but also lots of sweet. The malt keeps the hop from dominating and smooths out the finish. Again, I enjoyed the taste and scored it to that but was a bit of a letdown on what I expected. The mouthfeel was creamy with good carbonation and a malty/grapefruit aftertaste. The 11% ABV never shows at all in the aroma or taste but you do feel it some at the end.

Overall, this is an exceptional 3xIPA even though it was a little sweeter than I expected. Ignoring expectations, it is an outstanding beer. Very drinkable and flavorwise could be a session beer but the 11% would catch up with you quickly. Very interesting beer and another homerun from Alpine. Rotation - not avail in TX so got from Ummagum and Milt. If here, a couple bottles a year for sure. As is, we'll try to get several each release.

Bomber with huge thanks to BdubleEdubleRUN. Shared with mulder1010 and MrKennedy. Reviewed from scrappy notes.

Bright apricot, clear as, with a white head of about a finger. Okay retention.

Floral potpourri, tangerine, tan bark, massively tangy grass and tangerine. The oak chips give a distinct lifted roundness. Amazing.

Cumquat, rotting mangoes, orange crush behind bucketloads of that virtually indescribable sharp, savoury, vegetal, nutty oakiness.

Big-time chewy body. Medium carbonation with no hint of booze. Deceptively high but unobtrusive bitterness with good length.

Crazy stuff. At times the bracing oak chip character verged on overwhelming, but mostly I loved it.

Thanks to Freddie for this bottle. 22oz drank out of a crappy highball style glass. Living the hotel life this week...

A- Clear, golden color, with a touch of amber. A fairly light white soapy head forms, but falls off pretty quickly. The lacing clings to the sides of the glass.

S- Smells of sweet malt and piney hops. I also get quite a bit of citrusy/grapefruity smells. The hops have a very fresh aroma.

T- Starts very smooth and malty, and transitions to a wonderful complex floral hoppy flavor. Notes of grapefruit and lemon, with more piney resin flavors.

M- The mouthfeel is awesome. Perfect blend of carbonation and body. It just rolls wonderfully on and off the tongue. The aftertaste is prominent, but not overwhelming.

D- It's a little big, but still very drinkable. Everytime I take a sip, it's like a whole new complex hoppy experience. This is probably my favorite of all the Alpine IPAs.

Drank from my Duvel tulip.

Big thanks to Nicks6217

A - Pours a cloudy light Honey colour, with a White head that lines the glass well.

S - Aromas of Pineapple and Honey malt, with a strong hoppy backbone.

T - Strong hoppy flavours, pineapple, blood orange and a strong bitter finish. A nice malty backbone.

M - Medium to full body with minimal carbonation

O - Intense hoppy beer and i'm recommending this as a must try.
