A West Coast IPA that features Amarillo and Simcoe hops "in harmony," giving a light, floral aroma. Duet is nicely bitter with the perfect amount of malt concealed behind the hoppy goodness. Immensely drinkable, amazingly light on its feet.

The smell in awesome...fruity flora citrus hop aroma, clean...very enticing...

Taste is great..clean balanced hops..amarillo and simcoe...nice and piney and orange up front..followed by a nice sudtle bitterness...nice finish...

Mouthfell is pleasing..light, no stickyness..perfect for the style..

So another instant favorite from Alpine!

Super clear light yellow with slight amber color.

The smell is AMAZING. Sweet tangerine with lots of citrus notes.

The taste isnt as sweet at the smell but is still a great sweetness to bitterness ratio. Bitter at first with a smooth very sweet finish. Slightly dry but not as much as a lot of IPA's

A: Very clear light light orange with a long ass lingering froth dome. Poured from a bomber

S: Gorgeous citrus notes that are crisp and cunning like a JCVD spinning jump kick.

T: A wonderfully deep complex hopped up IPA that works so damn well. Oh man its really just so damn good. Badass citrus notes of lemon with a light vanilla tone on the back end.

M: Not extremely dry like other IPA's I've had but this one just seems to full perfectly drinkable.

O: An amazing IPA like all the others from their lineup. A must have.

Appearance- A nice golden, orange color
Smell- Clean Floral and citrus notes.
Taste- One of the most balanced IPAs you can find. perfect amount of hops, citrus and bitterness.
Mouthfeel- Medium bodied and nicely carbonated.
Overall- This one of the better IPAs out there in my opinion. I prefer it over the Pure Hoppiness and Nelson.
This is a smoother, more balanced IPA. Maybe not the best for people that prefer heavy double or triple IPAs. This is one of my absolute favorites.

The only disappointing about Alpine's beers is limited geographic area that I can get them in. Everytime I'm in the San Diego, one of my goals is to get a bunch of these delicious brews in my belly. Arriving at the Stone Anniversary, the guest breweries were alphabetized. Brilliant! Alpine for the start!

Alpine had two of their offerings to taste: this and Pure Hoppiness, so the missus and I got one of each. Later in the evening, with both on-tap at the Liars Club - I got a pint of each.

Duet, new to me, is everything I long for in an IPA: fruity, floral with a generous portion of American hops. Lots of lacing throughout my glass, the bright amber beer had a good sized head. Plenty of hops in the nose, the best type: fruity with a slight pine flavor. The taste was much the same, rounded out with a pleasant malt balancing that limited the bitter bite.

This is an outstanding IPA, of the hundreds that I've tried - this is right near the top.

A bomber purchased from The Best Damn Bottle Shop in San Diego. Pulled from the back from their latest deliver. Served in a pint glass four days after purchase.

Golden, clear, lots of carbonation. The head is a white, fluffy, medium long lived, and leaves lots of lace in its wake. Aroma is predominately grapefruit, then caramel, finally a bit of grassiness. Despite the visible carbonation, the feel is on the soft side with a tongue coating medium-heavy body. The front is a bit salty with the middle through finish a crescendo of moderately citrus flavored hops and caramel malt. Leans a tad toward the dry side.

On tap at O'Briens.

Light white cakey foam head. Strong scent of grapefruit rind and something not quite piney but very hoppy. I'm being greedy when I say I wish there were an even bigger aroma. Flavor is just like it smells. Medium strong hop bite plants this firmly in the IPA range. I tried sniffing for orange but didn't get it. Malt kicks in about 5 seconds later. Clean, hoppy, malty, tons of flavor. Virtually perfect. This is what I strive for in my homebrew!

Nice carbonation and beautiful look. Incredible citrus nose. Oranges. Big time. Grapefruit a galore on the tongue. Nice malts for an IPA but not too much. The hops are incredible - very smooth almost honey like with an easy citrus back end. Just like a juicy sweet grapefruit - not too bitter.

Duet is a highly drinkable and well-balanced American IPA. Great clarity and rustiy orange hue set the nose and palate up for crisp, floral, and citrusy experience. The malt dances nicely with its Amarillo and Simcoe hop profile. I need to discover the story behind the label.

Review #100
A big thanks to Jolijuli23 for this incredible extra! Very generous!

The beer pours a hazy yellowy gold color with medium white foam cap. The head recedes to a thin ring atop the beer with substantial lacing still adhering to the glass.

The smell is quite strong with a big citrus hop nose. Notes of stone fruit abound here with slight hints of lavender and floral honey.

The taste shows off a tremendous hop bill with citric floral notes balanced against a slight sweetness to start, giving way to clean uber-citrus bitter finish. The pungent dry finish literally makes me want to take another drink each time. Lovely stuff!

The mouthfeel is great for this beer. Medium-high carbonation but with a luscious creaminess from the adequate body.

Drinkability is great, as you could easily enjoy 2 or more pints of this without a problem. Clean, bitter finish contributes to this attribute.

This is a great rendition of IPA. Hopheads must seek this out!

On tap at the Saratoga City Tavern 3/31/15. As close as perfect as you can get to the West Coast style IPA. I can't wait for this to get regular NY distro.

A- pours a nice golden hue with a fingers worth of white creamy head.
S- fresh, juicy tangerines, ripe peaches, grapefruit zest, mango, and a nice light bready sweetness.
T- mimics smell, some pineapple in there too. Lots of fruit up front, followed immediately by that hoppy bitter punch in the palette.
M- medium bodied. Coats the tongue as it goes down, leaving a nice hop film over the palette.
O- this is a great beer! Everything I want from an ipa. Smooth, nicely balanced, and very enjoyable.

I’m glad to say that this, my first taste of an Alpine beer, lived up to the hype.

It pours a golden-tan with exceptional clarity. I get a great citrus aroma and some light piney notes. There’s a lively citrus flavor and a light bittering on it. I enjoyed this repeatedly when I found it on tap. An all around well done IPA that hits all the right notes.

Thanks to Thecherryman for making this Alpine bomber a reality, and a super fresh sample at that. Distribution is limited on Alpine, so getting a hold of these despite the 2012 increase in production is a chore unless you live in Southern Cali.

Pours halfway between a clear and cloudy off orange hue with a 1 finger soapy white head that lasts a few minutes, lacing is adequate.

The nose is very juicy in a tropical sense yet there is a distinct malt bill in there that prevents it from being an all out hop bomb. Pineapple, nectarine, and lime tones invite the first sip.
While Duet is a hop forward IPA, there is a terrific balance of bready malts in there with the tropical fruit juciness that just works, plain and simple.

Flavors are matched by the inviting nose: the Amarillo and simcoe hops are well chosen and put forth delicious flavors that are complex and multidimensional. Carbonation is lively and well suited for the style, sort of a medium body that is somewhat sticky and oily.

The aftertaste is pleasant, never bitter or boozy, and lets you know the hop selection was well thought out. Very highly recommended, Duet proves to be tough to acquire given their lack of distribution as are other Alpine offerings. This is a world class IPA I would be glad to drink again, and I am looking forward to the arrival of more Alpine varieties to taste and review.

Thick, fluffy, white head. Light orange body.

Nose is sharp and crisp pine encrusted citrus. Just a smell sensation.

Flavor is top notch. I mean it. There are few better. This is kind of like Pliny juice light. A blend of super light, but still slightly sweet malt, with a hop blast that strips the enamel off your teeth without ever going overboard.

Mouthfeel is tart, tangy, low carb, stripping.

Overall is tops, just a truly great beer.

This beer is heavenly! Top five ipas I've ever had and possibly the best smelling one yet. Pure melons. Taste is melon, orange rind, tropical fruits and a nice dose of Piney bitterness. It has a dankness to its finish that's just amazing. Top top ipa and a must try for sure.... have recently had the green flash brewed version and it is still very good but not the same beer as the alpine version. Can't change my rating because the first time on had this beer it was life changing.

Pours a clear bright gold. Nice bubbly head. Smell is amazing. Vibrant tropical fruit. Lots of citrus, all hops. Great. The taste is fruity, only slightly bitter. Grapefruit, citrus, bitter rind. Their is a lemon flavor that is dominating the aftertaste. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, decent carbonation. This is a very juicy ipa, with a lot of lemon flavor. Very nice and smooth.

On-tap at Blue Palms,

A: Pours golden with a nice white head, some lace.

S: Fragant pine and cedar hops, tropical notes, robust.

T: Incredibly tasty and interesting, an amalgam of great hop character, from pine/wood to tropical fruit - pineapple and guava. More flavour than 90% of the DIPAs I've had, truly wonderous. I'm in Simcoe heaven rigt now.

M: Chewy and resiny with hops, but has a lightness and crispness about it on the palate which makes it very easy drinking.

D: One of the best IPAs I've ever had, a must try again if I ever see it on tap. This beer is beautiful, my new favourite IPA I think, just wish it was more available.

Thanks to MaltMilkshake for the bottle. 22oz. bomber poured into a Dogfish Head IPA glass.

A: Deep golden color with a quickly fading white head.

S: A mostly citrus/fruit juice smell upfront, with notes of pineapple, orange, and grapefruit.

T: Annnd there's the fruit juice. Mango, pineapple, and even some green apple shining through with the usual citrus flavors. Nice malty notes on the backbone. Not overly hoppy, but an almost perfect balance between the hops and malts.

M: Medium-bodied, lower carbonation.

O: One of the better IPAs I have come across. Like previously stated, the amazing balance between the hops and the malts makes Duet stand out. My first beer from Alpine, but definitely going to seek this one out again. Can't wait to open the Pure Hoppiness I have in my fridge...

So glad I live near San Diego where I can get Alpine brews.

Pours a perfect golden clear color with red hues. Very nice frothy head providing sticky lace all the way down.

Aroma is awesome. Not as aromatic as others but still awesome. Lots of citrus and pine.

Taste is awesome. One of the best IPA's out there. I taste some more Nelson hops like their Nelson IPA. But also some cascades and such. Very tasty

Mouthfeel is a little thicker than I think it should be but not much of a problem.

Overall an awesome beer that everyone should try. Trade for it if you have to.

Received Duet and Nelson recently and after trying both I was very impressed with Duet. Quickly became one of my favorite beers and has been seeking out more already. Appearance is a lighter golden clean beer. Smell was very fruity and citrusy. Little bits of mango and pineapple come through as well as some grapefruit but the big smell is orange. Taste was similar to the smell. Lots of orange citrus flavor shines. Tasted like someone dropped an orange in my glass. Mouthfeel was smooth and perfectly carbonated. Very good drinkable beer that had me asking for another bomber.

Drinking this beer to celebrate becoming a Champion on Beer Advocate, and this is a champion of a beer. A beautiful golden amber color, thick tan head, intensely hoppy smelling, powerful, delicious bitterness.

Clear, glowing gold with a firm stand of white foam that lays down rings of lace.

Mmmm...just outstanding from aroma to finish with floral citrus tones, aggressive pine, and background notes of wild flowers, herbs, freshly cut grass. The hops are bright and juicy, clean and crisp, bitter but not harsh. The malt is minimal and only serves as a canvas for the Humulus Lupulus. Nice and dry on the back end letting the hops shine even more.

One of the best IPAs I've ever had. The hops are aggressive, bold, and omnipresent, but polite in the sense that they never become harsh or biting. Simply fantastic.

22oz from a trade, thanks augustgarage! Always there to oblige my hop cravings...

A- Gold, a snowpeaked head that isn't going anywhere. Beer color is actually pretty much a dull gold, but the head is ivory white.

S- Smelled the hops from a mile away. Floral, citrus, no bitter or pine hops, mild mild grapefruit. Smells like Pliny, actually. Ah, west coast IPAs. Mild pale malt is there, adding to the awesome bouquet. Wow.

T- Follows the nose. Bitter, though, more bitter than I would have thought. Still, the orange peel, flowers (lilac?!) and other assorted hop awesomeness comes in right behind it. The malt is nowhere to be found, but that's fine with me... I'm here for the hops!

M- Crisp, clean, with a flavor that explodes in your mouth. Perhaps it seems like I'm gushing over this beer, but I am really digging it.

D- High. If I could, I'd drink a growler of it. Awesome beer, A great flavor profile and a smooth drinkability makes this a no-brainer for anyone looking for some hops. Very enjoyable.

EDIT- I have gotten a bunch of bottles of this since my first review. I am in love with this beer. One of the best from the West, no doubt about it.

Tasted draft at Capone's near Philly and then in San Diego (Not even close - you have to have this on the west coast). Best single IPA I've ever tasted. Seriously - Epic.
