Pours black in color with a small tan head. Roasted malt on the nose with some chocolate, cocoa, and coffee. Bourbon, vanilla, and some oak. Flavor is quite roasty with lots of oak and bourbon. A bit of vanilla, some toffee and molasses, and chocolate. Decent sweetness on the finish.

On tap at O'Brien's

A: Black with a huge tan head. Spotty lacing down the glass. Looks incredible.

S: I get a lot of bourbon, dark chocolate, coconut and roasted malt. A bit of butterscotch as well. Smells pretty tasty.

T: Milk chocolate, toffee, butterscotch, roasted malt, bourbon and coffee. A touch of dry dark chocolate on the finish. Delicious.

From the anticipation of buying it, to the finishing the 22 of it, this beer is amazing. Alpine is really coming along with their stouts and this was no different.

Extremely big bourbon taste to it and they warn you up front it will be just like that. Big and bold all the way thru. I only wish I could have gotten more than 4 at once.

Thanks to ehammond1 for sharing this at DarthKostrizer's tasting.

2012 vintage.

Pours an opaque black with a dark khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa powder, cookie dough, wood, and bourbon. Taste is exactly the same as the smell. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good barrel aged stout with some very nice aromas and flavors.

Bottle (2011)

Thanks for opening this with me, nanobrew!

(Aged for 6+ months)

Nearly black in color, though truly dark brown, with a small dark brown head that doesn't last for long and leaves small dots of stick down the glass.

Unfortunate and distinctly flawed aroma: lots of melted butter and margarine, along with a bit of roast, chocolate, and barrel.

The flavor too is off, with lots of melted butter/margarine flavor, and some barrel character.

Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

An unfortunate, buttery mess.

Thanks Brian (Nanobrew) for this one

App- Medium density brown. A little bit of black to it in the glass. A small head formed and was gone. A couple dots of cling.

Smell- Huge amounts of melted better. I dont like to use the word Diacetyl. The brewer at mother earth may get mad at me. Huge amounts of apple on the nose as well.

Taste- Not very tasty here. A large problem. The butter follows the nose and then the apple comes back. Has a bit of chocolate but I couldnt finish my glass.

Mouth- A light-medium body with a low-medium carbonation. The butter/apple combo gives way to more chocolate.

Drink- Damn it. So off. Like I said. Didnt even finish it.

Thank you Bdige for giving me the opportunity to try this! Pours a pitch black, thick liquid, with a large tan/gray head. Scent is a little strange...slightly tart aroma with some dark chocolate and roasted malt. From the first sniff, I started worrying I got one of the infected bottles. Taste was definitely off. Immediately, I got a tart, burnt charcoal kinda flavor. There was some roasted malt flavors with dark chocolate...bitter dark chocolate. Some strange buttery flavors as well. If there was any bourbon flavor to this beer, I definitely had to search for it. Mouthfeel was medium and lightly carbonated. Drinkability is not very good. Overall, I had very high hopes for this beer. Very disappointed, as there must have been some bugs that got into it and made it develop these off flavors. Had a small sip of it when it was fresh and it was a completely different beer. It is not an undrinkable beer, but definitely not good.

22oz bottle.

Pours pitch black with a big tan head that recedes quickly to a thin cap.

Aroma is interesting and unexpected, and not really in a good way. It's super sweet with butterscoth immediately coming to mind with a combination of vanilla extract, chocolate. The barrel presence is subtle with light bourbon and oak in the nose.

The taste starts with some heavily roasted malts mixed with chocolate and vanilla. The bourbon and oak are definitely there, especially in the finish. But there is also some of the butterscotch sweetness throughout.

The mouthfeel is thin to moderate for the style with low carbonation. Very slick.

I'm not exactly sure this is what the beer was intended to taste like with the diacetyl starting to come out, but I enjoyed it a little bit anyway.

A-Black beer with a big mocha head. Thick tight 1 inch head that settles to a thin layer.

S-Chocolate, sweet bourbon. A little tart in the end.

T-Coffee, oak, dark chocolate and a tart finish, maybe there a little cherry flavor in there.

M-Medium bodied and well carbonated. Dry on the finish.

O-Apparently i love sour stouts. This has been in my cellar since release and it has a pleasant tartness to it. Damn good beer.

into 25cl glass. Thanks to nogidrew86 for this!

Pours a little low-carbed, but still some nice bubbles. creamy head settles to the outside of the glass. Lots of dark fruit and roasted malt. Almost a twang of tartness, very slight though. Sweet bourbon in the nose and taste. Not a ton of bourbon flavor, but I like it. Roast is heavy. Mouthfeel is soft- low carbonation, but still enough to work for the beer. Beer is a little hot but I like a bold beer sometimes. Easy to down the bottle, worth seeking out. I enjoyed this one over about an hour's time.

From 01/02/12 notes. Big thanks to Nugganooch for sending this one my way. Shared with some friends, 22 oz. bottle int a tulip.

a - Pours a very dark brown, almost black color, with one inch of dark tan head, amd low to moderate carbonation evident. Looks great.

s - Smells of roasted malts, dark chocolate, vanilla, very light bourbon, sweet chocolate, and dark fruits. A very nice, balanced stout, though not much bourbon at all.

t - Tastes of roasted malts, sweet chocolate, sweet cream or vanilla, dark chocolate, light oak and bourbon, but again not much. Very nice.

m - Medium body and low carbonation, pretty smooth body.

o - Overall I liked this one quite a bit. I think it is a very nice, balanced American Stout, though it does not have very much bourbon to it whatsoever. I liked it better than their BA Token, though the bourbon came through in that one a little more. Worth checking out as it is just a good stout in general, but if you're looking for a bourbon stout, this isn't for you.

Bottle shared by mdfb79. Thanks Dan.

The beer is dark brown with a lasting beige head that leaves a nice sheet of lacing on the glass. The aroma brings roasted malt, chocolates. Smells like a porter. The aroma is pleasant, though I don't detect a lot of the bourbon character. Light bourbon in the taste, along with a tasty chocolaty roast character. Medium bodied with solid carbonation. Overall, very good.
