American Double / Imperial IPA |  8.00% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
This brew uses several varieties and multiple hop additions to the kettle as well as a large "hop back" to give the bitterness and aroma a start. Plenty of dry hops finish it off and give a big hop bouquet.

Appearance – This is one of the cloudiest IPAs I have ever seen. This is the deep dark murky waters full of sediment. The head was huge, lasting, and lacing. Perfect!

Smell – Man, does this beer reek. The big, strong, floral hops mix with the rind and pine scents to produce a monster aroma. This is making my mouth water.

Taste – Just when you thought that you were going to be slapped by the Godzilla of IPAs, this one steps back and shows some class. It is smooth, creamy, reserved, yet full of flavor.

The profile here is a class act. The hop fullness is complimented by a sharp but unobtrusive pine hop undertone. The hop sharpness picks up strong in the finish, leaving the drinker refreshed and satisfied.

Mouthfeel – Refreshing and almost full in the mouth. This one has not a hint of alcohol. It is creamy smooth like butter.

Drinkability – If it wasn’t for my demanding, share-all-the-good-hoppy-beer-with-me wife, I could chug this all night. This is a masterpiece.

This was on my list of beers to try this year.

Pours orangey-gold with a fluffy head.

This beer is packed with citrus through and through.

The nose jumps out with grapefruit, tangerine, and mandarin orange.

The taste is equally as citrusy with just a touch of sweet, doughy malt and yeast. Once again, if you like citrus, this is the beer for you.

I could drink this often. Very driinkable and has an attractive demeanor. I can't wait to try exponential hoppiness.

Ah yes, fill up your senses with this brew. I often get this in the bottle but found it on top at the San Diego Brewing Company and it really shines on draft. A creamier brew than you expect from an IPA. Nice foamy head that never dies down, producing a long, smooth mouthfeel. Aggressive hoppiness but not to the point where it is just a way to show how macho you are. Bravo, bravo, bravo.

First off, I didn't take notes when I tasted this beer. But it is quite memorable so hopefully that'll be sufficient. From what I remember it was a fine clear light amber color. What was most outstanding was the amazing aroma that simply exploded with hoppy goodness. The body was nicely balanced with sweet maltiness and it finished as spectacularly as it started. This is a beautiful beer.

A - Pours a clear amber color with a finger of off white head. Alright retention and a bit of lacing.

S - Big citrus and tropical fruit: grapefruit, mango, pineapple, lemon, orange. Smells a bit sweet.

T - Nice mix of pine and grapefruit. Medium length finish with some floral notes on top of a very mild bitterness.

M - Prickly carbonation with a nice resinous coating. Medium bodied and astringent on the finish.

O - My first brew from ABC and I wasn't disappointed. Very solid DIPA.

Even better off the tap. The pour and the color were the same as the bottle version. The smell was a bit more pronounced with a little smoother hop scent than the bottle but just as good. The flavor and the mouthfeel were much better on tap. The malty middle came out much more and balanced the beer just enough to make it near-perfect, and the mouthfeel was much more creamy and easy going. A great beer indeed.

A: thick foam head with wicked lacing and hazy golden yellow in color.

S: a blast of hops, slight citrus hints as well tease the senses.

T: an initial sizzle of hops with an aftertaste of tropical fruits.

MF/D: a buzz of carbonation that fades rather quickly leading to a rather smooth swallow.

22oz bombers pours into my glass an impeccable clear golden orange hue, amazing clarity. An inch of creamy white head rises and as it falls it leaves dense patches of sticky lacing. Aromas are evident before even getting close to the glass! Big, brash citric hops show up across the room. Closer inspection brings a cacophony of vibrant citrus, tropical, juicy and resinous green hop aromas out. A sweet caramel malt lies in the background, but hops rule here. Somewhat floral, enticing aroma.

First sip brings a crisp somewhat toasty caramel malt upfront that gets washed over by a solid mix of hops. Leafy, citrus, floral and light tropical flavors move across the palate. Lots of green resinous notes as well. It flows down with a big smack of bitterness that grabs hold. Finishes off with lingering bitterness and floral hop afterthoughts. Good mix of sweetness and bitterness overall. Solid brew.

Mouthfeel is smooth, creamy and medium bodied. Great carbonation makes it go down easy and refreshing. If I could find this regularly it would be a go to brew and I could easily take down a couple bombers. Overall, another solid west coast IPA. I wouldn't say it's amazing and my favorite, but it's a damn good brew that I'm happy to have tried.

Lightly packed foam white head. Interesting patterns form in the bubbles. Body is a lighter yellow color, nice and clear though. Lacing shows up to round it out.

Lots of aroma in this, immediately evident when the cap was popped. Citrus and floral hops dominates with some clean straw aromas come in from the malting. Just pure hops mostly (no pun intended), but doesn't seem overly sweet like many other big hopbombs.

Lots of hops are evident as would be expected. Big, bold, brash hops. Floral and straw hops form most of the flavor in this. Some piney resin finishes this out and leads into the lingering bitterness. A bit unbalanced though.

Mouthfeel is medium. Fair amount of carbonation makes for a nice crispness. Decent drinkability, the slightly unbalanced nature brings this down. If you want straight up hops this is a good choice. Good brew overall...similar to Victory's Hop Wallop to me...

Pours clear copper. One finger white head fades to a thin cap leaving little to no lacing. Aroma is slightly piney, citrusy with some tropical fruit notes. Flavor has notes of grass and grapefruit. Thin to medium body. Not heavy on malt. Moderate carbonation. Crisp, clean finish.

22oz brown bomber. Thanks to xlperro!!

Hazy golden colored beer. Wonderful white foam head; sticks to the glass with tightly laced bubble that retains.

Aroma is pure hops! Fresh hops. Pine, lime juice, herbal, alcohol spice/esters. Notes of bready grains in the background and fresh vegetables. A bit dank. Yeah, dank.

Smooth, even mouthfeel. Lively, prickly carbonation. Tasty malt foundation that's sweet with hints of caramel and a lightly toasted bready flavor. Very dry. Very bitter. Hops have an incredible citrus snap and sharp cheesy edge, followed by a saltiness and some major pine and herbal spice. Mentions of dried wood. Alcohol is noticeable, with warming esters, and kicks in with the hop spiciness. Bready leftovers in the finish, with an edge of raw leafy hops.

Man, this is one hopped-up beer! Gotta love its overall rawness that smacks the shite out of you, but you enjoy it and come back for more. Hell yeah!

Thanks Lou91 for this gem. Powerful, bold and complex hop aroma, reminds me of the first time I inhaled Dreadnaught, you could keep your nose in that glass all day, wonderful fullbodied malt hop combination like you bit into a sweetened grapefruit/orange with a beautiful tongue coating bitterness that urged you to contemplate the artist skills of the brewmaster. Amongst my top 5 IIPA's
