Style | ABV
American Double / Imperial IPA |  8.00% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
This brew uses several varieties and multiple hop additions to the kettle as well as a large "hop back" to give the bitterness and aroma a start. Plenty of dry hops finish it off and give a big hop bouquet.
Draft & 22oz bottles.

Poured from the bottle into a nonic pint glass. No dating on the bottle.

A nice very good consistent tight foamy head is made about three fingers off white in color, sitting on a body of bronze amber. Nice and clear, no visible carbonation anywhere. Some nice lacing is very noticeable on this.

Nose is a big biscuit malt, and dry smelling pine. Very biscuity it seems, real nice. Some fresh citrus orange and grapefruit comes out later after many more sips.

A real simple solid pine rush at first to taste. The palate slowly fills with just a hint of sweetness and caramel, then on the swallow a good portion of resin like feel. Nice texture to this, dry piney tasting hop sense kicks in with further sips. Mouthfeel hits with mild carbonation and lots of thick hop like texture without any syrupy sensations. Some mild orange and bitter grapefruit comes out later.

Overall a great tasting IPA, and another great one from Alpine.

golden amber with a slight haze. off-white head that holds and leaves tons of very pretty lace. nose is sweet, fruity hops with a touch of pine, caramel and fresh wood(?). taste is grapefruity, fruity and piney with some estery notes (a bit of Alpine experience, and I am getting to know their yeast) and very well integrated backbone of sweet bread (not sweetbread, sweet bread) and caramel for balance. this is for sure pure hoppiness flavor, not pure bitterness smack. medium-full body seems creamy, and bitterness just helps amplify, it doesn't kick you in the face. nice, long finish. no unpleasant aftertastes. i am very impressed with the simple beers of Alpine. they just seem like they don't try too hard to "blow your mind", and just give it to you like it is and should be. another pure winner.

On tap at the brewpub, 11/10/11.

A-Pours a clear orange with very little white head and no lacing.

S-Sweet, juicy hops and some nice caramel malt.

T-Sweet malt, piney and resinous hops. Tons of flavor and great balance.

O-A deliciously hoppy beverage.

Thanks to sendsilk for sharing this with my wife and I while we were at Cigar City.

Poured into a Cigar City snifter Matt swiped from behind the bar!

Pours a bright golden color with good clarity and a very tall white head. Awesome rocky lace hangs tightly to side sides of the glass.

The aroma is full of big citrus and pine notes - typical of a well-balanced west coast DIPA.

The taste is very bitter and citrusy. Nice flavors of orange and grapefruit pith. There's a small amount of pine flavor as well, but it seems the majority of these hops were added for aroma. The flavor of orange juice seems to add acidity to the beer.

The mouthfeel was very slimy/mouth-coating surprisingly. Sticky with a hint of booze.

Overall very nice, but I still prefer my Great Lakes region style of IPA/DIPA to the west coast variants.
