This brew uses several varieties and multiple hop additions to the kettle as well as a large "hop back" to give the bitterness and aroma a start. Plenty of dry hops finish it off and give a big hop bouquet.

Pours a clear golden light Amber color. Has an intense piny, resin and bitter hop aroma. Flavor is piny and resin. Bitter hops all the way through. Definitely a dry hoppy aftertaste. Overall this is pretty solid but I would prefer more of a juicy IPA over a dry bitter one

12oz bottle dated 27 APR 16.
Look: Frothy head and amber.
Smell: Pine and grapefruit.
Taste: Super dank, a lot of pine and some grapefruit and pepper at the end.
Feel: More carbonated than I like and has lingering bitterness.
Overall: Solid west coast DIPA.

Look - Golden amber in color - very little head, very little lacing.

Smell - Not as pungent as I expected. Hop forward with a little bit of mango and pineapple. Just because the smell isn't super strong does not mean the smell isn't pleasant.

Taste - Hops, pine, little molasses, little orange and mango.

Feel -Smooth, not highly carbonated for an IPA... thicker mouthfeel.

Overall - Solid IPA

The beer has an orange color. The aroma is resinous paint quality. The taste follows with a lot of bitterness, piney and resinous hop profile, and light paint quality that isn't as bad as the aroma suggested. Barely escapes that horrible taste that masks everything that I find in certain IPAs.

Best by 4/28/16. 12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours a very transparent light copper with a fluffy white head that falls leaving great retention and sticky lacing. Bubbles racing upwards. Great color. The aromas have a nice blend of sweet tropical notes with hints of citrus. Lots of ripe mango. Hints of pineapple along with some orange notes. Some caramel malts in the mix, but the hop aromas shine. The flavors are clean and juicy. Great balance and it's not overwhelming. Solid bitterness, but not brutal at all. More mango along with some grapefruit. Lots of orange. Malts are there giving this one a little bit of sweetness. Pine needles and pine resin is there. Finishes slightly warm, but it's not boozy. Mouthfeel is great. It's full-bodied and very creamy. Fluffy and chewy with moderate carbonation. Very smooth.

Very nice DIPA. It's not in a class of its own, in my opinion, but it's very good. Definitely worth giving a shot.

Had poured on tap at Jack's tap house in Pleasant Hill. Big hoppy floral smell with citrus undertones. One of the best smelling double IPAs. The taste is very strong but falls short of some other double IPAs...and nd can use a little more carbonation as the head disappeared quickly and did not have a full mouth feel

Poured a clear, copper body with minimal head and lace ring. Piney, citric hop aroma that is textbook and enjoyable along with minimal sweetness. Dry, hopped up body with citrus pine oily and hints of grapefruit sweetness. Enough malt to keep beer balanced and a very enjoyable brew.

A: A clear orange/amber with a nice one finger white head that stayed a while. Fluffy lacing.

S: Piney, resin-y with grapefruit and orange.

T: Now this is hop nirvana. A big juiciness with low bitterness. Floral, fruity. Oranges, grapefruit, with a bit of spiciness. I could (and did) drink this one all evening.

M: Medium with medium, creamy carbonation.

O: One of the best IPA's on the market. Glad I got to try (and try again). Life is too short not to drink lots of this killer brew. Recommended.

Pours a slightly hazy dark gold with a frothy white head with great retention.

Nose is delicate and leans more floral than fruity. A touch of clove comes through for me.

Flavor is big and juicy, more fruit than floral and unexpectedly so. Bright, bitter hop profile is fantastic. Finish is delicate and soft, more drying than bitter.

Feel is a touch more abbrassive and drying than I'd like but overall this is a fantastic double IPA I'll definitely be having again.

Crystal clear gold color topped with a head of tightly-bubbled cream that settles to a fine layer. Dank, oily aromatics...piney spice, candied grapefruit, grass, and scallions. Tastes of fresh, green hops: pine, apricot, grapefruit, herbs, and a touch of mango. Lots of green, piney dankness - which I enjoy. Medium bodied with a decent bitterness. Very tasty - no idea how it compares to the original, but this is very good - especially as it warms up.

Best by date of April 27th, 2016.

Appearance - Pours crystal clear and golden orange in color with a half finger of sandstone colored head.Sub-par retention, breaking down to a mostly barren surface with a thin ring of suds bordering the edge of the glass.

Smell - Aroma hits on notes of grapefruit, candied orange, a bit of pine and spice.

Taste - Strong citrus notes of orange pith and grapefruit, with a bit of pine and spice hit at first sip. Moderate toasted malt and caramel underbody. A bit of pith and citrus acidity that lingers well into the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Medium in body with moderate carbonation. This DIPA is amazingly quaffable and dangerous in its drinkability.

Overall - At $17-20 per sixer, it's hard to justify buying when there's so much amazing beer at half the price, but for the occasional purchase this is a nice treat. Rides that fine line between great balance and amazing hop character.

From a growler, pours a really beautiful deep copper-gold, very clear, with a 1-finger off-white head that's nicely dense, but doesn't stick around too long. Just a bit of lacing. With the smell, I'm getting mostly very ripe fruit and an earthy, spicy herbal thing that gets more dank as it warms. Don't get much pine on the nose, in contrast to the taste, which is big and piney, undergirded by a slight malt sweetness, which in turn gives way to a spicy pine finish that is just a bit dry and peppery.

The feel is excellent, with good body and just a hint of oiliness that works great with this beer. Carbonation is low-medium, but seems right on for the style, with enough to add a little acidic tingle that comes in right when the sweetness makes itself known.

This is a really good beer that is just challenging enough to keep it interesting, while remaining well drinkable.

Great looking and confidently thick, robust off white foamy head and subtle lacing top this crystal clear golden beer.

Nose pops grapefruit, some pine and an almost menthol-like essence that makes the nose slightly tingly.

Taste magnificently punched out big grapefruit followed by pine and just a trickle of caramel from the well proportioned malts.

Maybe a touch on the thin side but as a result it is dangerously drinkable. No heat, no alcohol taste and a stubborn earthy bitterness hanging around in the aftertaste with just a faint sweetness.

Yep, this beer is very nice indeed.

12 oz bottle poured into snifter best By dare of April 16, 2015

A: excellent clarity light amber in color looks like a lighter bodied beer soapy head that drops to a film

S: very piney, resinous, light alcohol lots of that solvent pine smell, earthy and a little spicy

T: huge on the tongue a lot of the nose follows very piney, earthy, and just a touch of sweetness but super amounts of piney hops none of the alcohol the nose hints at appears in the taste

M: slick medium feel nice coat on the tongue

O: This is a tasty beer I think I was expecting a fruit bomb and this is 180 degree in the other direction. It is smooth and quite piney but I don't know if I would grab it again. Its just not a hop profile I like, but if you like SN's hop profiles you might love this.

A solid DIPA and glad I tried it. A good balance of hops and malt. Sometimes the DIPA can have too much malt but this one is well balanced. Finishes clean with a warm alcohol feel after drinking. I'd drink it again. Cheers.

Pours a dark gold color with medium haze. Haze clears slightly but not all the way. 2+ finger head is a very light tan color. Head dissipates semi-slow and leaves heavy sticky lacing behind.

Aroma is earthy, floral hops. Some mild citrus bite. Big caramel malt. Some pepper. Pine and grapefruit at the end.

Floral hops on the first taste. Then pine, grapefruit, and lemon. Pretty solid malt bill. Caramel, biscuit, and dough. Pepper, yeast, and bitter orange. Alcoholic warmth at the end.

Medium body and mouth feel. Oily and bitter. Medium carbonation. Flavors and bitterness lingers. A bit boozy for 8%

Big bold West Coast IPA. Packs a punch. Interesting mix of hop flavors with floral, pine and citrus notes blending and competing with each other.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium coppery amber with a one finger white head with good retention and lots of lacing. Aroma of light caramel malt, tropical fruit, orange citrus and mint; lightly floral. The profile seems European with noble hops. Flavor is resinous piney and lightly citrus hops, orange and grapefruit citrus, light tropical fruit. A good supporting malt base, but the malt flavor is masked by the dominate hops flavors. Finishes with hints of caramel malt and resinous, herbal and mildly floral hop bitterness. Really nice creamy body with great mouth feel. A rich, somewhat complex imperial IPA with a really nice hop flavor mixture, not over the top bitter but the hops are intense enough to satisfy, particularly in flavor. The taste combined with the creamy body made this a pleasure to drink.

22oz bottle poured into a tulip, brewed by Alpine

A- pours a crystal clear golden color with a creamy and foamy white head that retains for a while before settling into a film floating on top

S- lots of tropical hop aromas up front with notes of mango, passion fruit, tangerine peel, fresh cut grass & peach. A bit of caramel malty sweetness underneath

T- lots of fruity peach & mango up front with notes of guava and melon, followed by some sharp grassy notes. This transitions into some floral notes, before finishing dry and clean, with lingers of mor citrus fruit

M- medium body and carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that finishes slightly creamy and dry

O- there are very few DIPA's that I catagorize as 'clean', meaning that it's pure hop showcase. PtE is one of those, and this certainly fits that bill as well. Very good overall

Such a nice IPA from Alpine. Lots of piney hoppiness on the nose with a nice clean white head. This one seems pretty well balanced, but does hit you with some residual bittnerss on the finish. Still a fantastic IPA nonetheless.

Look: golden amber hues, a little cloudy, 2+ fingers of off-white head.

Smell: citrusy hops, but toffee aromas are pretty forward.

Taste: citrus and piney resin (a bit), but a significant amount of toffee/butterscotch flavor indicates this may not be uber fresh.

Feel: one thing I personally look for in a DIPA is an oily feel, and this really doesn't have that.

Overall: this is enjoyable, but I'm wondering if this isn't the freshest bottle of this. It's a bit stodgy, for lack of a better term.

I'd like more punch in the aroma, but the hop character is deep and complex, while the body of this 8% brew is dangerously drinkable. I get grapefruit and ground pepper, orange peel. There's more spicy melon in the nose, then the deeper citrus fruit cuts through the flavor. Great beer. So clean and hoppy.

Light copper in color with a fingernail of off white around the rim and the majority of the top. Moderate lacing. The aroma is sweet floral hops and some honey like sweetness. why can't their be an air freshener or fragrance for women that smells like this? I taste aggressive floral hops with a sharp bite. There's light notes of pine mixed in. The mouth is chewy, thick, and full of resinous floral hops.

It's alpine Nelson.
Wine, spivey pungent hoppiness.
Low bitter, lots of aroma and flavor.
Don't need to say much more. Should drink it. It is delicious as you heard.

Drank from 22oz bottle acquired in a trade with SDRedDevil. Poured an amber orangish color with decent lacing. Looks like and smells similar to Alpine's Hoppy Birthday. Didn't like it as much as HB, but I loved that beer and had it fresh on draft. Had it not had to survive appx 4 Summer days working through the mail system, it would likely have been even better. Definitely want to have more of this beer, and hope I can make it out to Alpine to do so. In the meantime, trades will do just fine.
