A 330ml bottle with a BB of Jan 2014. Picked up a little while back from Trembling Madness in York. This is a low-ABV IPA - all the flavour of a regular IPA but with only a fraction of the booze. Summer drinking perfection.
Poured into a Delirium chalice. Bottle conditioned. A hazy orange-amber hue with chunky sediment and medium carbonation. Yields a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before settling as a surface layer. Aroma of fruity hop notes with hints of grapefruit, orange peel, citrus, white grape, tropical fruit, light caramel and earthy yeast. It smells amazing.
Tastes of juicy hops and subtle malt with a light, bitter finish. Notes of grapefruit, orange peel, lime, citrus, white grape, melon, tropical fruit, grass, light caramel, earthy yeast and stewed hops. Mildly spicy, with a restrained, hoppy bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry - hop oils stimulate the palate. Pleasant carbonation and decent body. Slightly astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of fruity aromatic hops, mild bitterness and earthy yeast.
Excellent - tastes like a fully-hopped American IPA. The only sign that the ABV is lower than usual is the slightly thinner body, but even this isn't particularly obvious. It looks great, with an aroma and flavour dominated by bright, fruity hop notes. Decent mouthfeel. A superb effort - would that every lower-ABV brew tasted this good. A hophead's dream; grab one if you come across it.
