330ml bottle bought from Lighthouse Wines, Jordanstown

Poured a deep dark brown / almost completely black colour... Big mocha tan head poured very tight, thick and foamy with a meringue like top.. this faded slowly to good one finger covering... some decent lacing clings to the glass throughout...

Aroma - Lots of good strong toasted bready malts mixed with strong biscuit notes, lots of cocoa, butterscotch, chocolate cake mix, coffee, good roasted nuttiness, nice dark brown sugar / molasses sweetness, light fruits (blackcurrents, apples, prunes), earthy, some sooty traces...

Taste - Pretty much as above only spicy peppery hops maybe more noticeable, some grassy and earthy notes, lactose, toasted brown bread, faint trace of alcohol, quite sweet... good bitterness coming through from the roasted malts...

Feel - Fairly smooth and creamy... medium / full bodied... at 7.4% this is a dangerously drinkable brew...

Overall - A supremely well balanced, full flavoured and drinkable stout... another world class brew from Siren...

On-tap. Tasting glass @ Freiburg (Barcelona). Pours black in color headed by creamy foam. Tan crown is lasting & thick layered. Wide rings are left on sides. Milky chocolate, biscuit, dark fruit, herbal & subtle mocha aromas rounded by hints of muscatel. Very smooth & flavorful upfront –as expected from aromas. Full body. Soft carbonation. Velvety & unctuous palate. Increasing alcohol hues display notes of anise & herbs, hints of muscatel raisin & wood. Gentle hoppy -just to balanced- sweetness are reinforced by dark cocoa bitterness & linger into a sweet finish. Slight prune on the aftertaste.

Jet black with a dark brown head. This looks like a Russian imperial stout.

The aroma is of milk chocolate, vanilla and sweet lactose.

The taste is very sweet! It tastes like a Caribbean milk stout such as Dragon Stout or Stallion Stout. There is perhaps a bit more depth to this as it has a nice coffee bitterness and a chocolate cake like tatse.

Overall, a smooth, creamy, sweet milky stout. Maybe it's a Foreign Extra stout? One could argue it is a touch too sweet and I for one would prefer a Guinness Forein Extra for a stout of this strength as I prefer the roasted bitterness of that beer. This is clearly a good beer but I wasn't entirely convinced I liked it much more than a macro brewed Dragon Stout from Jamaica.

My mark out of one hundred would be 80.

A - This looks like a cappuccino. Jet Black with a milk chocolate coloured 2 finger head. Lovely.

S - Coffee. Tons of coffee. Just what I like in a stout. I love coffee. Also getting the wood. Raw cocoa as well.

T - Sweetness upfront, followed espresso. Dark chocolate. Cream. A little vanilla. A lovely, typical stout finish.

F - Awesome. Level of carbonation is perfect. Very creamy mouthful.

O - A great beer from a great brewery.perfect after dinner beer. Get some Bournville old Jamaica chocolate to have on the side with this. Excellent beer.

Thick and black, with a tall but short-lived demerara-brown head. The aroma punches well above the beer's weight, with spades of rummy booze, coconut, dark chocolate, brown sugar, and DFH Palo Santo Marron-esque woody, tarry resin. Cake indeed. The flavor is sweet but not syrupy, which is nice; dark chocolate, black cherries, licorice, dark rum, raisins, and Japanese sweet black beans all come to mind. It's so heavy I can almost feel it when I lift the glass, but some savoury notes and a sharp, dry finish reminiscent of really good espresso helps prevent this from being disgustingly cloying. A damn good beer, and especially impressive considering it delivers the flavor impact of a much stronger imperial stout. Possible food pairings: salted caramel, brownies, very dark game meat, Nutella, blue cheese.
