Been to this place a few times before, as I have family that lives in Abington. I am noticing some not so good reviews ahead of me, must say that unfortunatly they are correct in some aspects. There are about 24 Beers on tap, mostly Domestics, but not much in the way of craft beers. Seems there selections on tap have changed quite a bit over time as well, based on what others have posted for reviews. There is about 10 Beers avaliable in bottle, mostly your standard domestics like Bud and Miller. Not great place to try craft beers. Food and service were ok, nothing special but it was good. Atmosphere there has never been that of what I would assoicate with an "Ale House". There are a lot of glass figures on the walls, like clowns and minitures. Not what I want to look at when out personally, or ever for that matter. Now that I have gone a few times over the years, I can safely say it is not my first choice for the area. But if my family chooses to go again I will not complain too much.

Why this place ever got approved as a beer bar on BA amazes me....

I've been here a few times and each time I've come away with the impression that this place could be so much more...but falls short.

For a place that purports itself as an "Ale House" it's a bit of a mis-nomer...they serve every BMC product you can think of, plus every large/regional New England brewery's flagship (nothing special). However, all the South Shore local yokels seems to be guzzling BMC so I wonder why they even bother. And with the amount of Miller signage on the patio....makes you wonder where there focus is, if it's not already obvious.

Atmosphere is MEH (think Friday's with the cheesey paraphanalia nailed to the wall) and the food is forgettable. The Sysco truck makes regular stops here apparently. The fact that the Phantom Gourmet/Andelman regime gave this place a glowing review should speak volumes....

If you are in Abington and have no other choice, by all means take your chances with a Long Trail Ale and pray that it isn't stale. Otherwise avoid.

Dropped by Abington Ale House on this crisp Autumn Saturday evening. There was a 20 minute wait to sit inside, so we decided to sit outside on the patio. The patio was fairly crowded as was most of the restaurant and bar area. The whole place is rather spacious and spread out quite well.

The patio has a cool vibe with tables, a bar and heaters to keep people comfortable on a cool New England night. There are also flat screen TV's.

As far as beer selection goes, you can expect 24 taps and about 11 bottles. Draft highlights include Otter Creek Copper Ale, Long Trail Ale, Long Trail IPA, Anchor Steam, Harpoon IPA, Sam Adams Boston Ale, Sam Adams Lager, Sam Adams seasonal and Sea Dog Blueberry. Drafts come in either 25 oz or 16 oz. The 25 oz beers were served in Abington Ale House mugs. I read in one of the other reviews that customers were only able to order certain beers on the patio, it appears this has since changed.

The food was pretty good - solid pub food. I ordered an appetizer special and a fiesta taco salad. All the food was good, especially the salad. Portions were favorable as well. The service was attentive and responsive. All in all a restaurant that offers tasty pub food with a slightly above average beer selection. A good place to check out if in the area, but not a craft beer destination.

I've visited this location two times and came away with the same thought both times.

I almost like it a lot.. But not quite.

It's a combo of a large bar/restaurant and an outdoor beer garden/tent.

The only problem is that their Miller distributor helped them pay for the tent/garden. So as a result they only serve limited beers out in this area.

They have a much better selection of beers on tap at the regular bar. But if you sit outside you have a choice of Miller Lite or walk to the bar and get one of the better brews yourself.
Rather annoying when you are presumably paying for the table service.

They have about 8-10 beers on tap with a few good selections.

Bottom Line - if you are in Abington, give it a try. Otherwise don't drive out of your way.

Located nicely on Route 18 on the border of Abington and Weymouth.

It is both a bar and a resturant which are separated from one another through the front lobby area.

Their clame to fame is that on your birthday, your meal is completely free. Unfortunately for myself I think it is closed on my birthday (July 4th).

The food, if I remember correctly, is good, though I haven't had a sit-down meal there in a few years. Recently, I have been enjoying the bar-side of the establishment.

Now, throughout the place there are tacky things all along the walls, like a chain resturant, such as the 99. But the lighting is very nice, not too bright, not too dark. There is a huge bar, with plenty of seats, booths, and some large tables by the back where the largest TV's are. I have never gone there and not seen a good amount of people, so the atmosphere is always pretty good if not hopping.

The beer selection is average with the usual BMC, Sam, Sam seasonal, Harpoon, Guiness. But they do have some Sierra Nevada, and an Ale entitled "Jeff's Brew". I inquired about it and was told it was from Ipswich. I took notes on it and everything, but upon trying to find it on this site was unsuccessful. If anyone reading this might know anything, please message me.

The bartenders are friendly, though they are often too busy to stop and chat with you.

A nice place to go and just grab a drink with some friends.

The bar is off to one side, with a huge 4 sided bar. The restaurant looks like eight grandmothers pooled their nicknack collections. Any random thing, in any random size is likely to be on the walls, including several non-politically correct 30's era mammy/crazy jazz musician figurines. Setting off the collection is a stuffed timber wolf. And no I wasn't drinking before I took these notes, I wrote this before my first beer arrived.
The service is fast and friendly, but not really 'beer bar' quality, good for a restaurant however.
Good selection, heavy to the New England macro side, a few Harpoons including the 'rarer' ones, 3 Magic Hats at all times, Newport Storm, plus larger nationals like Sierra Nevada. They even carry Sam Adams Boston Ale. A private label beer and cider finishes off the beer menu (I'm guessing Boston Beer or Harpoon).
The burgers are ok, but go for the "homey" meals like chicken pot pie and meatloaf.
