Not the biggest tap selection but that's alright. They always have great variety in their taps especially local selections from Texas. They get limited release bottles, have a good patio and have a friendly staff

Awesome spot in an otherwise lack-luster craft beer city. Also, it's just across the tracks from Alamo brewing, so you can walk on over with a buzz.

I was aware of this place for a while before I had a chance to check it out. It was a week night and there were only about 10 customers inside when I was there, along with several other customers who came and went after filling growlers to go. It is a very basic interior; kind of college dive meets industrial park simplicity. There are only a few tables and chairs, giving the impression that it really is primarily a place to fill your growler to drink elsewhere. The restroom was clean and neat. The bartender was knowledgeable about beer and helpful with making choices. They had 20+ taps with a good selection of craft beers, including some unusual regional, barrel aged and sour varieties. There was also a small refrigerator with some bottles of unusual beers, mostly from Texas. Prices were reasonable and varied by beer. Overall, this is a good place to go for a growler or a quick drink in the North part of town.

The place to go in San Antonio for beer, particularly if you like darker beers (at least for their current selections). All the selections are true craft brews with many local to TX. Patrons were friendly as was the server. Readily provided tastes to help with your decision making. Server also readily answered questions on the different choices. Will definitely return. Only downside is the total lack of food, not even chips or pretzels. That is the only thing I would change. The place is not fancy and is not a sports bar. You go here to sample and drink good craft beer. Check it out.

Swung into Big Hops the other day to fill a growler of my own and to buy one for a buddy who was unfamiliar with the growler scene (shameful, I know). This place had been open for several months before I finally got around to stopping in. I should have gone sooner, but you know how things go.
First off, Big Hops is in a very small strip mall off north Broadway, just inside Loop 410. Very little parking, although I didn't have a problem finding a spot. The place itself has very little atmosphere. It's very sterile, with the bar and taps directly ahead of you as you walk in, and some tables and window bars off to the side. Not much seating, so if it was crowded you might be out of luck. Then again, if it was crowded, it might add to the ambiance. Who knows. Still, the layout was basic and unimpressive. More functional than aesthetic. And smaller than I envisioned. But the tap selection was nice. Lots of nice Texas craft beer on tap, with a smattering of quality crafts from other states as well. The guys working there seemed fairly content to engage their regulars in conversation than to focus on the new guy, which was fine with me. When I did need some help they were courteous and helpful. I don't know if they served food, and I didn't ask, so I can't comment on that.
I'm glad this place exists, and I hope they make it. I'm not sure what the market is for a growler station in San Antonio, but I wish this place well and will definitely revisit Big Hops in the future.

Great place to try beer from Texas on draft.
Service is excellent and the folks behind the counter know their beer.
I go to Texas for business a lot and decided to check this place out on my own and immediately felt very welcomed and met some new friends.

Friendly staff with a decent selection of craft beer on tap for growler fills. They sell growlers there so that you can pick one up to go if you a) don't have one or b) forgot one.
It does get crowded but there is a very family style feel to the place. They are also pretty good about rotating their selection.

Pretty cool place. I went by the other day at about 2:00 and it was pretty crowded. I can see how at 5 or 6 it would be packed. I hope they plan on expanding when they can, but they are still new so I get it. I will definitely go back for another pint or two.

A great place to grab a growler fill or a bottle. Very good selection of beer on tap with a focus on Texas beer. The people behind the counter know how to talk beer with both BAs and the macro crowd. No beer snobs here, thank God.
If you want to grab a bottle, there is a cooler with a small but well thought out selection of beers to go. There are also a few tables if you want to hang out for a while.
The location on Broadway right off 410 makes it pretty easy to get to. Glad they are here and I hope to visit often.

Opened rather recently, was pretty excited when they did because I haven't been able to frequent a growler station so close to my house before. They have 23 rotating taps of probably 80% (maybe more) Texas brews at any given time, and they do a good job of constantly rotating a pretty good variety of beers as well as keeping some beers more constant. The bartenders I have encountered are both very knowledgeable about what they are selling; they are a great help and are fun to just talk about beer with. They sell growlers, half growlers and pints, and they also have a few bottles (I remember a couple Dogfish Head and Jester King offerings) and I think a few 4-6 packs. Pretty sweet beer-drinking environment; relaxing and is a pretty nice place overall. On Broadway really close to 410. Satisfied with this place overall and they will continue to get my business.
