Yesterday was my first experience with Spokes on Southern. This was a fantastic choice for lunch!
I came in after hearing that a beer I wanted to try was on tap, so when presented with the choice to go there for lunch with my wife (who isn't the biggest beer drinker, but understands my love for great beer and beer bars), we went. This was a great place to go.
When we walked in, we were greeted within 1 minute of entering during a busy lunch time. The bartender (who was also our server) came over to directly greet us and ask us how he could help us. My wife and I gave him our drink orders and I asked him about the beer brand I wanted to try, the new Huss Brewing from Tempe, AZ. He IMMEDIATELY knew the brand and which beers were on tap, knew the styles by name and quite a bit about the different beers. This is in addition to the large number of other beers on tap - this is a fantastic selection.
Our drinks arrived quickly, our food was ordered and my wife was smiling the whole time. She was enjoying the atmosphere, the service, and the great variety on the menu that wasn't just a normal burger or taco. Build your own Grilled Cheese with three different cheeses AND your choice of two other items to add? Tomato Basil soup? Nice to see and even better to taste.
My beer: Huss Brewing Amarillo by Morning IPA. Great IPA, smooth and malty. Loved the sessionability of this beer. Beer came in a standard pint glass, very clean and not chilled. Glass hung with brewer's lace nicely during my meal and reminded me that it is nice to enjoy a beer in a place that takes care to serve beer the right way.
Our service throughout the experience was great, the manager came out to greet us as well and thank us for trying them. This is the type of place you want to come back to regularly (and I live about 15 miles away).
Something I didn't see (but also didn't ask) was what their selection of bottled beers was like. I have no idea what they do/don't have. This might have been their only miss to me.
One final note - a young homeless man came in, very polite and quiet. He sat down at the bar and was promptly given a glass of water. He just sat quietly and was treated like any other customer and not shunned, shoved out, or treated poorly. Someone else in the establishment provided him a meal for lunch and again, he was treated just like any other customer. This tells me a lot about the people that run and work in the place and the customers that call Spokes on Southern home.
Support these folks. I know I will.

I encourage those of you who reviewed spokes in early April to come back and see the changes. Since they got new management over the beer selection and kitchen both have dramatically improved. This week the taps featured Speedway Stout, Alesmith IPA, Mission Shipwrecked Double IPA, Borderlands Noche Dulce, Sierra Nevada Hoptimum, Firestone Pale 31, Left Hand Milk Stout, Oskar Blues G'knight and that's just this week. Speedway should say it all. They also have Bells Two Hearted on constant rotation with Kiltlifter a local staple. 23 of the 24 beers on draft are $3.50 right now with Hoptimum being the exception at $5.25.
The atmosphere is upscale but unpretentious and the Pond on the patio is packed with wildlife and a great place to have a summer brew. Hope to see you there so you can give it a second chance.

Only been here once, it was late on a thursday only a few weeks after opening.
Large restaurant style with PLENTY of seating.
We were greeted promptly by the bar staff, he was friendly and seemed willing to help.
Wasn't very impressed with the selection (comparing to B.o.B.) of draft brew. I just had a basic craft IPA that I can't even remember along with my lady friend. We only had those drinks and then left.
We felt this place was lacking some character and also mentioned in a previous review, more "serious" beer selection. I'm certainly no snob but I'm also looking from something I can't get in the local grocery store, and at that particular time, that wasn't the case.

Total pedestrian beer list comprised of a lot of entry level craft beer. Not really a place for the hardcore BA person. Service was horrible but I think it was just single server related as the guy we had was just clueless. He couldn't get any of the orders straight and when the bill arrived it was all mixed up also. Talked to the manager, it seems they fired the original bar manager that was brought in for his beer knowledge and he was replaced by the kitchen manager. Not a good sign.

Boulders on Broadway owner opened this place and it's off to a good start. Enjoyed a nice pint of Bell's Two-Hearted on my first visit, followed by Honker's Ale. I remember coming here when this was a brewpub in the 1990's.
They had 24 craft taps and there were a lot of good options. Tap list is on their website which is convenient for checking beforehand.
Atmosphere was more restaurant-like and that's a plus for me, though there was plenty of music and people playing pool. Lot of twentysomething customers here.
Service was prompt and polite. Parking is good. Very convenient off of hwy 60.
