Not insignificant amount of sediment. Good head. Dark nut brown color. Not enough on the appearance to fully offset the sediment.
Typical quad profile: yeast, Candi, dark fruit, nuts. Very good, and very complex aroma.
Medium-high sweetness for a quad - it would have been surprisingly so, if I hadn't rated this blind. Tons of dark fruit: plum, prune, raisin. Liquorice and nuts.
Feel is pretty full-bodied, smooth, and lively, with no sting.
I'm curious if my opinion of Westy XII would have changed if I hadn't had it blind. As it is, I put it right up there with Roche 10 (I think my ratings will place it slightly below, actually). It's fantastic: sweet, tasty, complex, and impressively drinkable. This beer is absolutely everything it's made out to be and should be.
