Poured into a Westvleteren chalice. Soft off-white head floats upon a tawny hued ale. Soft notes of fruit and earth waft up and invite the first sip.
Rich fruit upfront. In particular, raisins predominate. A touch of "fruity leather" and candied ginger makes for a novel flavor profile. Very interesting mix of phenol, pepper, star anise, and cinnamon toward the finish. Compact, tight bubbles comprise carbonation, and with each sip, they provide the right amount of tickle and lift to a very complex, round ale.
Finish is clean and powdery dry. The carbonation makes this ale deceiving as this does not drink like it is 10.2% ABV.
Bring on the roasts and lamb. Overall, this is delightful. Way too expensive for regular enjoyment but great for special occasions (or needed moments of joy).
