Thanks to Don (digita7693) for acquiring this (and Westy 8) for a rare beer tasting.
A - Pours a deep, dark brown...not at all what I was expecting. Very nice tan head sits atop the beer.
S - caramel, brown sugar, raisins - very complex. Many smells going on here.
T - It's as good as the best amber Belgian I've tried. It's just a tad hot tasting, but not too bad considering it's 12%. Other tastes are caramel, brown sugar....just like the smells.
D - OK - so it's very drinkable. I was super exited to try it. However, I think if it were easier to obtain, it might not hold the position of top beer in the world. Something to be said for having to call the monastery for an appt, hoping you get through, and then picking it up. A treat to try for sure!
