As with the Westy 12, thanks to Thijs Brabander for helping me to procure this amazing beer. I opened this beauty up for my 2nd wedding anniversary (felt that drinking a great "dubbel" was appropriate for this day).
A: Poured into a Trappist Westvleteren chalice. Heavy carbonation is apparent. 2 finger thick white head that dissipates relatively quickly. Rich, dark brown in appearance. Looks similar to the 12 in my opinion.
S: Delicious yeast and sweet, dark fruits predominate. Undertones of fresh baked bread. No hop aroma detected.
T: Amazing. Like the nose, heavy yeast (although not as heavy as the Westy 12) and dark fruits predominate. Sweet on the tongue. No hop bitterness. A little brown sugary/molasses ending. Delicious.
M: Easy drinker with only the 8% ABV. Love the yeasty sweet aftertaste. My only gripe, if I have one, is that I actually wish it had a little less carbonation.
Overall, this is by far my favorite dubbel. I haven't had many that didn't leave a lot of banana aftertaste. This one doesn't...and that's why I love it. Glad I have 2 more saved up for other special occasions. Truly an amazing beer.

I initially tried this along with a Westvleteren 12 and a Rochefort 10.
Poured into a new belgium tulip to reveal a thick, foamy head. The aroma reveals some citrus notes. It is decent dubbel that is easy to drink, but doesn't exactly stand out.
I would struggle to identify this in a blind taste test against other belgian-style beers. I can't see any characteristics that explain what makes it unique. I have a feeling that I should not have tried it alongside the other two quads as they seemed to over power it a little.
Edit: Tried it again at Abbey St. Sixtus along with the 12 and the Blonde and this was my favorite of the three. Definitely better this time around. Loved it.
