This place is an absolute must try if you are in Greenville. The downstairs was for dinner, but had a decent sized bar with 30+ taps and a nice atmosphere. The downstairs bar was connected to the outside seating, which was right on a busy street with lots of people-watching. Upstairs had another 30+ taps and all the bar games you would hope for including pool, darts, foosball, and shuffleboard.

I sat upstairs (will be back tomorrow night to check out the beers downstairs) and was blown away by the service. There was only one bartender so he got busy on occasion, but he knew everything about all the beers on tap and had extra info to share with me.

I have only seen a handful of bars that had a better tap selection than Barley's. On tap was: DFH Midas Touch, Punkin and Palo Santo Marron; Great Divide Yeti Espresso Oak Aged Stout and Titan IPA; Bell's Two Hearted; Unibroue Trois Pistoles; Along with multiple selections from Rogue, Southern Teir, Terrapin, and others.

I didn't try the food this time, but will certainly be back tomorrow and the next day and will report back.

If you end up in Greenville, please give this a try. I live in Columbia and have been hoping to get to this city.... now I have a huge reason to visit again.

Well its time to review Barley's..This is hands down my favorite place to eat and drink in Greenville. You have to keep in mind the cap in SC. With that in mind they still fill that place with over 120 brews! Great selection downstairs with taps and tons of bottles. My favorites to get in there are locals from Foothills(Hoppyum) and they had Brutal Bitter on tap from rogue last I was there as well. Upsatirs is even better. Smaller amount of taps, but pool, games and a very chill atmosphere. Food is awesome. Pizza all the way, and its not a bad place to bring the kids either, especially with Greenville going smoke free in 07. Now they have no spirits here only food, beer, and wine. Service can sometimes be slow, but they are always busy. Overall I try to go at least once a month if not more, great place!

Barley's Taproom has a cult following in the Greater Greenville area for Beer Geeks. With over 70 taps and 150 bottles, the selection is unmatched in the area. The wait staff is well educated and knowledgeable on current offerings.

Barley's offers regular tastings of rare casks, seasons brews, and just plain good beer. These, along with the seasonal Beer Dinners, make Barley's a favorite hangout for anyone remotely interested in good beer.

Check the online beer menu, as it is kept up to date. They go through taps rather quickly, so the paper menus are often out of date.

This is the place for beer in Greenville. There are two floors downstairs is open for lunch and dinner with tables outside and a long wall of taps. Upstairs opens in the evening and has a smaller tap wall with billiards and darts. The tap selection upstairs and downstairs does vary so check out your menue or ask your server. The beer selection is the best and they offer just about anything your heart could desire. They also frequently change some of the line up. They also host a lost of events with terrapin and Harpoon. Last but not least the pizza is the best in town.

I can't believe I've never reviewed my favorite hangout, so here goes.

Barleys is set in a old building with a bar and dining downstairs and pool tables, darts and a shuffleboard type game upstairs. No food upstairs but beer of course. If you're like me and like to watch sports while out there aren't but a few TV's but I'll sacrifice that.

I've had almost everything on the menu at one time or another and the food is excellent. I do think they could use some more appetizers on the menu. Pizza is the specialty and they do it well, my fav is the BBQ chicken on wheat dough. But they have a lot of toppings many you wouldn't expect. The Philly cheesesteak is awesome I subistute portabellos for the reg. mushrooms.

The crowd is very diverse and kid freindly which can get a litle loud at times lol. I've only seen unruly people once or twice and they were taken care of very fast. And like other posters have said on Friday and Sat. night they are very busy.

Now for the important part the BEER. No one in the upstate or state for that matter holds a candle to Barleys espcially since the cap was popped. No matter your beer style you'll find something you want and probably several. If it can be had in the state Barleys will have it or be getting it.

The bartenders are very knowledgeable about beer because they are beer lovers also. Most of the wait staff have been there quite awhile so they know thier stuff also. The owner, Josh knows and loves his beer also so that doesn't hurt things at all.

Try this place you'll like it!

I am a frequent vistor to this taproom. As stated by other reviewers there are a huge number of beers to select from from both upstairs and downstairs. The service at this location is excellent to say the least, as most of the servers/bartenders are extremely knowledgable about all things beer. The food is also EXCELLENT! I suggest trying one of their pizzas/calzones. You will not regret it. The beer AND food are why I go at least once every other week if not more. Definitely the best place to grab some food and brew in Greenville by far.

By far, this is the best beer bar in Upstate South Carolina if not the entire state itself. A wide selection coupled with cheap and delicious eats makes for a wonderful experience that doesn't break the bank. The selection is wonderful, but also incorporates a reserve list in case you're looking for something a bit more vintage. Example: '09 KBS.

If you're in Greenville, this is a must do whether you're a craft beer fan or just someone looking for a cheap slice of pizza. Put Barley's on your agenda.

One of the best beer lists I have seen at a restaurant. They won some kind of national award that was presented by Stone. I don't know the details, but it sounds pretty impressive for a restaurant in Greenville, SC. They were named "Most Arrogant Bar" They must be doing something right.
I am assuming this location is a franchise of the Barley's in Asheville, NC. I think Greenville has the better of the two.
While scoping out the joint, I notice some obnoxious amounts of rare beer above the bar. The 20 six-packs of Bell's Batch X,000 , and about 24 bottles of DFH WWS stood out to me.
The server reassured me that they were indeed unopened after I expressed doubt, then she informed me they were not for sale. Apparently the owner is a showboat. I would rather you not display your beer cellar if you do not entertain offers.
I'll be back though, great place.

Stopped at Barley's on a road trip from Atlanta to Charlotte this afternoon. My only disappointment was their website showed they had Mexican Cake on tap and I was really looking forward to trying it for the first time, but the keg had kicked a while back. Aside from that, the experience was great! I had a cajun chicken sandwich that was very tasty. The beer selections was outstanding. I had a couple good selections in bottles and tried a great local coffee/chocolate stout from a local Greenville brewery, Quest, which is only distributing via keg right now. I picked up a 2009 Backwoods Bastard from their reserve/cellar list to enjoy later. I will definitely be stopping by here again the next time I go through town.

Barley's is the place for beer in Greenville. Between upstairs and down, the tap selection is extremely good. The pizza is always excellent as well. Having tried Barley's in Asheville and Greenville on successive weekends, the pizza was quite a bit better in Greenville. The waitstaff in Greenville told us that the water is more consistent there and easier to work with.

Had Terrapin Imperial Rye, Stoudt's ESB, and Rogue Locker Stock Love and Hoppiness IPA - all very good and served in a non-chilled glass. Signs were up for the Weyerbacher release party this week.

Beer-crawling through Greenville with Blue Ridge at one end and Liberty at the other, Barley's is the anchor.

Sothern Tier and Stone now being served!

What can I say about Barley’s but AWESOME! I had the privilege of visiting this establishment just after they lifted the alcohol cap in S.C. (two – three weeks afterward). They were ready for it. They had several high gravity beers on tap – micros, Belgians, and other imports. Tons in bottles as well. The atmosphere was bar like and festive, but just shy of rowdy. The bartenders seemed to know the products fairly well, considering that they are still in the learning phase. I was lucky enough to arrive during a Flying Dog promotion. The crowd was in a good mood.

The pizza is delicious here as well – didn’t try anything else on the menu.

I’ve been to several beer bars across the U.S. and this has to be one of the best I’ve seen.

I think that once this place gets established under the new laws, it will attract people from miles around.

Barley's, what can you say. If you are in G'Vegas you have to stop by. Very cool atmosphere in an old store/warehouse, great exposed brick. Excellent beer selection with different brews on tap both downstairs and up. Beer selection ranges from across the U.S. as well as the world, although I like to focus on the Southern brews. Bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable and offer good recommendations. Upstairs is great at opening time before it gets too busy, darts, pool you name it. One of the many reasons Greenville is great.

It has a great WOW factor for a beer bar. Two leveled bar with a good bar atomphere. Not overly loud and large selection of draft and bottles. They even have a few one off beer every once in a while. While I was there they were the only place in the carolinas to get Gubna at that time. Atleast the first one. Food was fantastic for a limited menu but they do it well. Even I only ate one piece of pizza. They are huge and the toppings are literaly piled up high. We had stuffed mushrooms and they were fantastic as well. Service was great and the bartenders knew what they were talking about. I could tell this was a place were the local BAs hang out which shows alot. Nice Place!

Located in downtown Greenville, 1 block of Main St. Two floors, with restaurant downstairs and pool room upstairs. There are bars on both floors, each with more taps than most bars I've visited in SC. Taps upstairs are different from the ones downstairs. I believe there are over 50 taps, in addition to many many bottles of imports and domestics. They make sure to carry many locals, including RJ Rockers, Thomas Creek, Terrapin and Highland.

The pizza is excellent, with some toppings and stylings you don't find at typical pizza places. It can get pretty busy in the evenings on Friday and Saturday, so consequently, service slows down.

Of the places in the upstate to grab a good beer, Barley's is definately at the top of my list.

**EDIT: Barley's has done a simply AMAZING job at keeping up with the influx of new beers into SC. Nearly always the first to get new stuff. They also host release parties for each brewery that begins distribution in the state.***

Great place to go check out if ever in upstate SC. I have been here several times now visiting family, and the selection of beer is exceptional. Custom ordered beer flights are only 12, and this consists of a 66 beer tap selection. Service is great, always an event going on. I;ve met the Delerium brewmaster here, and there was a cool pre-Beer wars movie party.Bartenders are extremely helpful, and knowledgeable. I actually got the last glass of Kentucky Breakfast Stout on tap here avaliable!
Pizza is excellent, well made crust(an essential critique) fresh toppings, good sandwiches as well. Price is another standout feature as well, as I have just moved down to SC briefly after living in NY and to see a goblet of Triple Karm for $6.00 is astounding, many pints are only $4.
At times this place can be a bit crowded, too many young kids,(but after enough great beer it's manageable).
Take time to check out the upstairs bar as well

Located in downtown Greenville, SC, this is definitely the place for the beer enthusiast.

Comfortable seating, wood interior and tons of beer-related items hanging from the walls. The place was busy but not too busy for our server to check on us on a regular basis.

The beer selection was awesome. I can only comment on the 30+ available taps in the dining area but there were more than enough to choose from. My only regret was not being able to try more. Also had a number of bottled beers to choose from including a reserve list. (older and barrel aged beers).

The food wasn't that special (Barley's All American Pizza) but I didn't go there for the food. I went for the beer, and they definitely delivered.

Really like this place. Lived in Greenville a while before I appreciated good beer. It took coming back to visit on a regular basis for me to realize what I'd been missing. Taps are always primo and at the right temperature for each beer served. Bottle selection is great and includes several vintages for a variety of bottles. Bartenders are knowledgable and quick with a recommendation. Food is decent with great vegetarian and vegan options. Wait staff is efficient and friendly. They also offer a good number of classes or visiting brewer events. Sister restasurant Trappe Door is just a few steps away.

what an unassuming yet absolutely amazing beer destination. the food menu was small but the pizza with jamacain jerk chicken and pineapple was excellent! The bartenders were pleasant and the right level of attentive. The beer selection.... It seemed like a wall of beer taps 40 feet long with 2 coolers of bottled high end singles and the second floor had a separate line of oak aged taps. and they have plans to expand?

From my NH perspective, prices were very reasonable and the beer was spot on tasty. It would take me a few months to get through their lineup after work and that doesn't count the rotating taps. Definitely worth a visit if you're anywhere near the area.

Barleys doesn't brew their own, but they have one of the best beer selections you'll find. At last count they offered over 120 different brews and advertise that they have over 60 taps. With a wide variety of local beers, microbrews from around the country, and favorites from around the world there's plenty to choose from. The menu features a detailed description of the individual beers on tap to make the choice a little easier.
They also have some of the best pizza you'll ever eat, with almost as many toppings as they have taps. The atmosphere is laid back, catering to the "granola" crowd, but you see all ages and demographics represented.
An outside dining area was recently added, although it can get a bit noisy as it's right on the street.
All in all Barleys is a cant miss if you happen to be in Greenville.
