Deep ruddy brown look to it, ruby caramel highlights come thru when held toward the light but the Dude's Brewing is making a pretty dark Grandma's Pecan English style brown ale. Big billowing cloudy textured head forms nice chunky sporadically layered lacing. Aroma roasted malts, nice earthy pecans, hint of dark fruit and alcohol weighing in at 6.9% abv a bit more booze than your average brown ale. Flavor has roasted malt slightly bitter acrid notes, earthy nut filled pecan notes very dry and not sweet like I was expecting by the flavor. Roasted malt a bit muddled, pecans aren't as expressive as I was hoping overall it's a brown ale. Mouthfeel is medium to full, pretty sturdy carbonation a bit of alcohol on the backend of the flavor but nothing over the top in the booze department. Overall, I'm excited to try this stuff...a great beer and cigar guy David Ford aka deford sent these out my way for me to try, much obliged I'm hoping he likes the return fire.

Poured into a wine/snifter/tulip
A - Very sleek deep brown/mahogany. 1 1/2 - 2 finger very tan head and some sugar legs
S - Man, you can smell the pecans. Not as sweet as a pie by any means but very lovely and a bit toasted. Brown sugar, very malty and grainy. A slight coffee note, very earthy, some wood and wet wood, a slight hop note and all around robust
T - Sugar, malt and pecan (with a bit of roastiness) straight off the bat. Some nice earthy hop notes, molasses? A bit of coffee, more pecans, bready yeast, lots of oily soil notes, some sap and a medicinal type note, probably comes from the hops.
M - Medium minus body, well balanced, nice complexity, medium acidity and a great sugary pecan from start to finish
D/O - Very easy to drink, refreshing and still gets you where you are going. This is something you can drink all day everyday at any time of year. For summer this is a great BBQ beer and grilling I suppose. Autumn more of the same and throw in some thanksgiving dinner. Winter, perfect desert and/or by the fire ale and for spring a nice Waldorf salad or a perfectly cooked steak. Definitely one of my favorite brown ale styles.
Final thoughts - 16oz and 4 cans per at $8 isn't bad and when you add in a 6.9 % abv and some nice refreshment. This one goes a long way. Straight from the can or in your favorite glass!
