Deep ruddy brown look to it, ruby caramel highlights come thru when held toward the light but the Dude's Brewing is making a pretty dark Grandma's Pecan English style brown ale. Big billowing cloudy textured head forms nice chunky sporadically layered lacing. Aroma roasted malts, nice earthy pecans, hint of dark fruit and alcohol weighing in at 6.9% abv a bit more booze than your average brown ale. Flavor has roasted malt slightly bitter acrid notes, earthy nut filled pecan notes very dry and not sweet like I was expecting by the flavor. Roasted malt a bit muddled, pecans aren't as expressive as I was hoping overall it's a brown ale. Mouthfeel is medium to full, pretty sturdy carbonation a bit of alcohol on the backend of the flavor but nothing over the top in the booze department. Overall, I'm excited to try this stuff...a great beer and cigar guy David Ford aka deford sent these out my way for me to try, much obliged I'm hoping he likes the return fire.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a dark mahogany brown with a fine two finger light tan head with great retention and pillowy lacing. Aroma of lightly toasted biscuit and caramel malt, nuts with a hint of grassy hops. Flavor is light toasted malt, nuts and grassy hops, finishing with light herbal grassy hop bitterness. Nutty, but not particularly pecan flavored. Medium bodied. A mild, well balanced brown ale with a bit of a hop bite in the finish. Although the flavor appears subtle, the ABV is well covered. A nicely made brown ale that with neither any notable flaws nor much intensity. My grandma would have liked this, I think, and I had no problem appreciating it either. The "Better than a $1 check on your birthday" quote on the can is pretty good. Can't argue.

On-tap at Boneyard Bistro, Sherman Oaks, CA

A: The beer is clear very dark reddish brown in color. It poured with a half finger high light tan head that died down and left a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of nutty malts are present in the nose—pecans stand out in particular.
T: Much like the smell, the taste has lots of flavors of pecans and nutty malts. Neither sweetness nor bitterness are perceptible.
M: It feels a bit shy of being medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This is a nice beer if you like nuts as they completely dominate the smell and taste.

A: Pours from a 16 ounce can brown with a one-inch thick tan head which leaves rings and spots of lace.

N: Roasty, earthy, malty/bready, slight nutty.

T: Slightly roasted nutty pecans with a slight herbal/vegetal note.

M: Semi-moderate body and medium carbonation. Somewhat thin with a slightly bitter finish.

O: Had higher expectations for this.

Clear brown colored beer with a small tan colored head.

Smells sweet with a strong patent malt aroma. I can smell the pecan but it isn't much. Little bit of caramel and a slight berry aroma.

Starts out slightly sweet and well burnt malt. Can't taste the pecan. Low bitterness this is much like a milk stout.

Mouthfeel is OK, seems a little thin.

Overall it is smooth but not a super flavorful beer.
