No canning date. Get with the program Bent Paddle.

Appearance: Light straw body with a short cap of white foam. Nearly clear but with a slight haze.

Aroma: Super clean but not dry. Hint of wheat. One of the cleanest pilseners I've come across.

Taste: It's been a while since I've had a well crafted pilsener. Venture Pils walks that fine line between noticeable yeast esters and off-flavor. The malt bill is nearly undetectable except for some cracker flavor, which pairs well with the mild spicy bitterness from the hops. Classic pilsener yeast brings everything together providing a clean taste signature of the style. Crisp yet wet finish. Aftertaste of dry cracker malt flavor and very light bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Medium in body, which is a bit heavy for the style, with the exact right amount of carbonation. Obviously session territory.

Final Thoughts: I've enjoyed getting to know Bent Paddle's offerings since they began distributing to the cities. I'm beginning to sincerely envy the citizens of Duluth who can get these offerings straight from the source. Who knew an american pilsener could be this good. Would I drink it again? Oh yes, I'm thinking this is the beer of summer '15.

Serving glass: Poured from can into Pilsner glass.

Appearance: Clear gold with good sized, stark white head that leaves nice lacing rings.

Smell: Dried out apple, pepper, straw, hay, and a titch of citrus.

Taste: Light malt backbone of dry apple, straw and fresh cut grass. Nice peppery finish with some floral and citrus notes. Fairly hoppy and bitter like a good Northern German Pilsner.

Feel: Light body with moderately high carbonation. Crisp, dry and very clean finish. Perfect for the style.

Overall: This is a textbook example of a German Pilsner and it is executed perfectly. Nothing unexpected here, but if I want a local Pilsner, this would be my first choice.

I had this on tap.
The nose has light grains, a hint of apple and some canned corn which might suggest sanitation issues with the beer lines.
The beer pours brilliant straw with a 1/2" white foam cap.
The palate is crisp and dry but has a little more apple and canned corn than is necessary. Good hop accent on the finish with a nice balance between the hop and malt.
Light, crisp, and effervescent.

Poured from a 12 oz. can into a tall pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a bright and clear straw golden orange with a lot of bubbles. Huge five finger white head with good retention. Leaves a lot of clingy lacing around the glass.

Smell: A bready and earthy malt driven aroma with good hints of sweet biscuit balanced by earthy hops. Pale pils malt with hints of straw, biscuit, grains, hay, wheat, crackers, and yeast. Solid hop balance with floral, earthy, and citrus hints. Noble hop hints along with some grass. Citrus fruit hints of lemon zest and orange. A very solid balanced pilsener aroma.

Taste: Like the aroma hints, a nicely bready and zesty pils malt taste with a solid presence of floral hops and citrus. Bready and fairly sweet pilsener malt with notes of biscuit, grains, straw, hay, wheat, crackers, and yeast. Good balancing hop presence with floral notes and earthy notes of grass. Citrus hop notes of orange and lemon zest. Pretty solid noble hop presence. Good taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a medium to high amount of carbonation. Very crisp, clean, and smooth.

Overall: A pretty solid take on a Euro Pilsener. Hoppier than typical for the style but it works well.

It's a clean doughy lager with an earthy grassy hop character and touch of toast. Grapefruit hops build in the finish for a beer that's refreshing and satisfying.

Poured from 12 oz can into shaker pint glass.
A: Pours a clear light golden yellow with 2 inch bubbly white head with good retention.
S: Crisp cracker malt, soft and light citrus, and a hint of white pepper.
T: Nice crisp cracker malt (a bit more body here than aroma was suggesting), very light citrus, white pepper, and a hint of earthy funk.
M: Light body. Crisp and refreshing. Mild funk bite.
D: A very nice example of style. Definitely would go well after a long day of paddling!
