Pitch black pour from 12 oz can into snifter. Big, creamy, frothy ,khaki brown head.

Aroma is not real intense, but is predominantly coffee. Also sweet chocolate candy and some roasted malt in the background.

The flavors are much more significant than it smelled. Still not intense. The coffe is definitely at the forefront, but is more of a creamer type. It blends very well wih the roasted barley and not as sweet as I expected chocolate flavors. Not much bitterness in this one. Aftertaste is much more sweet than bitter. No noticeable alcohol.

Body is not quite as creamy as the poor led me to believe. A nice solid medium body though. Seems to have a "cotton mouth" dryness to it though.

Overall, this doesn't say black ale to me. No real noticeable hops. I think this is wonderfully balanced for a coffee stout. Even though the beans are on full display, I would recommend this to another fellow non-coffee drinker. It is an excellent, easy drinking beer with ample amounts of quality flavors that I would love to have again. (1,039 characters)

Serving glass: Poured from can into Nonic Pint.

Appearance: Black with good sized tan head and nice lacing rings.

Smell: Mostly cold press espresso but also with dark chocolate, molasses and smoke.

Taste: Similar to the aroma, with loads of espresso and dark chocolate. Some bite at the end from the roasted malts and coffee.

Feel: Smooth and creamy with moderately low carbonation. The body is lighter than expected. Dry finish.

Overall: The easiest drinking Coffee Stout I have had, and it is also flat out delicious. (525 characters)

Poured from a 12 oz. can into a tall pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a dark brownish black with a moderate amount of bubbles. Solid two finger tan head that settles into a thin creamy layer.

Smell: A very roasty coffee and dark malt forward aroma with good hints of coffee beans, chocolate, and earthy hops. Big upfront scent of cold press coffee along with good hints of dark chocolate, toast, biscuit, oats, caramel, nuts, and yeast. Light hints of sugar and cream. Also some hints of earthy and spicy hops in the background. A very solid aroma.

Taste: Like the nose hints, a nicely roasty coffee dark malt forward taste with big notes of coffee and chocolate along with some earthy hops. Big taste of cold press coffee beans upfront. Dark roasted malt with notes of dark chocolate, toasted bread, biscuit, caramel, nuts, oats, and yeast. Nice notes of cream and light sugar. Background notes of earthy hops with some pine. A very good taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate level of carbonation. Creamy, silky, and pretty smooth with a drying finish.

Overall: A very good coffee ale. Big taste of fresh coffee with some good dark malt and subtle hop notes. (1,176 characters)

Mainly coffee the nose but high quality and quite appealing. Fortunately it is very fine coffee as the flavor confirms.
Very smooth. Mild bitterness. (188 characters)

12 ounce can poured into a snifter.

Pours like coffee. Forms a chewy, khaki-colored head a finger and a half thick and it persists for ages. Lace remains as it recedes in walls and streaks. Pitch black body suggests coffee and has me concerned I made a bad decision cracking this at 9PM on a work night.

Quite a nose here. There's coffee but it's not that stiff black coffee or coffee beans or anything like many other coffee beers I've grown accustomed too. I'm getting raisin and tobacco and fruitiness here. It kind of smells like an unlit cigarette. Faint roasted malt and roasted coffee are behind this menagerie. It's interesting and intriguing. 3.75

I taste something maybe a little soapy and off, but I also taste some rich coffee. This coffee in here seems legit to my amateur tastes. Very fruit and berry-like while still chocolatey and a tad caramel-like. Maybe that's the beer offering those flavors but it seems like the coffee. The front end seems a tad dominated by either yeast or hops that are imparting some odd vegetal and floral flavors, but once past that, this beer tastes pretty phenomenal. From mid-palate onwards, it's a lovely damn beer. 3.5

Some people hate on these lighter-bodied coffee beers but I love them. This think drinks more like a coffee from a tap than a beer, but I get down. It's still rich and flavorful and has a creamy mouthfeel. 4

A few oddities drag this beer down and I'm curious if it's the batch I had or some other factor because this beer feels like it has everything to be awesome. I enjoyed. (1,553 characters)

Pours a dark black, topped by a sizable dark beige head. Fantastic retention, slowly sliding down the glass, leaving thick chunks of lacing behind.

Tart dark fruit and lightly roasted barley come through on the nose first. Slightly sharp. Coffee starts to come through on deep breaths as the head continues its slow descent.

Flavor is a huge blast of coffee, supplemented by semi-sweet chocolate and a very subtle roasted barley. Touch of cream and tartness up front and on the backend. Hops are earthy and slightly herbal.

Smooth, cloying feel with a large dose of bitterness; drying, nearly effervescent feel to the aftertaste.

This is an excellent, well-balanced, and very smooth coffee stout/black ale. Nothing big or amazing, but extremely smooth and unbelievably drinkable; this beer keeps disappearing from my glass every time I look! (845 characters)

Thanks to Jeff for this one. 12oz can into a Founders snifter.

Pours a rich, .5 finger mocha colored head with good retention. Beer is pitch black. Lacing is stringy with good stick. Solid.

Nose is mocha, chocolate, cocoa and roasted malt. Delicious. This is what I want my coffee to smell like. Aromatic, deep and very robust.

Opens coffee, mocha, chocolate, liquorice and cocoa. Some roastiness in the middle but for the most part, the same flavor profile throughout. Great balance of coffee bean bitterness and a bit of chocolatey sweentness. Finishes a touch grainy with big coffee bean notes. Holy moly, this is fantastic!

Light bodied with moderate carbonation. Slightly prickly in the mouth and dry and a bit resiny going down. Messy finish with a lingering aftertaste. Super drinkable.

If you like iced coffee and coffee beers... and I don't mind beers brewed with coffee, I mean beers that taste like straight up morning Joe, then this is a can't miss. Really outstanding! (990 characters)
