An unexpected visual bend to an American India Pale Ale, this style is one that stands out in a crowd, or if you’re more like us - enjoyed at a campsite...with no crowd. This non-traditional IPA is golden in color with an enormous floral/citrus hop aroma and a supporting malt profile.

It looks fabulous and leaves a nice lacing on the glass. It's a very grassy IPA both in nose and taste. It leaves a little bitterness in the aftertaste.

Golden, decent head

Toasty malts, pine

Pine, slight citrus, balanced by cracker

well carbonated

Straightforward balanced beer that doesn't try to do too much. Almost a pale ale, but that's a compliment.

Wow. This one is really solid. Pretty complex ipa. Do I taste mosaic hops? Bold flavors without trying to do too much.

12oz can. Date stamping is on bottom lip and looks to be '171-21'.
Pale gold colored body, which is mostly cloudy. One finger of white head, which reduces to bubbly cap. Displays a wide palate of lacing on the glass.
Aroma of toasted malts and floral hops.
Taste has a base of honeyed malt, and the hops express slightly bitter, with flavors of citrus and pine. Rather quick to end in the aftertaste.
Medium mouth feel. Dry. Very good carbonation.
Solid and straightforward IPA, with a balanced approach to malts and hops. Not much in the aftertaste but the main experience is recognizable IPA goodness. At 6.2%ABV, this lends itself to a couple but not sessionable.

Poured from a can into a tulip.

Medium gold color. Slightly chill hazed plus a little bit of natural haze as well. A nice bone-white fluffy head. Retention is good. Very attractive brew.

Simple clean aromas. Pale malt, mild citrus notes, and a bit of grass and spruce.

The flavor is also very clean and straightforward. Very restrained tropical fruits meet zesty citrus. A bit of cracker malt in midstream. The finish is resin and faint alcohol. Everything is very balanced but also pretty restrained.

The brew isn't crisp, but it is drying at the finish. That coupled with excellent carbonation makes for a brew that feels a notch lighter than it probably is.

Bent Paddle delivers another solid brew. I've not had a disappointment from them.

10/4/20...pours copper, medium dark, slight ring of white. Foams. Mildy malty nose. Slightly sweet. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Quite smooth. Hidden bitter pokes out from hiding at the end. Quite tasty.

12oz can with a code

Sudsy head, amber-orange color. Smells soooo good, aromatic hop funk dialed up to 11. Drinks almost like a double IPA it's so hoppped: very bitter, like chewing down pine bark

Heavily hopped IPA that delivers. Less like fruit juice, more like hop juice

Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a dark golden/orange color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is dominated by oranges. Taste is orange peels, pine, hints of grapefruit, mild bitterness. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a very easy drinking IPA that I could easily crush many of on this hot summer night.

I got a can of this beer off the single shelf from a beer store in La Crosse, Wisconsin. It poured a hazy orangish with white head that is not leaving much lace. The scent had ripe citrus fruit notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with dank fruit presence. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall its a good beer.

Looks just like a shot of whiskey when in a taster glass.

No head, piney/citrusy aroma, taste is a pine dominated flavor with some mild passion fruit coming out. However it has a weird taste, like dirty socks. Anyway not too bad.

Appearance: Pours a beautiful deep golden color with a very strong white head. Moderate opacity. SRM of 12 (4.00)

Aroma: Strong aromas of yellow lemon and orange citrus with some mango underneath. Bitter pine, citrus. and strong pineapple. Yellow Starburst. So much bright orange there's Sunny D with mango on the aroma. Some lemon, Sunny D orange, nectarine, pineapple, and airy herbs. Maybe some mango and peach. A airy piney undertone. Like an orange-spiced candle or Sunny D with some herbs. (3.75)

Flavor: Flavor follows the nose. Lots of yellow & grapefruit citrus. Bitter pine flavors. Some grapefruit and orange citrus. A good herbal garlic and onion twist to it as well. Malty, but not much malt flavor so with only hops it finishes bitter. Bitter, but without the malt flavor it allows it to finish hoppy. This is what I would describe as the "old school" pale ale combo. West coast in terms of bitterness, but has a characteristic Sunny D sunburst flavor/aroma with a moderate amount of onion presence. Again Sunny D with a bit of herbs. (3.50)

Feel: Good carbonation. Light to medium bodied. No sweetness. (4.00)

Compared with Lagunitas IPA: Quite similar actually. More airy herbs and less sweetness. More citrus and dry, bitterness.

Compared w/ Surly's Yummi Bear: Pours a slightly darker orange color. More sweet orange fruit and herbs on the aroma and flavor. Less airy citrus and pine. Heavier, sweeter, and more herbal.

Compared with Stone: Similar in appearance. Aroma is similar in pine, but more sunburst and less dry stonefruit. Flavor too. Less orange sunburst. More dry stonefruit. Similar malt body. Less bitter. Similar hop profile. Overall, very similar.

Compared with Odell's Mountain Standard IPA 3/6/20: Pours a darker orange color. More sweet yellow/lemon flavors. Less pineapple and flower. Heavier, sweeter, and more bitter overall.

Compared to Farm Island Brewings Organic IPA 4/8/20: Pours a darker orange and clearer color. Stronger aromas. More sweet orange/lemon and herbs. Less grapefruit. Stronger flavors and more sweet, bitter, and big. A much better IPA here.

Compared to Founders' Unraveled Juicy IPA 5/2/20: Pours a darker color. Milder aromas. More citrus pine, herbs and flower. Less tropical fruit. Heavier-bodied, sweeter, with similar but probably stronger bitterness but less fruit flavor. This one is more west-coast.

Compared to Badger Hill Traitor IPA 7/5/20: Pours a similar color. Stronger citrus, fruit, mango on the flavor. Heavier and juicier. Less crisp grapefruit. Winner: Traitor IPA

Compared to Odell 8/8/20: Pours a similar appearance. More aromas of juicy tropical fruit with herbs. Less balance of tropical fruit and pine. On the flavor, more berry and grapefruit with herbs. Less bitter citrus and pine. Decently similar actually. Winner: Odell due to the balance.

Compared to Summit Saga IPA 9/17/20: Pours a slightly darker color. Stronger aromas/flavors. More citrus, mango, and herbs. Also more pine and sweetness.

to Breckenridge Juice Drop IPA 9/22/21: Pours a darker and clearer color. More grapefruit and pine. Less juicy orange/lemon citrus. Much more West-coast.

to Summit Twenty One IPA 4/25/22 (mismatched): Pours slightly darker. More dank and resinous stonefruit, berry, pine resin. Less citrus and pine. More herbal and dank.

Overall: This one has a nice citrus and dank pine notes. A resinous and slightly sweet caramel malt body. It takes me back of how I used to interpret and think of hoppy beers before I knew craft beer. Citrus. Bitter and dank pine. Resin. This one is actually really good and worth trying. (Final Rating: 3.69)
