Appearance: Hazy gold (really!), good head.

Smell: Bright citrus aroma.

Taste: Nice bitter citrus mixed with some pink grapefruit sweetness. Lighter feel.

Overall: After visiting the brewery a few weeks back I finally saw some cans in the Twin Cities from Bent Paddle. The golden IPA is very good, very aromatic and light feel, but definitely more body than the session IPA crowd.

No canning date.

Appearance: Semi-transparent matte caramel color with about a finger of off-white foam.

Aroma: As soon as I popped the top on the can dank hops wafted into my senses. Also some caramel malt in there.

Taste: This immediately has a lot going for it. Sugar-crusted malt, earthy/hearty hop character with a soothing bitterness and a great balance. I'm actually surprised to see its only 6.2% ABV given the depth of flavor here. It's very much in the vain of a Celebration or 60 Minute, with that chewy malt character and hearty hop flavor. The bitterness starts quite tame but builds up and reaches a high point in the aftertaste. The breweries website lists the IBUs at 68 but the malt makes it feel a bit less harsh.

Mouthfeel: A solid medium in body with basically perfect carbonation for the style, smooth but not tepid. Great drinkability and likely sessionable if you go slow.

Final Thoughts: Really enjoyed this one. I will definitely be checking out more of Bent Paddle's offerings. However, I would urge the brewery to add a canning date because the absence of one typically deters me from doling out the cash for a sixer of any hop-forward beer (this one was park of a make your own six-pack). Would I drink it again? Yes, hopefully on-tap next.

In a can (but not camping)
A: Vigorous pour leaves me with a finger of head, and a bright golden glow
S: Nice nose, bit of light citrus and hoppy.
T: Different than many other IPAs around. Little pine, light tangerine, floral and bright. Some background balance provided by the crystal malt. Not a lot of hoppy bitterness.
M: just right on carbonation, wet, smooth, lively but no bite.
Overall, this is a nice addition to the MN scene. Not going to become a favorite, but a nice change of pace. I won't hesitate to drink it again..

Pours a dark gold to amber color with an almost 2 finger foamy white head with nice retention and lacing. The aroma has grapefruit, pineapple, pine, and tangerine.

The taste has a nice combination of sweetness and bitterness with grapefruit, citrus zest, pineapple, pine, tangerine, and pale malt.

Medium bodied with below average carbonation. There is a grapefruit and pale malt aftertaste. A nicely made IPA which I will gladly buy again.
